Not to be confused with the 1986 Gary Paulsen novel that was on your fifth-grade reading list, Adam Green's 2007 slasher "Hatchet" was intended to be an homage to the plentiful stalk-and-kill movies from the 1980s. The first "Hatchet" takes place deep in the swamps of Louisana where feckless city-dwellers get lost while taking a swamp tour. They trade stories of Victor Crowley, a local kid with facial differences who, years ago, was trapped in a burning house set ablaze by prankster teens. Crowley was accidentally killed by his father when he recklessly used a hatchet to free him from the fire. Victor's spirit is now said to haunt the swamp and murder interlopers. Of course, Victor will appear to start the predicted murders.
Victor Crowley was played by stuntman Kane Hodder, perhaps best known for playing the masked killer Jason Voorhees in "Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood,...

In Gregory Widen's 1995 horror film "The Prophecy," angels look like ordinary people but are a little ... off. They are typically clad in black suits, but move like birds, snapping their heads around quickly, as if constantly aware of potential danger. They also have unnatural balance, able to perch on the edges of buildings or the backs of chairs without toppling over. When an angel calls Uziel (Jeff Cadiente) dies in the first "Prophecy," a medical examiner finds that the corpse is missing its eyes and that its blood chemistry is similar to that of an unborn fetus. Angels, it seems, are also intersex, possessing both a penis and a vagina. Angels, it seems, lurk among us, resentful of humanity.

In the article series Sound and Vision we take a look at music videos from notable directors. This week we take a look at The Misfits' Scream!, directed by George A. Romero. The Sound and Vision of this week might be about George A. Romero, the director who created the modern zombie, but we start with a different icon. Wes Craven, the King of slasher movies, was on a roll in the nineties after his career was revitalized with the meta-horror of Scream. A sequel had to follow, and Scream 2 was the hottest ticket in town. Enter The Misfits, who themselves had a second wind under an iteration without the infamous Glenn Danzig. The new line-up of the band wrote a track for Scream...

Glenn Danzig is such a big Elvis Presley fan that he’s covered numerous songs by the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Danzig said that Elvis’ ’68 Comeback Special was a response to various cultural forces of the time, including hippies. He has a point.
Glenn Danzig felt Elvis Presley’s ’68 Comeback Special’ was a response to the British Invasion
During a 2020 interview with Rolling Stone, the “Mother” singer was asked what he thought of Elvis’ ’68 Comeback Special. “I remember watching it as a kid and thinking, ‘Wow. This is pretty cool,'” he recalled. “He basically hadn’t done any live performing.
“He came back from the Army and was just doing movies,” he said. “Then all this stuff was happening like the British Invasion and the Mod thing and hippies. I think he was like, ‘Where’s my place?’ So he went, ‘I’m Elvis. This is my place.

An Elvis Presley tribute album could feel incomplete without a cover of “Suspicious Minds.” Regardless, Glenn Danzig declined to record the track for his album Danzig Sings Elvis. The rocker explained why he did that and how Elvis changed his life.
Glenn Danzig didn’t cover Elvis Presley’s ‘Suspicions Minds’ because he followed his gut
Danzig released Danzig Sings Elvis in 2020. During a 2020 interview with Rolling Stone, the “Mother” singer was asked to name the first Elvis song he attempted to sing. “The first Elvis song I sang, probably in a garage band, was, like, ‘I Can’t Help Falling in Love With You,’ ‘All Shook Up,’ ‘Hound Dog,'” he said.
Danzig Sings Elvis includes covers of a few famous songs, such as “Fever” and “Always on My Mind.” Despite this, most of the tracks on the album are obscure. Danzig was asked why he steered clear of...

Glenn Danzig has always been inspired by classic rock and he took that to a new level by recording an entire album of Elvis Presley songs. One of the tracks on the album was a rendition of Elvis’ “One Night,” which he had covered before. Notably, Elvis was not the first artist to record “One Night.” The tune’s writer revealed what he thought of the “I Want You, I Need You, I Love You” singer’s rendition.
Glenn Danzig covered Elvis Presley’s ‘One Night’ several times
Danzig first became famous through his punk band The Misfits. Since then, he’s also been part of the groups Samhain and Danzig. With the latter group, he released an Elvis cover album simply called Danzig Sings Elvis. The record includes a recording of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll‘s “One Night.”

Classic rock star Glenn Danzig threw fans a curveball by releasing an entire album of Elvis Presley songs. He said one of the tracks was more challenging to perform than the others. The tune in question was actually composed as a parody. Regardless, the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll put it out during one of the most important epochs of his career.
Glenn Danzig said 1 song proves Elvis Presley’s voice was ‘insane’
During a 2020 interview with Billboard, Danzig discussed his album Danzig Sings Elvis. “It’s not easy singing a lot of Elvis songs, man,” he said. The album includes standards like “Fever” and “Always on My Mind” alongside more obscure tracks such as “Pocketful of Rainbows” and “Young and Beautiful.”
Danzig said the hardest of the bunch to sing was the ballad “Love Me.” “His voice was insane,” Danzig opined. “So to sing it right, you have to...

The Dandy Warhols have unveiled a new single called “Danzig With Myself,” featuring a guest spot by Pixies frontman Black Francis. The song appears on the alt-rock band’s upcoming album, Rockmaker, out March 15th.
Musically, the song has a Pixies vibe, with Francis contributing a fuzzed-out guitar track. Of the song’s title, Dandy Warhol singer Courtney Taylor-Taylor explained, “It started with a riff that either sounded like Misfits or Danzig and then got slowed down.”
He continued, “Over time, it became the working title that was just too good to replace.”
Taylor-Taylor delivers the verses in a deep sing-talk vocal, although not quite as deep as Glenn Danzig, and the dark lyrics serve as another tribute of sorts to the horror-punk icon. The tune starts out with the lines, “Some days it’s just so obvious/ Some days insidious/ But half the people alive today are/ Are fucking idiots.

Manny Martinez, an early drummer for the Misfits, has died as the age of 69.
Depending on the interpretation of the Misfits timeline, Martinez was either the first or second Misfits drummer, forming a lineup with classic members Jerry Only and Glenn Danzig. However, Martinez was definitely the first drummer to appear on an official recording with the band, and actually helped introduce Only and Danzig to one another.
Martinez’s friend Zach Rector shared the news of the drummer’s passing on Facebook:
“Going to miss you Brother Manny Martinez / A true living legend a student of Buddy Rich I remember Manny telling me Multiple occasions of Buddy bringing up his chops while coming up, & his stories of his family’s notorious bar …An Original Misfits period. Glenn Danzig (Verotika) brought his Vampire Spaghetti-Western Death Rider in the House of Vampires to select theaters back in 2021, but it’s been quite a while since we’ve heard a peep about the project. When will you actually be able to watch the movie?
Bloody Disgusting has learned this week that Cleopatra will be releasing Glenn Danzig’s Death Rider in the House of Vampires on DVD and Blu-ray sometime in December 2023!
You can pre-order your copy – various editions are available – right now.
Patrick Bromley wrote in his 2021 review for Bloody Disgusting, “Death Rider in the House of Vampires has all the charm of Verotika, and nearly all of its flaws, too. That’s probably damning praise, encouraging fans of the latter to seek out the former while scaring off those who found Danzig’s first film to be insufferable. Two years after its arrival in theaters, Glenn Danzig‘s horror film Death Rider in the House of Vampires is finally receiving a physical release on DVD and Blu-Ray.
Danzig’s second original feature-length film and self-described “vampire Spaghetti Western” received a limited theatrical release back in August 2021. The veteran rocker wrote, directed, scored, and starred in the film (playing the character Bad Bathory) alongside the likes of Devon Sawa, Julian Sands, Danny Trejo, Eli Roth, and Kim Director.
The plot follows the Death Rider (Sawa), who travels to the desert Vampire Sanctuary, ruled by Count Holliday. The price of admission is “one untouched virgin.” As seen in the Nsfw trailer for the film, the combo of bloodthirst and gunslinging recalls Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s horror shoot-em-up From Dusk Till Dawn, which also features vampires and pistols.

Long before Kevin Feige transformed the blockbuster business via the miraculous 11-year Avengers saga that began with 2008's "Iron Man" and ended with 2019's "Avengers: Endgame," he was an assistant to producer Lauren Shuler Donner on non-superheroic fare like "Volcano" and "You've Got Mail." The USC film school grad had an encyclopedic knowledge of comics and "Star Wars," but everyone's got to start somewhere, and working for the wife of Richard Donner, the man who directed one of the greatest superhero hero movies of all time in 1979's "Superman," was a heck of a lot better than waiting tables at Barney's Beanery.
As fortune would have it, Lauren Shuler Donner had purchased the movie rights to Marvel Comics' ultra-popular X-Men, and, after years of development stumbles and false starts that saw folks as disparate as Russell Crowe, Bob Hoskins, and Glenn Danzig considered for the pivotal role of Wolverine, Donner...

Nearly two years have gone by since we heard anything about Death Rider in the House of Vampires, the second feature directorial effort from musician Glenn Danzig (following the infamous 2019 horror anthology Verotika – watch it Here). At that time, the film was receiving a 200+ screen theatrical release in the United States… but after that theatrical run, the movie disappears. Now Screen Daily reports that Vmi Worldwide is presenting Death Rider in the House of Vampires to potential distributors at the Cannes Film Market – so if deals are secured there, more of us will have a chance to see the movie soon.
Scripted by Danzig, who also composed the score, Death Rider in the House of Vampires is a Spaghetti Western where every single character is a vampire. The story centers on the Death Rider, who travels to the desert Vampire Sanctuary ruled by Count Holliday. The price of admission… one untouched virgin.

Star Trek hasn’t always been great about introducing new characters in legacy stories. Sure, Lieutenant Saavik was pretty great, at least in her first incarnation, but no one wanted to see more of David or William Dekker (bullet dodged on that last one). But like an odd-numbered Trek movie that everyone loves, Star Trek: Picard‘s Captain Liam Shaw has broken the mold. The cantankerous Captain of the USS Titan has whistled his way into our hearts, with his jazz-hating, protocol-loving, Picard-down-putting ways.
So even as members of the Picard creative team play will they/won’t they with the possibility of continuing the show beyond its planned third and final season, fans have been calling for a USS Titan series featuring Shaw at the helm. The idea of seeing the prim and proper Shaw complain his way through more Star Trek-style adventures is just too good to resist,...

Exclusive: Cleopatra Entertainment has acquired North American rights to Argentinian director and producer Nicolas Onetti’s slasher picture What The Waters Left Behind: Scars.
The picture is the sequel to Onetti’s 2017 horror hit What The Waters Left Behind about a group of youngsters whose plan to shoot a documentary about the real-life, abandoned, lakeside spa resort of Epecuén takes a terrifying turn.
The new film revisits Epecuén and follows an Anglo-American indie rock band that ends up stranded in the desolate city. Their internal conflicts and the bad luck of their tour quickly fade, when they begin to discover the bloody hell that awaits them.
Camilio Zaffora wrote the screenplays for the original and its sequel.
The drama stars social media influencer David Michigan, Mario Alarcón (The Secret In Their Eyes), Magui Bravi (The 100 Candles Game) and German Baudino (History of The Occult).

Johnny Cash made a name for himself as a country music star, and traditional gospel hymns were some of the earliest songs he learned. He once said his favorite album was his record of songs from his mother’s hymn book. Yet Cash praised heavy metal bands and included them on the list of music he appreciated. The Man in Black called out would-be music censors stalking the warpath in the 1980s.

Rick Rubin helped revive Cash’s career in the 1990s. The producer reached out to the country music legend with a simple request — play the songs you want to play. Their collaboration led to a series of albums titled after Rubin’s record label, American Recordings.
The first record, American Recordings, included Cash’s cover of punk/metal star Glenn Danzig’s “Thirteen.

It's wild to remember a time when making a superhero movie wasn't a safe bet. It's perhaps even more wild to think back to a time when certain comic fans were upset about Hugh Jackman's casting as Wolverine because the then-unknown Australian actor was too tall. It's true that the Wolverine of Marvel Comics isn't nearly as tall or as handsome as Jackman, but why shouldn't Wolvie get the Hollywood treatment?
These days it's impossible to imagine anyone else in the role Jackman so fully embodied for nearly two decades. In fact, the recent news of his return to the part in the upcoming "Deadpool 3" caused quite a stir. While some fans were over the moon, others were nervous that reprising the role would cheapen Wolverine's swan song in 2017's "Logan."

Indie artist foulperalta has gone viral for his tongue-in-cheek take on retro band tees, reimagining the musical artists with pop culture characters and memes. The artist’s “Spicoli Cobain” tee, which juxtaposes Sean Penn’s character from Fast Times at Ridgemont High with the iconic Nirvana logo, may be his best-known piece, but there are dozens of other designs available to buy now.

Howie Pyro, a founding member of New York City punk band D Generation, pioneering party DJ, and avid collector of music and movie ephemera, died Wednesday. He was 61. Pyro had undergone a liver transplant last year and was recovering in a Los Angeles hospital. Jesse Dayton spent Halloween onstage at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, playing Elvis Presley songs behind Glenn Danzig. It’s the kind of oddball convergence of personalities and styles that could only find its way to Dayton, an outspoken Texas singer, songwriter, and guitarist who has collaborated with everyone from Misfits Glenn to “Rhinestone Cowboy” Glen.
“Glenn’s an old-school rock star. He bought everyone in the crowd a Voodoo Doughnut with an upside-down pentagram on it — something Glen Campbell would never,” Dayton says.

I’m not sure what’s more surprising, that I’m reviewing a movie called Death Rider in the House of Vampires or that, after Verotika, somebody put up money for Glenn Danzig to make another movie. But here we are.
As the film opens Death Rider is riding through a desert filled with warning signs and crucified bodies. He leads another horse, with a bound, topless woman on it. She is his entrance fee to Sanctuary, one female virgin. She looks like she probably couldn’t remember when she actually was a virgin but that’s besides the point.

With Dwayne Johnson’s big-budget Jungle Cruise due out from Disney soon, The Asylum was sure to be ready with their own cash in. And sure enough, here comes Jungle Run starring Richard Grieco and a bunch of people you’ve probably never heard of before fighting creatures rendered with questionable CGI.
Lebecq captain’s a charter boat in Brazil. Like all jungle boat captains, he drinks heavily and leaves everything to his crew Sark (Benjamin Bernard; Messiah) and Teese (Christian DeJesus). Despite offering private charters he’s managed to charter his boat out to both Amanda and Vera (Jamie Petitto; Geek USA).
Amanda and her brother Scott (Jack Pearson; Shark Season) are searching for their missing father Nathan. Vera runs the company that sent him into the jungle.

During the past year, the virtual jam — wherein a group of artists each claim their own corner of a 16:9 YouTube screen to rock out in isolation, together — has become as ubiquitous as Zoom conference calls, online schooling, and any other pandemic-era activity. Pearl Jam did it for Covid relief. The Rolling Stones did it for Global Citizen. Metallica did it very quietly. But few virtual jams have been as relentlessly creative and consistently surprising — not to mention flat-out awesome — as the ones featured in metal-themed talk show Two Minutes...

Glenn Danzig is getting anxious for a return to “normal.” A year ago, the heavy-metal singer turned horror filmmaker was editing his new feature, a blood-soaked “vampire spaghetti Western” called Death Rider in the House of Vampires, when the Covid-19 pandemic forced the world into lockdown. Now that the film is complete, and quarantine protocols are loosening up, he’s hoping to get it into theaters within the next couple of months.
“We’ve already got a plan to go to theaters with it around the country,” he says one day in late March.

The new HBO Max drama is all-in for Gen-z. Like most teenage stories, the characters are grappling with their sexuality, friendships, relationships, and family, but this series dives deeper into the complexities of our modern era. From new, evolving technology to changing gender norms, the social landscape is as diverse as the teens’ identities. While they embrace what makes them who they are, the conservative town they call home prefers to keep conversations quiet – especially as it relates to sexuality. (March 11th)

Billy Corgan tried fan service on the Smashing Pumpkins’ last album, 2018’s Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1 — which saw the reunion of three-quarters of the band’s grunge glory-days lineup — but he must have decided half-hearted nostalgia wasn’t worth the hassle after the record got a tepid response.
The Pumpkins’ latest, Cyr, features the same lineup as Shiny and Oh So Bright, but it feels more like a Corgan solo album. The principal Pumpkin produced the record himself and wrote all of its songs, which the band played mostly on synthesizers.
