George Lucas' "Star Wars" is easily the most underestimated movie ever made.
When Lucas closed a deal with 20th Century Fox chief Alan Ladd Jr. in June 1973 to write and direct the space opera, he was two months away from hitting the box-office jackpot with his nostalgia-fueled classic "American Graffiti." And while Lucas was a part of the New Hollywood revolution on the strength of "Thx 1138" alone, he wasn't interested in making thematically/stylistically provocative films like William Friedkin, Francis Ford Coppola, and Martin Scorsese. He just wanted to tell stories, one of which happened to be an intergalactic saga inspired by the escapist adventures of his youth.
No one got it. So when "Star Wars" turned into the biggest cinematic phenomenon since "Gone with the Wind," just about everyone who made money off the motion picture industry was caught flat-footed. In many cases, the demand for anything related...

Gunsmoke became one of the most popular television shows of all time. The adult Western captured the hearts of people around the world thanks to its endearing cast of vibrant characters, as well as the world it built with Dodge City. However, the production didn’t forget its roots. The Gunsmoke series premiere had an Easter egg seen in the background that tipped its hat back at the original radio show.

Ken Bruce has become the latest veteran presenter to leave BBC Radio 2, leaving the corporation after 45 years to host a show on commercial rival, Greatest Hits Radio.

He has hosted the 9:30am to 12pm weekday show since 1990, and been with the BBC since 1977 where he began as a presenter on Radio Scotland.

Chris Moyles has revealed that the way his 2012 exit from the Radio 1 breakfast show was handled left him feeling “a bit cross”.
Moyles led the extremely popular BBC radio broadcast for almost nine years – longer than any other presenter before or since – totalling 15 years at the station.
He was succeeded by Nick Grimshaw who gave way to Greg James in 2018.
Speaking to MP Matt Hancock on I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here on Monday night’s episode (14 November), Moyles said his departure was handled “so badly”.
“I knew that Radio 1 is a conveyor belt and you might be there for a year or you might be there for 15 years, but you’re going to fall off the end at some point,” he said.
Hancock asked: “Politics is like that. Did you know the end was coming? Did you leave happy or did you leave cross?”

To get everyone in the mood for his ninth film, director and cult film guru Quentin Tarantino has something special in mind for the Sony Movie Channel. From the 5th of August Tarantino’s ‘Swinging Sixties-a-Movie Marathon’ will showcase nine films which perfectly set the tone for Once Upon a Time …in Hollywood, which comes out in cinemas on the 14th of August.
Each of these films has been specially curated, having influenced the director’s new film, and will play individually or as double features. As always with the director, there are some surprises here. In amongst ’60s classics Easy Rider and Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice are secret agent specials, violent Westerns and a little bit of love in all its complicated forms. In short – it’s a masterclass in movie mood – just the thing to dive into before you take a trip back to the...

The ‘other’ Hollywood studio version of the Alamo story is quite good, with strong production values, exciting stunt battle action and something Republic Pictures didn’t manage very often, a solid screenplay. Sterling Hayden is Jim Bowie, this version’s central hero, with great backup from Anna Maria Alberghetti, Ernest Borgnine, J. Carrol Naish, and Ben Cooper. But best of all is that old hay-shaker Arthur Hunnicutt, as the movies’ best and most natural Davy Crockett.

Fans, creators, actors, historians, licensees, Nasa and even the United States Post Office celebrated Star Trek’s 50th Anniversary last week at Manhattan’s Javits Center during Star Trek: Mission New York. This convention was a triumph of Geek Culture and how one man’s vision inspired so many others to create one of the most successful and enduring entertainment franchises.
Star Trek fandom has always been passionate and vocal. They’ve banded together to keep the Enterprise flying and have been holding conventions since the 70s. This convention, created by Reed Elsevier’s ReedPop division, was held in the same location as their New York Comic Con. That’s become such a behemoth that, by comparison, Star Trek: Mission New York seemed to embrace a more intimate vibe.
There are benefits to a smaller convention. This was so much easier to navigate than New York Comic Con.

Five members of an underground piracy group that wanted to be the first to release the latest blockbusters on the web have been jailed for more than 17 years.

Together with a returning Simon Cowell and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini are BBC Radio 1 breakfast show DJ Nick Grimshaw and popstar/actress Rita Ora.

Nick Grimshaw has admitted that he would "love" to play a part in the new series of The X Factor.
The DJ and broadcaster has been tipped to join the 2015 judging panel, but confirmed that he hasn't had any formal discussions about the role with Simon Cowell or show producers.
Grimshaw, who appears alongside Britain's Got Talent judges Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon on Alan Carr's talk show tonight, said: "I feel like everyone's been up for this job - Robbie Williams, Demi Lovato.
"I saw this week they were like, Dolly Parton. Who will it be, Nick Grimshaw or Dolly Parton? Obviously give it to Dolly - although I would love to do it."
When Holden suggested there was room for both on the X Factor panel, Grimshaw added: "Yeah, come on - me and Dolly. Yeah I would [be interested]. I love the show."
Carr then asked Grimshaw if he'd "heard anything from Simon,...

You have to give a bit of applause to Steve Carell and Jennifer Garner for being in Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. It isn’t that it’s good, because it really isn’t, but it’s a fun, family-friendly effort that aims at making kids laugh.
In the world of movies geared towards younger audiences, there are two camps – those that have some appeal to older audiences as well, and those that really, really don’t. This one is squarely in the latter camp, which actually makes it hard to judge.
Sure, it’s fairly stupid, but it isn’t precisely because it thinks you’re stupid (or kids are). It’s just that if you’re young, you’re easier to get a laugh out of, and things like getting kicked by a kangaroo are hilarious.
While the film manages a decent story,...

I thought Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day was okay. There were some good parts and some bad parts. The movie starts off with Alexander Cooper (Ed Oxenbould) having a very bad day. Then he makes a birthday wish that puts a curse on his family’s day (typical Disney movie). So the next day they are running late and nothing is going right. His family’s bad day goes on for over half the movie.
I thought sometimes the movie went too far. Like when Emily Cooper (Kerris Dorsey) throws up three times in the movie. How much throw up do we really need to see? I certainly don’t want to see any throw up. I think sometimes the movie wasn’t funny – it was outright stupid. Like when Anthony Cooper (Dylan Minnette) is taking his driver’s test and the test person tells...

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day is a family comedy with scenes that are cringe-worthy and oh-so-relatable. But through all the mishaps and catastrophes that the Cooper family encounters, at the end of the day, they realize that you need to have to bad days in order to love the good days even more.
Steve Carrell, who plays upbeat dad Ben Cooper, says the movie shows that some bad days are inevitable.
"The toughest part for us is holding back from always trying to make [our day] perfect or make it ideal," he says. "Life will give you twists and turns. That's our challenge: to not make every day the best day possible. It's just not realistic."
Jennifer Garner, who plays super mom Kelly Cooper, says that sometimes too much positivity and turning a blind eye to reality could be destructive in a household.

I had a whole rant plotted out in my mind, but when my fingers hit the keyboard I decided against it. Perhaps I’m mellowing in my antiquity. I hope not, as being not-mellow is how I make my living. Maybe it’s because I’m going to this weekend’s Baltimore Comic Con, always a wonderful event, and I’m awash in breathless anticipation.
Well, either way, I’ve got a deadline and ComicMix’s editor-in-chief is an asshole (not to be confused with this column’s editor, Adriane Nash, who is not an asshole) and I’ve got all these Sin City thoughts attacking my brain like anti-bodies at a clown orgy and I’m willing to share. Let’s see how long it takes for me to become non-mellow.

I have some very early memories from my childhood, and I'm amazed by the things that I can remember. They are very vivid and really interesting to me. My earliest memory comes from when I was 2 years old, and it is of me pushing one of those awesome, old-school, metal yellow Tonka Trucks up and down the walkway in front of my family's apartment. I loved playing with that thing.
I've been a Marvel fan for as long as I can remember, and The Hulk was my first favorite superhero. When I was 3 years old I wanted to be The Hulk for Halloween, so my parents went out and got me one of those vintage 1980s Ben Cooper halloween costumes. I was so excited when they brought it home for me, and I couldn't wait to wear it.
Ben Cooper was one of the three largest Halloween costume manufacturers in the U.

Though there are many memorable zombies from the last several decades of horror, my personal favorite has always been the Tarman - the melted mess of a monster that Frank and Freddy unwittingly unleashed from his Trioxin canister prison in Return of the Living Dead. Though he's an incredibly vicious zombie, who won't think twice about munching on your brains, there's just something that's utterly loveable about Tarman - which is probably why he's become one of the most iconic and fan-favorite zombies of all time.
Needless to say, I've been quite pleased to see that Tarman has been getting a whole lot of love on the Halloween front this year. First, Fright Rags released a limited edition package that included a t-shirt and even a Tarman mask, the latter made to look like the old school boxed masks companies like Ben Cooper and Collegeville released back in the 70s...

Remember a couple of days ago when we shared that little tease from Fright Rags' newsletter showing what looked like a vintage-style Halloween mask of “Tarman” from Return of the Living Dead? Well, it turns out our guess was spot-on, as proven by their latest update. From 10Am Thursday, July 11th through 10Am Monday, July 15th (all times Eastern), Fright Rags will be taking orders for an extremely limited run of a special Tarman Box Set, which includes a two-sided shirt print featuring a cool new design by William Stout, and a plastic mask designed by sculptor Monte Ward that was inspired by those old Ben Cooper dime-store costumes – which most monster kids of a certain age fondly remember, even if they were cheap as hell and smelled nasty. The set comes packaged in a vintage-style costume box with retro graphics. Also available on July 11th is a limited edition...

'Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead' has failed to reach number one, after an online campaign by opponents of late former prime minister Margaret Thatcher propelled it into the charts.
The recording, taken from 1939 film 'The Wizard of Oz', entered the charts at number two.
It was more than 5,000 sales short of this week's chart-topper 'Need U (100%)' by Duke Dumont featuring A*M*E.
The Official Charts Company described 'Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead' as "one of the most controversial chart contenders of all time".
The 51-second song entered the charts at number 54 on Tuesday, the day after Baroness Thatcher's death, and climbed to number 10 on Wednesday. By Thursday, it had reached number four and was at number three by Friday.
There was a final rush of 18,000 sales between Friday morning and today, the Official Charts Company said, but its final total was 52,605 copies - 5,700 behind Duke Dumont,...

Once upon a time, before Adam Scott was an actor-turned-caterer in "Party Down" or one half of TV's sweetest couple on "Parks and Rec," he was a serial TV guest star and recurred on "Six Feet Under" in 2002.
But it wasn't just any role. Scott played Ben Cooper, a love interest for Michael C. Hall's "Six Feet Under" character, David Fisher. Yep, Dexter Morgan and Ben Wyatt got it on.
Scott's other early TV work included "Veronica Mars," "Boy Meets World" and "Party of Five." Watch some of his "Six Feet Under" scenes below.

Flavoured milk brand Oak has created a series of videos purporting to be footage of mask-wearing raiders forcing their way into convenience stores to conduct “reverse robberies” in which they fill the shelves with the drink.
The hidden camera-style videos appear to show shop staff being taken by surprise when the raid takes place. It features the mask-wearing man burst in a shop and announce “Everyone stay calm this is a reverse robbery.”
However the fact that the fridge they load up was already empty may lead to suggestions that the footage was actually staged. Nobody from the Monkeys or Parmalat was able to clarify at the time of posting.
According to a press release: “The Oak Facebook wall was inundated with fans complaining that they could no longer get a fix of their favourite flavoured milk. Their beloved Oak was disappearing from convenience stores across the land.
