The American Film Institute (AFI) has announced the full lineup for their 2023 festival, which will run in person from Oct. 25 to Oct. 29. The festival will feature the world premiere of Rob Reiner’s “Albert Brooks: Defending My Life” and the world premiere of Matthew Brown’s “Freud’s Last Session,” starring Anthony Hopkins and Matthew Goode.
Other titles include Andrew Haigh’s “All of Us Strangers,” Cord Jefferson’s “American Fiction,” Jeff Nichols’ “The Bikeriders,” Mahalia Belo’s “The End We Start From,” Christos Nikou’s “Fingernails,” Michel Franco’s “Memory,” Jessica Yu’s “Quiz Lady” and J.A. Bayona’s “Society of the Snow.”

They will be celebrated with other honorees at a special event in October, exact date Tba.
This year’s Ves Fellows are Jeff Barnes, Toni Pace Carstensen, Bob Coleman, Chuck Finance, Shannon Gans, Tim McGovern, and Ray McMillan.

Apple has debuted the first official trailer for John Carney’s “Flora and Son,” which stars Eve Hewson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Single mother Flora (Hewson) is unsure what to do with her rowdy teenage son, Max (Orén Kinlan) when the police suggest he picks up a hobby. Max swiftly turns to the art of music with the help of a “washed-up L.A. musician” (Gordon-Levitt), with the family learning the true “transformative power of music.” The first official trailer gives audiences a glimpse at the heartfelt story showcasing the bond between a mother and her son.
The musical drama will hit select theaters on Sept. 22 and release globally via Apple TV+ on Sept. 29.
Jack Reynor will star alongside Hewson, Gordon-Levitt and Kinlan. Carney serves as director, writer and producer alongside Rebecca producers O’Flanagan, Robert Walpole, Anthony Bregman. Hewson, Gordon-Levitt, Reynor and Kinlan all executive produce.

Jeffrey A. Okun, head of visual effects for Prana Studios, has been re-elected for a fourth one-year term as chairman of the board of the Visual Effects Society. Okun, an innovator and creator of groundbreaking effects designs, pledged to continue work on behalf of visual effects artists in all media. Movies he’s worked on include The Last Starfighter, Stargate, The Last Samurai and The Day the Earth Stood Still.
