As the looming specter of a Trump presidency casts its long shadow over the new year, thrillers that hinge on secret government conspiracies are more apt than ever, and “Homecoming,” the first scripted podcast from Gimlet Media, is just the tonic for those who wish to bask in unpatriotic feelings (without doing anything drastic like moving to Canada.)
Scripted podcasts, while not the medium’s bread and butter, represent a significant sub-set of the trend that saved radio. The most prominent of which is “Welcome to Night Vale,” a bi-monthly cult hit that traverses all sorts of conspiracy theories and heightened realities. While one might wish the reality in “Homecoming” were heightened, the shocks in this tense mystery are far too plausible for comfort, especially in the brave new world of 2017.

Each week, four men and four women will compete in three rounds of extreme challenges — including turning themselves into literal human darts, then launching themselves at a target — in the hopes of walking away with the $50,000 prize.
Lutz will be joined by co-host Godfrey, best known for his ubiquitous presence in celebrity panel specials like I Love the ’90s and 100 Greatest Songs of the ’80s.

Starting next week, it won’t be as easy to watch ABC shows on line. As first reported by GigaOm, ABC will require viewers to log-in through a cable provider or through Hulu Plus in order to get access to episodes the day after they air. Otherwise, viewers will have to wait a week.
In the past few weeks, American Horror Story has managed to inspire an internet meme with the moment where Madison appears before Fiona, announcing “Surprise, bitch.”
That’s led to giving Madison’s line to other characters like Gandalf

And I thought Kathy Bates hissing “Lies!” would be the Coven moment that endures.
A bill that would change how lineages can be inherited in Britain is being called “The Downton Law”, after Downton Abbey since it would let titles be inherited by the eldest child, regardless of gender, and would have quickly solved Lady Mary‘s problems.

Stand-up comedians Patton Oswalt[/link]Patton Oswalt and David Cross[/link]David Cross are feuding over Cross' decision to take on a part Oswalt rejected in Alvin And The Chipmunks.
King Of Queens star Oswalt was stunned when the Arrested Development[/link]Arrested Development actor accepted the role of Ian in the part-animated film - and accused him of selling out on an online blog.
But Cross responded, "I read Patton's snide comment... about how he... chucked the script in disgust only to have it hungrily intercepted from its intended trajectory into the incinerator by me... a sell-out."
Oswalt then replied, writing, "Let's go get dinner somewhere soon and laugh over a bottle of integrity vineyards Shiraz. Or let fate take us where it will and I promise we will look back fondly on this meaty mess from the set of Hungry Hippos The Movie."...
