Craig Allen Counard was born on October 25, 1962 in Saginaw, Michigan.
He moved to Los Angeles, California in the early 80s to make it in the
music business. He was a talented musician, guitarist,
singer/songwriter, artist, writer, and poet. He loved the Beat Writers,
especially Jack Kerouac and William Burroughs. He played in many bands
over the years, including The Taste, Triple Threat, The Elements, and
The Decadents. He wrote music for TV & film, his credits include "The
Real World" and "Road Rules" and a movie called "A Drug Called
Pornography". Not only did he write music, but he was a published food
and music critic as well, with articles appearing in "Wine and Dine
Gourmet Magazine", "LA Beat", "Bella Online", and "The Album Network".
Craig had just finished the first draft of his novel, "Confessions"
prior to his untimely death. Craig became ill in late February 2004,
with an antibiotic-resistant staph infection in his hip area. He was
hospitalized and released after 5 days only to be readmitted in early
March 2004. This time, he was in the hospital for 7 weeks because the
staph infection had gone to his heart (endocarditis). He was discharged
with orders to follow-up and a heart valve replacement surgery likely
in his future. Craig was fine after his release until the beginning of
June 2004, when he began to complain of flu-like symptoms. However, he
refused to go to the doctor, no matter how much his loved ones begged
him to go. On June 11, 2004, he was readmitted to the hospital, this
time unable to see. Unfortunately, the endocarditis had not gone away
completely after his March-April 2004 hospital stay and now the
infection had spread to his brain. The hospital did all they could but
the infection had spread too much, it was throughout his body and
brain. On June 16, 2004, Craig was taken off life support and he passed
away. He is survived by his 5 1/2-year-old daughter, his former wife,
his girlfriend, his parents, his 2 sisters, and many, many, many
friends. He was 41 years old.
