What is this? Sex-oriented movies with believable psychodramatics, made by a committed artist with taste and talent? Joe Sarno’s pictures still aren’t suitable for grandma, but he’s way, way above the exploitation grindhouse competition of his day. His ’60s B&W pictures are not only watchable, they’re involving. Restored to pre-print condition, they’re — how can I best put this? — artistically respectable.

Marine conservationist and film-maker who started out by hunting sharks and ended up defending them
Ron Taylor, who has died aged 78, was a great observer and defender of sharks. He began his career earning a living as a spearfisher, and later filmed some of the most exciting sequences for Steven Spielberg's 1975 film Jaws, but then spent the rest of his life educating people about the animals he regarded as "fascinating marine creatures". "There are over 360 different shark species in the world's oceans," he noted in an interview in 2007, "yet only a few of those are potentially dangerous. Each one has its own characteristics. Sharks have evolved to fulfil a different niche in the marine environment."
Sharks existed before the dinosaurs, and prospered for millions of years, yet during their lifetime Taylor and his wife, Valerie – an equally passionate advocate – saw them come under threat. Many are killed for their teeth,...

We spoke to Colonel Collins about what it's like to fly at three times the speed of sound…. A request in 1960 for Colonel Ken Collins to volunteer for a 'classified space program' by the Usaf's Nasa department took him to Area 51, where he became a pilot in the secret CIA spy plane project Oxcart.

One of the biggest open secrets in the USA, Area 51 / Groom Lake facility has long been a staple of Sf lore. In both fiction and the "reality" popularized by UFO conspiracy theorists Area 51 is the location where all of the crashed UFOs, alien bodies and other, more exotic, particulars are housed.
All of the fantastic fiction grows out of the high level of security that surrounds the actual facility. As the testing ground and launch point the latest high tech gadgets in use by the Us military and the various intelligence agencies like the CIA, very little of its actual history and operations have ever been committed to the public record.
That is until just recently, when a group of retired, elderly former employees spoke with the Los Angeles Times about their roles and activities at the facility.
