The Getback is the latest “Tubi Original”, but I’m not sure that’s really accurate as there’s almost nothing original about this film.
Mal Cooper was a rising star in the police department. Until someone he brought in was found not guilty and Mal took matters into his own hands. Turns out the guy was someone even a cop can’t get away with beating, the son of a senator. The ensuing scandal cost him his job and his wife.
Now he works as a bounty hunter, tracking down bail jumpers for Alexander Rogan. Right now he wants him to bring in Jake Gordon. There’s just one problem, Jake’s testimony could make sure Alonzo Beaumont never leaves prison, so...

Artists Missy Elliott, Queen Latifah, Lil' Kim and Salt-n-Pepa are set to be honored at this year's all-female show, and People got a preview of their fierce shoot with photographer Annie Leibovitz. The star-studded evening on July 11 will celebrate the ladies who rose to the top of a male-dominated genre and made their voices heard. If the second act of Salt-n-Pepa's career is shaping up like a bizarro version of the first, well, that's just fine with them. Seven years after the trio's 2007 reformation — they started in 1985 and disbanded in 2002 — the group had their first next-generation national success, albeit in an unexpected form: a Geico commercial featuring them and their 1987 hit "Push It" amid a montage of push-intensive activities. That exposed them to a new audience, one that may embrace another nostalgia-tinged endeavor: Brooklyn's upcoming '90s Fest, which they'll be headlining on September 12 (joining such acts as Lisa Loeb, Coolio, Naughty by Nature, Smash Mouth, and Tonic). We caught up with Salt to talk about how that commercial and '90s nostalgia have helped the group's career. There's been a lot of revived interest in '90s culture, both ironic and sincere. When did you notice that wave of nostalgia? We got...

The 1990s were a very distinct decade in music – Seattle became the birth place of grunge, putting on a memorable live performance became just as important as releasing an amazing album, and boy bands dominated the end of the decade with a fever pitch that reverberates to this day (see: The Package Tour). The 1990s also saw a number of movies with fantastic soundtracks that truly represented the decade (Singles, Clueless, Can’t Hardly Wait), but The To Do List is one of the first films to come out in the aftermath of the ’90s that takes audiences right back to the days of Naughty By Nature, The Cranberries, Mazzy Star, and Salt-n-Pepa. The soundtrack for The To Do List is, as one would imagine, filled with “sexy” songs which play to the plot of the film which has Brandy Klark (Aubrey Plaza) running through a laundry list of sexual exploits with a laser focus on losing...

History is full of uncanny coincidences. Mark Twain was born on the day Halley's Comet swung by Earth in 1835, and died when it hurtled around again in 1910. The writer Morgan Robertson wrote a book about the sinking of a huge ocean-going liner 14 years before the Titanic collided with an iceberg in 1912. And by an uncanny twist of fate, last month saw the release of Atlantic Rim, which appears to have anticipated Guillermo del Toro's giant-robots-versus-giant-monsters flick Pacific Rim by several weeks.
American film studio The Asylum has a spooky knack of releasing its own similarly-named film just before a major blockbuster. Transmorphers appeared just before Transformers in 2007. I Am Omega appeared at around the time of I Am Legend. Other...

As if mounting (ha ha) a movie about one young woman's goal to knock every sexual act off of her bucket list before college isn't ambitious enough, the decision to set it in the '90s is also pretty bold. If you don't do it right, it can come off as cheap or misguided, but the filmmakers behind "The To Do List" have made sure the soundtrack reflects the times, for better or worse.... And so, the 12-strong soundtrack for the upcoming comedy mixes in (mostly dated/one hit wonder) hip hop from 2 Live Crew, Mc Hammer and Naughty By Nature (though "O.P.P." still rules), some alt-fm staples from James, Gin Blossoms, Elastica, Cranberries and Mazzy Star, and a few odd outliers like House Of Love and Big Head Todd & The Monsters. And course, Salt N Pepa's "Let Talks About Sex" is here because it has to be.

Amazing the things you can find by complete accident when conducting a Google search. Like a Pensacola, Florida, news site spilling the beans about the cast and crew of the Asylum’s Pacific Rim mockbuster Atlantic Rim/From the Sea shooting in their area.
The reason for the two titles is because the film being reported on is clearly Atlantic Rim, The Asylum’s version of Guillermo Del Toro’s giant robots vs. giant monsters from beneath the sea mega-blockbuster coming this summer they initially announced last summer. Given some of the legal wrangling The Asylum has had to deal with in the year since, it might not be released with such a similar title when the time comes. The tentative working title is From the Sea; safe to say that won’t be the release title. I suppose they could retitle it something like Earth vs. the Giant Monsters,...

There comes a time in every music festival's life when its organizers decide to go big.
For nearly a decade, the lineup at each successive iteration of the annual Rock the Bells festival seems to have gotten more and more audacious, the 2012 festival may take the cake.
(Scroll Down For Photos And Lineup)
This year, they're bringing out hip-hop royalty like Nas, Ice Cube, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony (performing the entirety of "E. 1999 Eternal"), Naughty By Nature, Salt-n-Pepa, Redman and Method Man (performing the entirety of "Blackout"), Missy Elliot and Timbaland (performing together), local heroes E-40 and Too $hort (performing together!) and the RZA.
Did we mention Delton 3030 is performing too? That's Del the Funky Homosapien, Kid Koala and Dan the Automator's visionary sci-fi hip-hop project. And, yes, it's pretty much the greatest thing ever.
Combine that with upstarts like A$AP Rocky, Schoolboy Q and Kendrick Lamar and you've got...

So… instead of constantly anticipating the next studio produced and/or distributed “black film” to open at a theatre near you (and often being disappointed), why not start sifting through the myriad of straight-to-dvd “black film” releases, with the chance that you might find a few gems here and there (or just fairly decent films) that may have gone unnoticed, for one reason or another.
The phrase “straight-to-dvd” is akin to the scarlet letter for any film that wears it, and that’s unfair. I think we can all agree that not every film rejected for theatrical distribution is unworthy. Likewise, certainly not every film released in theatres deserves the luxury.
There are a wealth of films by and about black people produced and distributed annually, and the vast majority never see a single theatre screen (except maybe at film festivals). So, why not look there, the DVD market, for content,...

"DJ Hero 2" has entered the last leg of its path toward an October 19 release date, and though they've revealed 105 tracks that will appear featuring talent like DJ Qbert and DJ Shadow, FreeStyleGames had not yet named what the sequel's mix list would include. That's all changed now, however, and they've even grouped the combos and re-styled singles by producer.

HollywoodNews.com: Lady Gaga already has some of the biggest hits of the past year and so it would only make sense for three of them to be included in the new DJ Hero 2 video game that is slated to hit stores on October 19.

From Eminem’s “Not Afraid,” Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance,” David Guetta’s “Memories” feat. Kid Cudi, and Lil’ Wayne’s “Lollipop” feat. Static Major music fans will find more than a handful of songs to entertain themselves.

The night got real old school real fast as some of the most iconic hip-hop artists of the '90s hit the stage and shut down Wingate Field in Brooklyn for the Martin Luther King Jr. Summer Concert Series on Monday night (August 2). Fans packed into the park and filled it well over capacity, forcing the police to turn away dozens of would-be concert-goers. But the early birds were treated to a great night of stunning, energetic old school hip-hop.
Opening the concert was Mr. La Di Da Di himself, Slick Rick. The Ruler was definitely back when he hit us with old school favorites like "Hey Young World" and "Children's Story." Naughty by Nature followed close behind, and they easily got the crowd going wild with one of the best lines in rap: "You down with O.P.P? Yeah, you know me!" They ended their set with Treach saying,...

"He was an actor, he was a musician ... anything you could put, if he wanted to do it, he could do that. But he was a fool too. He did it well being a fool too. You don't want to be around nobody that's mean muggin' all day and got an attitude and hatin'. 'Pac wasn't nothing like that. 'Pac would have you just wanting to be around because you know you gonna have a ball around him and split some seams just having a good time."
-Naughty by Nature rapper Treach, telling MTV News all about his friend Tupac (who would have turned 39 years old today). 'Pac and Treach were friends who first met when they were roadies for then-established hip-hop acts (Tupac was working for Digital Underground, while Treach was assisting Queen Latifah). Singer Cher is leaving the stage and heading back to the screen to direct an episode of a top American TV show. After years of fame in the pop charts with hits like Believe, Cher says she wants to direct and star in an episode of the prison drama Oz. And the show's creator Tom Fontana is just as eager to have the pop vixen on board. He says, "Every once in a while I get word that Cher wants to direct an episode. I say, 'Fine' and she never calls me. Cher, please call!" Oz, popular because of its gritty hard-hitting content, has found favor with a loyal urban audience - so much so that high-profile rappers such as Method Man, Master P, LL Cool J and Naughty By Nature's Treach have all made cameo appearances on the show. Cher's last directorial outing was in 1996 for the TV movie If These Walls Could Talk.
