Nearly four years have gone by since it was announced that Treehouse Pictures was developing a remake of the 1991 Christina Applegate cult classic Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead (watch it Here) that would be directed by Bille Woodruff (Beauty Shop and the Honey quadrilogy) from a screenplay by Chuck Hayward (Dear White People). All that was revealed about the project at the time was that it would be “a present-day retelling centered on a black family.” Then that’s the last we heard about it. Apparently it made its way through production while flying under the radar, though, because Film Ratings has revealed that the remake has already received its rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board… and it’s a surprising one. While the original film was rated PG-13, the remake has earned an R rating for “teen drug use, language and some sexual references.”

Thanks in part to its memorable name becoming a punchline, Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead has enjoyed a life well beyond its 1991 theatrical run. Though it was far from being a runaway box-office hit at the time, it had enough name recognition to eventually become a cult classic through home video and streaming. Speaking at a fan event, Keith Coogan — who played the family’s second-oldest child (behind Christina Applegate) — talked about how the film wound up with its unusual title.(Click on the media bar below to hear Keith Coogan) https://www.hollywoodoutbreak.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Keith_coogan_Dont_Tell_Mom_Baby_sitter_is_Dead_.mp3

One of the 90s’ most unique high school comedies, Encino Man, is currently getting a surge in recognition, and it’s pretty rad! There has probably never been such a rejoiced and universally pleased result of two Academy Award wins than the great comeback stories of Brendan Fraser and Ke Huy Quan. Both have shown great humility and gratefulness and knowing what they have dealt with, both giving genuinely human performances last year is nothing short of amazing. What’s even more impressive is both had been co-stars in this wacky comedy, and people have been gushing over the reunion.
One thing that Brendan Fraser revealed recently in an interview on The Drew Barrymore Show is that before he got the part of Link in Encino Man, Ben Stiller had screen tested for it. And just a few days ago, low and behold, the official YouTube account of the film...

Tiger Woods reportedly gave fellow professional golfer Justin Thomas a tampon after outdriving him by 10 yards.
Thomas threw away the tampon before the two friends laughed and hugged as they left the ninth hole at the Genesis International on Thursday.

Exclusive: Tyra Banks (America’s Next Top Model) has signed on for a role in Treehouse Pictures’ remake of Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead, which is heading into production in Los Angeles in July.
The original 1991 film, from director Stephen Herek, follows Sue Ellen “Swell” Crandell (Christina Applegate), a 17-year-old forced to take care of her four younger siblings after the babysitter hired by her mother dies while mom’s out of town. While the Warner Bros comedy also starring Joanna Cassidy, Keith Coogan, John Getz and Josh Charles didn’t land as a major hit, either critically or commercially, it has fostered a cult following in the decades since.
Treehouse’s remake is billed as a present-day retelling centered on a Black family. Banks will play Cassidy’s character Rose, a fashion executive at General Apparel West, who takes a chance on Swell by hiring her as an executive assistant.

Here at TV Fanatic, we just wrapped up an exclusive interview series with former child actor Scott Schwartz.
In it, Schwartz criticizes Corey Feldman's behavior, his new documentary film, his use of Corey Haim's name for his own publicity, and his allegations of pedophilia and molestation against Charlie Sheen, Alphy Hoffman, and others.
If you have not yet read the installments, you can find them here: Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3.
After Part 1 went live, we received a response from Feldman via his publicist, requesting we include an exclusive quote in response.
We then offered to interview Feldman as well, in case there were more points he wanted to address after reading the series. As of the publishing date of this feature, we have not been granted such an interview.
But here -- in the epilogue of our three-part series, we have Corey Feldman's response after having read Part...

Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett’s play The Diary of Anne Frank is getting a timely retooling. Director Stan Zimmerman is helming a new version of the play that will change the narrative from the Nazis’ hunting down and oppression of Jewish people to a story about Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents hunting down illegal immigrants.
The reimagined play is set to run for a limited three-week run at the Dorie Theatre in Los Angeles starting Sept. 6. The original follows Frank as she chronicles her Jewish family hiding during the WWII Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. The new production from Pop-Up Playhouse and Anne Kathryn Parma is inspired by a true story of a Jewish woman in Los Angeles who created a safe house for a Latina mother and her two daughters after her husband was deported by Ice.

Adult World
Stars: Emma Roberts, Evan Peters, John Cusack, Armando Riesco, Shannon Woodward, Chris Riggi, Scott Coffey, Darin Scott, Reed Birney, Catherine Lloyd Burns | Written by Andy Cochran | Directed by Scott Coffey
Helmed by actor-turned-director Scott Coffey, who many may recognise from 80s films such as Some Kind of Wonderful and Space Camp, Adult World is another in a long-line of American indie dramas – you know the type: the ones that mix witty dialogue and a hip soundtracks in the hopes of creating something loftier than the rest. This particular example follows Amy (Roberts), a naive college graduate who believes she’s destined to be a great poet, who begrudgingly accepts a job at a sex shop while she pursues a mentorship with her idol, reclusive writer Rat Billings (Cusack).

This is one of those weekends where I've been actively creating an evolving list for myself to try and figure out how many movies I can realisically fit in over the next few days. While not much is happening in terms of new releases, there is a true embarrasment of riches when it comes to local classic film screenings.
Do you want to see A Clockwork Orange in 35mm at the Alamo Ritz on Saturday? Maybe you'd prefer a Keith Coogan double feature at the Ritz with Adventures In Babysitting and Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead tomorrow evening? How about catching Back To The Future and The Karate Kid in 35mm at the Paramount on Sunday? Those picks alone would fill up your weekend, but then you could try to squeeze in a double feature of digitally restored titles from the new Shintoho Mindwarp series followed by a 35mm...

The upcoming romantic comedy Playing for Keeps may not look particularly enticing, but keep in mind that it’s written by Robbie Fox, who gave us the clever script for So I Married an Axe Murderer about 20 years ago. Of course, he followed that with a story credit on the Pauly Shore vehicle In the Army Now (which was rewritten) before disappearing for two decades — I’m only aware of one spec script he sold in 1999 for a time travel-based divorce comedy titled Twice Upon a Time, which has never been produced. He’s also done some uncredited work through his career, including rewrites on My Girl, but for the most part his output is unknown and inconsistent. Still, I thought it would be fun to go back to the beginning of his career and watch 25-year-old short film titled The Great O’Grady. Fox directed the 30-minute film in addition to scripting, and...

A Planet Fury-approved selection of notable genre releases for August.
Jaws (1975) Universal Blu-ray/DVD/Digital combo Available Now
Steven Spielberg’s classic thriller has been painstakingly restored from the original film elements. Amity Island has never been so beautiful. The movie itself seems to improve with age, with amazing performances and scenes that still manage to unnerve — Susan Backlinie’s death at the beginning is truly one of the most horrifying ever portrayed onscreen. Making this a true “special edition” is the long-awaited release of The Shark Is Still Working, an expansive documentary on the making and the impact of the 1975 film. All of the surviving cast and crew are interviewed along with several minutes of never-before-seen footage.
Special Features:
*Digitally remastered and fully restored from high resolution 35mm original film elements.
*Digital Copy of Jaws
*UltraViolet Copy of Jaws

Oh, to be an affluent, Chicago-based teenager in the late 1980s; judging by this and the entire oeuvre of John Hughes, there may not be a social set to envy more. It's not so much that all of these characters don't have any problems (they find enough of them here) as much as they are incapable of reacting to serious trauma in the way that it merits. The kids in Adventures in Babysitting get themselves in plenty of scrapes, but none of them seem unsolvable by way of moping or plain old gumption.
Stood up on her anniversary, Chris (Elisabeth Shue) decides to take a babysitting job tending Sara (Maia Brewton) and Brad (Keith Coogan) for the evening. When her friend Brenda (Penelope Ann Miller) calls stranded from the inter-city, Chris has little choice but to go in and get her, bringing the kids and Daryl (Anthony Rapp) in tow.

Welcome back to This Week In DVD… now with more Blu-ray! The times they are a changing, and occasionally that means Fsr’s DVD department is sent Blu-rays to cover instead. It happens. This week it happened to a handful of older Touchstone films, a couple Chuck Norris classics, two TV series, a beloved children’s classic and two direct to disc horror films. As always, if you see something you like, click on the image to buy it. Strike Back: Cinemax Season One (Blu-ray/DVD) Michael Stonebridge is an elite member of Britain’s anti-terrorist squad, and his latest mission finds him taking on the world’s most dangerous madman while he simultaneously takes on a new partner in a disgraced Delta Force soldier named Damien Scott. Together they kill, screw and blow(up) their way around the world trying to stop an impending terrorist attack. This is technically the British series’ second season, but...

Given the recent surge of 1980s popular culture nostalgia, discussions of that decade’s iconic films unfailingly revert to the unique 1980s teen comedy genre, always dominated by the catalog of John Hughes. But sadly, some outstanding films from that era are overlooked or even forgotten, and all teen movies from this period seem to be unfairly compared to Hughes’s work. One such semi-lost and under-appreciated gem is director Chris Columbus’s delightful 1987 teen comedy “Adventures in Babysitting.”
The movie opens in Chicago’s Oak Park suburb with the pretty, charming, 17-year-old girl next door Chris Parker (Elisabeth Shue) preparing for a romantic evening with her dreamy boyfriend Mike Todwell (Bradley Whitford). Mike finally arrives, only to inform Chris that his younger sister is sick, and that he is unable to take her out. If one good thing came out of former "Growing Pains" child star Kirk Cameron's public anti-homosexual stance, it may be the solidarity inspired in his fellow child actors.

Not a big hit on release in 1991, teen-filled action movie Toy Soldiers has aged surprisingly well. Simon takes a look back…
By the start of the 90s, the action movie was on the cusp of some big changes.
This was the last era of the global action movie superstar, powering their films to massive box office success. Terminator 2 was about to usher in a growing reliance on special effects, and the lure of the computer was something the genre would wrestle with from that point onwards. And that means films such as Toy Soldiers, whilst nothing as dramatic as the last of a dying breed, are really quite rare.
The concept and set-up of this particular film is quite straightforward, and in narrative terms, it’s happy to be conventional. A prologue alerts us to another generic criminal being extradited to America, and we can see that son of said criminal,...

The teenage years are a time in everyone’s life when their minds are fertile for the seeds of change. A new experience can completely change a teenager’s personality, reading a new book or watching a new movie can radically alter the way that they self-identify. Peter Weir’s 1989 boarding school drama Dead Poets Society is one of those new movie experiences that I’ve often seen held up as a life changing experience. Multiple times in my high school career the movie was shown to my class by teachers trying to inspire a love of learning in the students. I’ve met more than one person bold enough to show me their “Carpe Diem” tattoo, which is the movie’s big rallying cry. In general it just seems that there is something about this film that resonates strongly and sticks with a large portion of the people who see it. Daniel Petrie Jr....

Chicago – As far as kiddie tearjerkers go, “The Fox and the Hound” is one of Disney’s finest. It’s not a great film, and certainly not in the same league as the watershed game-changers that came before or the renaissance masterworks that followed. But it is a tender and bittersweet fable with a message of refreshing complexity. At its heart is a friendship that society has deemed unsustainable, and the film doesn’t shy away from its troubling repercussions.
Based on the novel by Daniel Mannix, this 1981 effort functioned as a crucial turning point in the history of Disney studios, when veteran animators like Wolfgang Reitherman were replaced by a slate of new talent including Ron Clements and John Musker (future co-directors of “The Little Mermaid”). Creative differences intensified between the old guard and the rookies, many of whom found the project to be distressingly bland. This caused the...

Short films are a great way to fill some of your free time, especially when you don’t have enough space in your extremely hectic daily schedule for a full-length feature. With that in mind, take a gander at director John Gorman’s short flick “Delia”, which stars Jen Nikolaisen, Keith Coogan, John Gorman, Michelle Renee Allaire, Jeff Coatney, and Gena Shaw. The film is about, and I quote, “a henpecked husband tries to fix his marriage with his hateful wife, but an armed intruder interrupts their cabin getaway, and the husband fixes his self-respect instead.” The damned thing is fairly fantastic, but then again, I’m a pretty big Keith Coogan fan, so my opinion may be somewhat biased. The entire movie has been carefully embedded below, you know, just in case you’re curious. Source: Keith Coogan’s Facebook Page...

Ahead of Thor’s arrival in cinemas, we take a fond look back at an 80s movie that saw Vincent D’Onofrio star as the mighty hero. Well, sort of...
With the release of Thor imminent, I thought it would be an ideal time to revisit one of my favourite films from my childhood, which just so happens to be the finest film to date to feature the God of Thunder, Adventures In Babysitting.
The film was also known as A Night On The Town around its original release in 1987, but now carries the title Adventures In Babysitting on all copies that I've seen lately. The story follows Chris Parker (Elisabeth Shue), a high school senior who's set to go on a dream date in the city with her boyfriend, Mike Todwell (Bradley Whitford), who's pretty much the boy of Chris' dreams and drives a red Camaro with the un-cool...

After a random Google search for any and all things related to The Goonies back in 2008, I found myself stumbling upon HeyUGuys. I was absolutely chuffed by the fact that one of my all-time favourite movie quotes was somehow connected to one of the best movie blogging sites I’d ever come across online! Talk about finding rich stuff… and for real too! My inner movie geek was in seventh heaven! I befriended co-founders Dave and Jon and loved keeping track of Hug’s journey… it was so great to see the site blossom and grow and get to know the lads a bit too.
Upon my return from Japan in December 2009, I decided that I really wanted to get on board Team Hug. My passion for film drew me here and I wanted to see if I could offer any of my own movie musings, so I officially came...

I usually couldn’t give two squishy farts about how actors spend their spare time, particularly if they’re attempting to wax intellectual about various topics on Twitter. I just don’t care. However, this isn’t the case with actor Keith Coogan, who you may remember from such classics as “Adventures in Babysitting”, “Toy Soldiers”, and “Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead”. Every few days, the guy offers up a single monologue, which is generally from a memorable scene from a popular motion picture or play. Here’s the kicker: Keith is really good, not to mention remarkably funny. As of this writing — he does, after all, frequently update his blog — Coogan has contributed nearly 170 monologues, all of which are at the very least entertaining. If you’re interested in checking them out, I strongly suggest venturing over to his Monologue a Day blog, or, better yet,...

What happens when two young men let their love of movies, comic books, and all things “geek” take over their lives? They run away from their families, bringing only the most essential DVDs and comics to their secret, highly fortified underground bunker in sunny Southern California, where they start recording podcasts that will change the world.
Are they heroes?
No.
Are they geniuses?
Far from it.
Are they the future of this planet?
I sure hope not.
Simply put… Matt Cohen and Jesse Rivers are “Bagged and Boarded”.
Bagged & Boarded #74: They Just Don’t Endanger Kids Like They Used To -In which Matt and Brendo are joined by Adventures In Babysitting and Don’T Tell Mom The Babysitter’S Dead’s Keith Coogan to discuss growing up Hollywood, wooing 80’s film stars, and how to befriend a Cheetah.

Had enough of '80s remakes after this past weekend? Good, because Hollywood is entering the 1990s. Actually, Brett Ratner might have already kicked off the trend with recent plans to redo House Party, but now we're fully into the decade with the very early development of a Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead rehash. According to Pajiba (which considers this an '80s remake for some reason), the project, based on the 1991 showcase for TV star Christina Applegate, is being produced by The Mark Gordon Company (The Messenger; 2012) and is currently out to writers.
And dang it if Keith Coogan isn't crying somewhere. Between this and the Adventures in Babysitting remake and the very likelihood of both Toy Soldiers and Hiding Out being revisited at some point, the poor guy's career is the latest being made obsolete. I just hope his replacement isn't made to utter his iconic line,...

With the Karate Kid doing so well at the box office in the States over the weekend (it brought in an estimated $56m / £38m) and The A-Team movie doing rather well too (bringing in an estimated $26m / £17.7m), it’s no wonder than news of more 80s remakes starts to hit the net.
The latest news is that a remake of early 90’s classic, Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead is on the way with the producer Mark Gordon (Saving Private Ryan, 2012, and loads more) set to helm it’s revival. All this comes from Pajiba.com.
