It was nearly two years ago when the last episode of BBC America’s Broadchurch aired in February 2015. While we don’t know exactly when the acclaimed series will return, we do know that it’s coming next year. That’s because the British crime drama has released a slight 10-second teaser today promising its 2017 season 3 debut.
Starring former Doctor Who David Tennant and Olivia Colman (Peep Show) as Detectives Alec Hardy and Ellie Miller, respectively, the teaser doesn’t reveal much in terms of what fans should expect from this new season. For those who’ve waited 22 months to hear any news whatsoever, though, it is welcomed. Among the most intriguing things found in this teaser is a hot second reveal of Reverend Paul Coates, played by Arthur Darvill (Legends of Tomorrow).

Last year gave us Jacques Rivette’s Out 1, and this year has given us Krzysztof Kieślowski’s Dekalog—two works that until their recent releases, Out 1 by Arrow and Dekalog by The Criterion Collection, have been extremely difficult to see on account of their length, which suited them to European television rather than theatrical distribution. It’s fitting that each film’s re-release comes in an era in which on-demand or day-and-date video releases are common distribution models, streaming services rather than cinemas are seen as the primary viewing platforms for so many, and the television season—many of which arrive all at once—and not film is the dominant moving image medium. If all this is true, is there anything challenging or even unusual about a 10 or 12 hour moving image work designed for us to watch all at once from the comfort of our homes, preferably in a small number of binges?...

“Some Short Films About Commandments”

Much has been written and said about director Krzysztof Kieślowski’s ten-hour mini-series originally broadcast on Polish television in 1988. The late Stanley Kubrick, who rarely commented on other filmmakers’ works, wrote in a foreword to the published screenplays of Dekalog that Kieślowski and his co-writer Krzysztof Piesiewicz had dramatized their ideas with “dazzling skill.” Many critics have called Dekalog one of the greatest television mini-series ever made.
Although Dekalog has been previously released on home video, The Criterion Collection has seen fit to present on DVD and Blu-ray a new, restored 4K digital transfer that has also been recently playing in select art house cinemas around the U.S. Even though all but two episodes are in an analog television aspect ratio (4:3), there is no question that this is cinematic material. Criterion’s been on a bit of a Krzysztof Kieślowski tear as of late, having just given his towering Dekalog a Blu-ray release. One doesn’t need much of an excuse to pay the Polish great some attention, however, so take the following post as an all-purpose sharing of material — after all, you can’t go wrong with some Zbigniew Preisner, whose gentle, flowing musical compositions were the perfect complement to Kieślowski’s gentle, flowing tales of moral quandary and self-discovery. Want to soundtrack your own moral quandaries and self-discoveries? Your ultimate Spotify playlist is here!
Shared below is a 27-track Preisner collection, as well as a video of Kieślowski on the Dekalog set. It’s brief, sure, but a rather direct discussion of his strange project’s plurality of tones, as well as the question of it being or not being a television production. (What a debate that would’ve sparked if made today!

Polish director Krzysztof Kieślowski received international acclaim for his filmic masterworks, such as “The Double Life of Veronique,” about a choir soprano and a French music teacher (both played by Irène Jacob) who share a mysterious and emotional bond, and “The Three Colors Trilogy,” three films loosely based on one of the political ideals in the motto of the French Republic: liberty, equality, fraternity.

It was worth the wait, wasn't it? After nearly two years of speculation, a month of mysterious adverts on loop on ITV and CIA-esque level of secrecy surrounding the plot, Broadchurch series 2 finally arrived last night.
As writer Chris Chibnall promised, this wasn't simply another murder mystery whodunnit in the same town. In fact, it's quite the contrary - it's a can-you-prove-he-did-it.
Oh and that little case in Sandbrook that tormented Di Alec Hardy in series one. Yes, that reared up again.
At the end of the opening hour, we were left with questions piled on top of questions, and with a week to wait before we get episode two, here are the 20 most burning matters that we'll be mulling over until next Monday.
1. Why did Joe plead 'not guilty'?
"The evidence against you is clear."
"Not just me. Everyone... Nobody's innocent, Paul. Everyone's hiding things."
The exchanges between Joe Miller and Rev.

Arthur Darvill has said that none of the Broadchurch cast have been allowed to watch the upcoming second series ahead of broadcast.
The actor, who reprises his role as Reverend Paul Coates in the crime drama, revealed on Good Morning Britain that secrecy surrounding the series is so important that the actors have not been able to see the new episodes in full.
"I haven't seen it. None of us have seen it. We're not allowed to see any of it," he said. "I've seen little bits of it for doing Adr, but not a whole episode. From the little tiny nuggets I've seen it looks amazing.
"There's so many of us in it that we all concentrate on our own little bits, so I can't wait to see everyone else in it."

1. When is it back?
Detectives Alec Hardy (David Tennant) and Ellie Miller (Olivia Colman) will return to ITV in January 2015.
We don't know the exact date, but if we were taking a punt it would be in the second week of the year. And ITV would have to be daft not to put it on Monday nights again - it was the perfect start to the week.
2. Who is returning?
Despite Hardy's funny turns and dicky heart, David Tennant is definitely back. Despite finding out that her husband was a child murderer, Olivia Colman's slug-stomper Miller will also return.
Perhaps more surprisingly, Jodie Whittaker and Andrew Buchan are also involved in series 2. The duo played Beth and Mark Latimer, the parents of victim Danny in series one and their reappearance suggests that the second series may in some way be connected to the first - rather than a second,...

Seven episodes into Gracepoint, series creator Chris Chibnall has started the show’s detour from its British precursor, Broadchurch. This hour marked a major test for the show. Usually, any time an adaptation veers away from its source material, there is a backlash among the purists. So, this episode does not just have to build on the tension and character development of the previous installments, but has to stand on its own as it leaves the restraints of the original creation.
The good news is that “Episode Seven” succeeded, continuing on many of the slow burn elements of the series while also embarking on a few startling story developments. Ellie and Carver had been a quiet storm for the last couple of weeks, avoiding a lot of screen time so that Gracepoint could get through the gripping drama with Jack Reinhold. However, both have to deal with surprises sprung upon them by their children.

"The Weird One"
Sousaphone & Bass
Although considered the quietest member of the band, Paul is far from boring. “He’s just really strange, that’s the only way to describe him,” says Jake. Always rocking a different hair color, Paul is known as the guy who will take any dare head on. A jack-of-all-trades, he has worked over 20 side jobs in the past eight years alone. His passions include blacksmithing and he interests himself with random topics like the ever-changing price of jet fuel. As one of the original Chardon Polka Band founders, Paul has been with the band for 10 years. He’s dating Pops’ daughter Patty, who is 20 years his senior, and they recently had a child together.

Arthur Darvill has confirmed that he will appear in series two of Broadchurch.
The former Doctor Who star said in an interview with BBC America that he is "meant to" be reprising his role of the Reverend Paul Coates.
"I'm meant to be doing the next series," he said. "But I actually don't know... whether that's an episode or a whole series.
"I'm in touch with the production company and my agent, [but] it's quite nice not knowing because I really can't give anything away. I'd quite like to find out soon so I can plan my life!"
Speaking to Digital Spy in May, Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall refused to confirm which members of Broadchurch's cast - which included Olivia Colman and David Tennant - would be back for series two.
"I would take nothing for granted, I would just wait and see!" said the writer.

'Broadchurch' star Matthew Gravelle was shocked to find out his character was Danny Latimer's killer. The 36-year-old actor - who plays Joe Miller in the ITV detective drama, which concluded on Monday night (22.04.13) when he confessed to the murder of 11-year-old Danny - had his money on either mysterious recluse Susan Wright (Pauline Quirke) or Reverend Paul Coates (Arthur Darvill) being the culprit. Writer Chris Chibnall phoned Matthew to tell him his alter-ego - the husband of DS Ellie Miller (Olivia Colman) - was the schoolboy's killer, but up until then the former 'Torchwood' star admitted not knowing who...

With just one episode left until Broadchurch draws to a close, we're mere days away from finally finding out who killed young Danny Latimer - and this is your final chance to finger the chief suspect and spout your theories.
Our poll lists ten of the most likely suspects - vote below or if you've got your eye on an outsider, name Danny's murderer in the comments below.
Is creepy Nige (Joe Sims) - shopped to the cops by his own mother in the last episode - your bet? Or are you plumping for the bookies' favourite, Ellie Miller's husband Joe (Matthew Gravelle)?
Ellie's son Tom Miller (Adam Wilson) also seemed to have it out for Danny, but surely he's not the killer? Perhaps the boy's mentor - the Reverend Paul Coates (Arthur Darvill) - isn't as mild-mannered as he seems...

With the investigation into Danny Latimer's death rumbling on, Hardy and Miller's troubled investigation caught a few breaks this week on Broadchurch - with two suspects looming particularly large - but Alec's deteriorating health may have also seen the killer slip through the police's collective fingers...
Digital Spy has picked apart episode six to see if there were any hidden clues.
Clues and Suspects
Jack Marshall's death has seen Hardy (David Tennant) labelled the Worst Cop in Britain - it's not an entirely undeserved moniker given that he's yet to press Mark Latimer (Andrew Buchan) on the gaps in his alibi or noted young Tom Miller's (Adam Wilson) shifty behaviour...
With little progress made in catching Danny's killer, the coppers are threatened with cutbacks and their one remaining lead seems to be a burnt-out boat found floating in the ocean - one of many clues pointing to a new chief suspect.

Last night's (April 1) Broadchurch was heartbreaking viewing and the strongest episode since the series opener. A key suspect ended up dead, probably from suicide, the Latimers confronted their crumbling marriage head-on and the local community turned into a raging mob as Danny's murderer remains undiscovered.
Digital Spy has picked apart episode five to see if there were any hidden clues.
Clues and Suspects
I'm going to stick my neck out and say that Jack Marshall didn't kill Danny Latimer. Oh dear, it's too late.
Has Jack Marshall been murdered? Did he kill himself? Did he ever get it on with Danny Latimer's gran? Three burning questions we'll have to wait a week to find out, but it's safe to say now that he wasn't Danny's murderer.
His private life has been raked through by the press and he made a perfect bogeyman in a murder inquiry that isn't going anywhere fast,...

Pauline Quirke hiding in dark corners. Arthur Darvill snooping in the night. David Bradley burning incriminating photos. Episode four of ITV's Broadchurch was the most revealing and darkest so far, gently tugging us further into the lies and secrets of the seaside town.
If you're confused and pulling your hair out over the ever-increasing list of suspects and whopping great pile of red herrings, here's our quick guide to the latest developments into the case of Danny Latimer.
Clues and Suspects
If last week's episode was all about Mark Latimer (Andrew Buchan) squirming and coming under the spotlight, this week's episode brought David Bradley's dishevelled corner shop owner Jack Marshall into the frame.
A loner who works with young kids in the sea brigade, a keen amateur photographer who has a prior conviction for sex offences, he's a Daily Mail editor's dream to have lurking around the scenes of a child murder.

A little over six months since we bid farewell to loveable Rory on Doctor Who, actor Arthur Darvill is back on the box with a major role in ITV's hotly anticipated new crime drama Broadchurch. The eight-part thriller is from the pen of Who scribe Chris Chibnall, and also features David Tennant as one of its leads.
Darvill - who plays local vicar Paul Coates - spoke to Digital Spy about his new role, working with fellow Who veteran Tennant and whether Broadchurch is ITV's answer to The Killing...
What can you reveal about your character in Broadchurch?
"He's a vicar - early 30s, looks like me! He's quite young to be in that position, so he's very eager. It's a very small community but he has a loyal congregation, which I think is good for him to be starting out with. It's the first time he's had his own church to run.

Irvin Kershner directed an anti-comics documentary before helming The Empire Strikes Back. Before making it big in Hollywood, Kershner worked at Kttv, an L.A. TV station, as a staff TV director. He was given an assignment with L.A. Times reporter Paul Coates for a 1955 expose of crime and horror comics. According to research of the time done by Senator Estes Kefauver who said they are "very upsetting, it has a bad moral effect and that it is directly responsible for a substantial amount of juvenile delinquency and child crime."
Comic book artist Ellis Eringer makes the claim that the trend toward darker comics "first started as a science fiction kind of a weird thriller," but since there's also a sequence that shows kids reading comics and then rising up to torture one of their friends, we don't feel much like trusting what anyone has to say here. This sin't new news, but it's an update to the news posted last year about New Line going forward with a vacation "update", whatever that means.More from the trades:New Line is booking a reboot of its "Vacation" franchise and has tapped Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley to write the newest incarnation. Property, which started with the 1983 Chevy Chase starrer, spawned three sequels that followed the Griswold family on holiday. The latest project, which will no longer carry the National Lampoon credit, is being described as more of an update than a sequel and will be closer in tone to "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" than the previous chapters. Story will focus on Rusty Griswold, now a grown man, who decides to take his own wife and kids on a road trip to Wally World before it closes forever. Chase is expected to reprise his role as Clark Griswold, now a grandfather.

Dave Franco has joined Fox's new comedy series "Do Not Disturb" as a regular, while Sean Maguire has been tapped as the lead in Comedy Central's new series "Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire."
Additionally, Cierra Ramirez has been added to the cast of NBC's new drama series "My Own Worst Enemy."
On "Disturb," a hotel-based comedy starring Niecy Nash and Jerry O'Connell, Franco, younger brother of James Franco, will play Gus, a roadie for a rock band who gets deserted at the hotel and taken in by the gang.
"Krod," set to premiere in first-quarter 2009, is a character-driven fantasy comedy that centers on reluctant hero Krod Mandoon (McGuire), a sensitive, clueless freedom fighter who becomes the last great hope in a medieval struggle.
Additionally, the British McGuire ("Meet the Spartans") has nabbed a guest starring role in Rob Thomas' pilot for ABC "Cupid," playing an Irish musician. McGuire, who has released three albums in the U.K., is repped by the Kohner Agency and Paul Coates.
"Enemy" centers on Henry (Christian Slater), a mild-mannered suburban dad whose alter ego, Edward, is a suave spy. Ramirez will play Henry's daughter, Ruthy, who likes to spy on people and write about their behavior in her journal.
Ramirez ("The Suite Life of Zack and Cody") is repped by the Corsa Agency and Media Talent.
