Strike could be an opportunity for local talents to be successful worldwide, says Davide Nardini.
Davide Nardini, Amazon’s head of scripted originals in Italy, has addressed the possible impact of the SAG-AFTRA strike on local productions and has underlined that the streamer is looking for more mainstream projects that target broad audiences.
Speaking at the Audiovisual Producers Summit in Trieste, Nardini said that if the strike dragged on, it’s possible that it could inadvertently open up opportunities for local talents.
He underlined that Amazon was not planning for this and neither is it part of its international strategy.

Amazon Prime Video is expanding its big, global spy franchise "Citadel" with the conclusion of the show's first season. Not only is the main series — which hails from "Avengers: Endgame" directors Joe and Anthony Russo — getting a second season, but the first spin-off has officially been revealed in the form of "Citadel: Diana." What's more, the spin-off has already been filmed and is due to arrive next year.
While we won't get into spoilers here, those who watched the "Citadel" season 1 finale on Prime Video were treated to a post-credits teaser that teed up the ball for the new show, offering a look at the next chapter in the company's so-called "Spyverse." A universe that they spent an absolutely absurd amount of money on, it should be noted. Though it's also supposedly quite popular, according to the company's own calculations.

Shot on Super 8 film by filmmaker Laura Colella ("Breakfast With Curtis"), "Chryskyloden Blues" blends behind-the-scenes footage with a voiceover excerpt from the Thomas Pynchon novel upon which the Anderson film is based. According to an article published on The Chicago Reader website, which is how we came across the video (so hats off to them for making such an incredible discovery), Colella was apparently supposed to appear onscreen as an amateur filmmaker shooting on Super 8 during the scene where Joaquin Phoenix's character, Doc, crashes a private party. While Paul Thomas Anderson continues to circle around using 65mm again for his next project, let’s turn our attention back to last year when the acclaimed filmmaker released his hazy and warm adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s “Inherent Vice.” Now, a behind-the-scenes look at the film is making the rounds via Cigarettes & Red Vines, and it provides another peek at Anderson’s swirling and woozy film. Running twelve minutes long, titled “Chryskylodon Blues” after the rehab center seen near the end of the film, and directed by Laura Colella on Super 8 film, the short documentary is a fly-on-the-wall look at what it looks like to work on Anderson’s sets, with music from The Growlers – they played the Boards in the film – scoring the doc, and text from the novel spoken by Theo Green. Writer-director Laura Colella's Breakfast with Curtis is a coming-of-age film that defies the trends and traps that have lately made that genre almost insufferable in American cinema.
The hero, 14-year-old Curtis (Jonah Parker), doesn't spout an endless stream of pop culture references, he's not soaked in irony, and he doesn't stand in smug superiority to his surroundings.
A skinny, bespectacled, preternaturally gifted kid who is homeschooled in response to bullying, Curtis walks with his eyes downcast, and he rarely gives more than a two- or three-word answer to any question. In him, Colella perfectly captures what it is to be the outcast who is exiled both involuntarily and by choice. When he was nine, Curtis threw a rock at a neighbor's cat, causing a rift be...

It would be the film with the juju in David O. Silver Linings Playbook cleaned up, grabbing Best Feature, Director, Screenplay and Best Actress went to Jennifer Lawrence – the heavy favorite for tomorrow’s Oscar. Fox Searchlight might have grabbed only one award for Beasts in the Cinematography category, but it’s other Sundance pick-up The Sessions managed to nab a pair of acting prizes for Helen Hunt and Oscar snubbed John Hawkes for Best Male Lead. Today the 2013 Spirit Awards were handed out and it was a dominating effort from Silver Linings Playbook as it won Best Picture, Director (David O. Russell), Actress (Jennifer Lawrence) and Screenplay (Russell). The only award it was nominated for and didn't win was Best Actor where Bradley Cooper lost to John Hawkes for The Sessions, but that's only a minor blip on the radar when you win this big. Among the early awards handed out, Stephen Chbosky's The Perks of Being a Wallflower won for Best First Feature while Derek Connolly won for Best First Screenplay for the romantic sci-fi film Safety Not Guaranteed. Then the Twitterverse exploded with a Best Supporting Actor win for Matthew McConaughey and his work in Magic Mike, which, for a time, seemed like it may be able to eek into that last Supporting slot at the Oscars. No dice, a Spirit Award it will have to be.

Director: Laura Colella Starring: Theo Green, Jonah Parker, David Parker, Aaron Jungels, Yvonne Parker, Virginia Laffey, Adele Parker, Laura Colella, Gideon Parker Writer-director-actor Laura Colella's Breakfast with Curtis begins as a seemingly grumpy old hippie threatens to crush the skull of a nine year old boy. We then jump forward five years... Now 14 years old, we can only assume that Curtis (Jonah Parker) has stayed far away from his hippie neighbors – or at least their cat – ever since his frightening encounter with Syd (Theo Green), the de facto leader of the Purple Citadel. It is also not surprising that Curtis is still a bit skittish when Syd makes a neighborly attempt to speak with him.

Set in a friendly college-towny neighborhood of Providence, R.I., the entire film takes place at a funky house known as the Purple Citadel. Subdivided into three apartments, the Purple Citadel is...

With a spasm of east coast neurosis, Woody Allen gets the event underway – and it isn't long before things get raucous
Woody Allen waits anxiously to introduce To Rome with Love at the Regal theatre in downtown La; there are echoes of the young, nervous standup who performed against his will at the start of his career. But this is the opening night of the Los Angeles film festival, as well as the movie's North American premiere, so within nanoseconds of Allen striding up to the mic the crowd are on their feet.
"I was blessed with a great cast. A cast I'm counting on to make me look good," he stutters, endearingly, before introducing Penélope Cruz, Alison Pill, Greta Gerwig, Simona Caparrini and Alessandra Mastronardi. "If you like the picture, I'm thrilled. If you hate it and think it was a waste of time coming, don't let me know...

25 New Faces alum Laura Colella’s Breakfast with Curtis unfolds at its own pace, not unlike the leisurely chats it spends so much time documenting. Colella, who wrote, directed, and acted in the film, used her own home as a shooting location and cast her real-life neighbors and housemates in prominent roles. Centered around a bookseller named Syd (Theo Green) who enlists the help of his young neighbor (Jonah Parker, in the title role) to record a series of video diaries for his business, the story hinges on the subtle interplay between family and friends as they cautiously come closer together and resolve a divisive act that occurred five years earlier. The film has its world premiere at the La Film Festival this Sunday.

Laura Colella fell in love with filmmaking while studying at Harvard under Raúl Ruiz. Since then she has directed two other narrative features, "Stay Until Tomorrow" and "Tax Day", as well as many short films. Colella is currently a professor of 16mm Film Production and Directing at the Rhode Island School of Design. Her latest film, "Breakfast With Curtis", is currently screening in the narrative competition at this year's Laff. What it's about: A troubled teen embarks on a creative venture with his neighbor, an eccentric bookseller who has delusions of gradeur fueled by red wine. On working with neighbors and friends: "The most unusual aspect of the film is that the main actors are the five residents of the 3-family house I live in, and the family of four who live next door. All but one had never acted before, and they’re amazing and fun to watch. Early...

Neighbors, man, amirite? Can’t live near ‘em, can’t just crush their skulls. In Laura Colella‘s lo-fi charmer, Breakfast With Curtis, young Curtis finds some unexpected friends in his hippie neighbors over the course of one summer. Of course, the exclusive clip from the film that we’ve got for you below happens to take place before those friendships come together, but it can only serve to show just how remarkable the eventual bonds truly are. Yeah, they’re not quite pals yet, but we’ll just have to see how that all hashes out. Colella’s film is a true indie film, one that was filmed in her own house and uses her own friends, neighbors, and housemates to make up most of her cast. That sort of love just has to flow into the finished product. Check out our exclusive clip and poster from Breakfast With Curtis after the break, along...

The opening night movie of the Los Angeles Film Festival — Woody Allen’s To Rome with Love — was announced three weeks ago (along with screenings of Sundance winners Middle of Nowhere and Beasts of the Southern Wild), but today the rest of the line-up was unveiled, with the headline news being that Steven Soderbergh’s male stripper romp, Magic Mike, starring Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey, will close out the June fest.
In the narrative competition, there are notable entries from Cory McAbee (The American Astronaut), Jared Moshé (a familiar name as a producer, making his first film as director), and Alex Karpovsky, whose other 2012 effort, Rubberneck, just premiered at Tribeca. Among the other premieres are the Uganda-set Lgbt doc Call Me Kuchu, the star-studded directorial debut of screenwriter Alex Kurtzman, People Like Us, and indie stalwart Spencer Parsons’ Saturday Morning Massacre.
