Leanza Cornett, the former Miss America and ex-wife of Mark Steines, has died. She was 49.
Cornett suffered a “serious head injury” on Oct. 12, according to her health & wellness group Leanza Cornett’s Circle of Love. That Facebook group has been giving regular updates on Cornett since she was hospitalized. No cause of death was given, but CBS reported that the Jacksonville native, a mother of two, fell earlier this month.
After suffering what Cornett’s group referred to as “an enormous blow to the back of her head,” she was admitted to the ICU and underwent surgery to “stop the bleeding in her brain,” but the bleeding and swelling continued.
In addition to her 1993 Miss America pageant win, Cornett appeared as both herself and in small acting roles on numerous TV shows. In 1996, for example, Cornett guested on “Saved by the Bell: The New Class” as “Carol.”

More than ever, it's all about home and family for Mark Steines.
The former "Entertainment Tonight" anchor-reporter is largely getting off the celebrity beat to keep it real for himself and others by teaming with "Trading Spaces" alum Paige Davis for two hours each weekday to host Hallmark Channel's new program "Home & Family" starting Monday, Oct. 1. Mark Steines is ready for viewers to know him much more than they already might.
After almost 17 years as an "Entertainment Tonight" anchor-reporter, he's moving to another daily television berth, and one he acknowledges is "a big piece of real estate": Hallmark Channel's two-hour weekday program "Home & Family," which he'll co-host with "Trading Spaces" veteran Paige Davis starting Monday, Oct. 1.
That much air time per week, plus the many household and family matters that husband and father Steines will tackle on the show, ensure his audience will be very familiar with him.
"If somebody were to say, 'You get to take your life and make it your job,' that to me is the sweet spot," he tells Zap2it. "One of my two sons came in the other day and said, 'Hey, the front gate's fixed! I'll bet you fixed it, didn't you, Dad?' And I said,...
