When Marvel Studios teamed with Sony Pictures and agreed to share Spider-Man, the decision was quickly made to focus on villains the web-slinger hadn't faced on screen before.
Spider-Man: Homecoming featured Shocker and The Vulture and even set the stage for Scorpion's eventual debut by introducing Mac Gargan. Spider-Man: Far From Home shifted focus to Mysterio, only for Spider-Man: No Way Home to pit Tom Holland's Peter Parker against the baddies from previous Spider-Man movies.
The MCU hero battled Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Electro, Sandman, and The Lizard; however, as exciting as that was for fans, it seemingly closed the door on new versions of those baddies appearing on Earth-616.
Heck, Willem Dafoe's Norman Osborn even confirmed his Variant doesn't exist on that world!
Now, though, scooper Alex Perez claims Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus "will be, if not, the final villains Holland’s Spider-Man faces when...

Better Call Saul alum Michael Mando is set to star opposite Brian Tyree Henry in Apple TV+’s crime drama series Sinking Spring, from Top Gun: Maverick writer Peter Craig. The series is directed and executive produced by Ridley Scott via his Scott Free Productions.
Based on Dennis Tafoya’s book Dope Thief, Sinking Spring follows long-time Philly friends and delinquents who pose as DEA agents to rob an unknown house in the countryside, only to have their small-time grift become a life-and-death enterprise, as they unwittingly reveal and unravel the biggest hidden narcotics corridor on the Eastern seaboard.
Mando will play Manny Cespedes, a good-hearted friend of Ray’s (Henry), who he first met when they did time together in the Youth Authority.
Craig created the eight-episode series, executive produces and will direct one episode. Scott executive produces for Scott Free Productions alongside David W. Zucker, Jordan Sheehan and Clayton Krueger.

Charlie Cox is reprising his role as Daredevil in the MCU in more ways than one. The actor – who played the Marvel hero in the Netflix series “Daredevil” and made an appearance in “Spider-Man: No Way Home” – will wear the suit once more in the upcoming Marvel Studios-produced animated Disney+ series “Spider-Man: Freshman Year,” it was announced at Comic-Con on Friday.
The series has also been renewed for a second season – titled “Spider-Man: Sophomore Year” – already, with “Freshman Year” dropping in 2024.
“We went back to the roots, Ditko-inspired glasses and the color scheme and had him redrawn into an Alex Toth animated style from the ’60s,” said Ryan Meiderding, VP and Creative Director of Visual Development at Marvel Studios.
