Nothing gold can stay, and to make room for everything new at Hulu in November, we have to say goodbye to dozens of the series and movies on the platform. The streamer will make room for its upcoming Christmas library by losing some of its horror-themed titles throughout the month, including “Stephen King's It,” most of its “Saw” franchise, and “Shaun Of The Dead.” Other major titles leaving the platform include Emma Stone’s breakthrough comedy “Easy A,” the Nora Ephron classic “Sleeping in Seattle,” and more.

Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to an additional 16 years in prison Thursday after the disgraced producer was found guilty of one count of rape and two counts of sexual assault at his Los Angeles trial in December.
At his sentencing hearing Thursday, LA County Judge Lisa Lench sentenced Weinstein to 16 years in prison, to be served at the conclusion of his 23-year prison term he’s currently serving after being convicted on charges in New York.

For almost 30 years, the Oldenburg Film Festival has been championing a very specific flavor of fiercely independent cinema.
Equally inspired by the New Hollywood genre films of the 1970s and the bootstraps indie cinema of the 1990s, Oldenburg has carved out a niche unlike any of the major international festivals. Instead of playing the same fall festival hits as Cannes, Venice and Toronto, Oldenburg continues to spotlight overlooked or forgotten movies that don’t fit the industry’s familiar categories.
For the 29th festival, which runs Sept. 14-18, The Hollywood Reporter took a look back at five indie gems from Oldenburg’s weird and wonderful history.

Harvey Weinstein had a mixed day in court Wednesday as he speeds toward the scheduled October start of his serial rape trial in Los Angeles.
Lawyers for the disgraced movie mogul scored a victory when Judge Lisa B. Lench sided with the defense and rejected one of the five “prior bad acts” accusers whom prosecutors planned to call to the witness stand to show Weinstein’s alleged “propensity” for criminal behavior.

This year’s Sf Indiefest, San Francisco’s first independent film festival of the year, will take place virtually from February 4-21, 2021. This year’s selection includes 42 shorts and 38 features from 20 countries. Two of the three world premieres are, notably, Asian selections – including Bay Area Asian-American production “Girl in Golden Gate Park” and spicy Japanese fiction “Body Remember”. Other notables include the film festival’s only international premiere, “Roll” — which had previously premiered in the Nara International Film Festival — a reckless coming-of-age film caught between celluloid and of course, a romantic interest.

The stories are legion, and they are remarkably similar. Some begin in a Buffalo, New York, concert hall in 1978; others in a five-star hotel in Venice in 1998. But it usually starts with a seemingly benign offer of help, or a friendly chat, or a meeting about the next step in someone’s career. Then maybe, suddenly, there’s only one room on a business trip because of a booking “mistake.” Or a lunch meeting mysteriously gets moved to a penthouse suite. Or an insistence that this man, a modern-day movie...

The summer of 2018 produced three documentaries that earned over $10 million at the domestic box office. While this summer didn’t get quite as close, this fall has documentary releases about rock stars, athletes and even one posthumous release from an auteur. New films by Bruce Springsteen, Agnès Varda and Asif Kapadia could help make for a busy season for non-fiction cinema, with many more potentially on the way from the fall festival circuit. Here are 10 with impending releases you need to check out.

"He thought of himself as the sheriff in town." Hulu has revealed the official trailer for the documentary titled Untouchable, which initially premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. The film is a look at the rise and fall of disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, featuring interviews with former colleagues and those who accused him of sexual misconduct. It's an attempt at telling the story of the "untouchable" Harvey and how his years of sexual abuse and harassment finally caught up with him in the "#MeToo era", causing him to be ousted from his own company and (hopefully) convicted in court. The film contains testimonies from several victims, including Rosanna Arquette, Paz de la Huerta, Caitlin Dulany, and Erika Rosenbaum, as well as journalist Ronan Farrow who originally broke the big story. A major film. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Ursula Macfarlane's doc Untouchable, from Hulu's...

There’s a reason why you’ve probably never heard of Erika Rosenbaum. An attractive, intelligent, and ostensibly talented Canadian actress who stepped off the bus in Los Angeles with nothing but a dream to her name, Rosenbaum was no less prepared or deserving than any of the legendary screen idols who had inspired her to reach for the stars. Lana Turner was famously discovered at a malt shop, so why not her? Twenty years later, Rosenbaum’s most prestigious role to date is Bartocci Customer #2 in “Brooklyn.” Before that, she was Pregnant Mom in “The Smurfs 2” and Cashier in a TV movie called “Abducted: Fugitive for Love.” But while it’s true that a prayer and a pretty smile aren’t enough to guarantee a successful career in show business, there’s reason to believe that she never had a fair shot at having one.

The world premiere tonight at the Sundance Film Festival of the Harvey Weinstein documentary Untouchable didn’t mention the Park City gathering itself where the now disgraced producer held court for years but some drama of its own.
Initially delayed by “technical difficulties,” as one Sundance staff told the line of hundreds waiting to get in, the Marc Theatre screening itself was actually interrupted three times on Friday to the obvious irritation of attendees. On each occasion and with no explanation given, the house lights came up in full for nearly 20 seconds as the Ursula Macfarlane directed film played to groans from the packed venue.
Filled with paparazzi footage of self-described NYC “sheriff” Weinstein threatening and cajoling with cameramen over the years, the film doesn’t unveiled anything new. The fairly comprehensive effort does feature heartbreaking on-camera interviews with alleged victims such as Boardwalk Empire alum Paz de la Huerta.

A sexual assault case against Harvey Weinstein will still go to trial after New York judge James Burke shot down an attempt by Weinstein’s lawyers to have the case dismissed on Thursday, according to ABC News.
It clears the way for prosectors to try Weinstein, who faces five counts, including rape. He’s accused of raping a woman in a New York hotel room in 2013 and forcibly performing oral sex on another woman at his Manhattan apartment in 2006. Burke now says pre-trial hearings will take place on March 7.

Harvey Weinstein’s legal entanglements grew this week, as the disgraced film mogul was sued by a woman who said Weinstein masturbated in front of her while she was using the bathroom and ejaculated onto her skirt, and, in another instance, “forcibly performed oral sex” on her.
The suit, filed Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, says that the Jane Doe plaintiff first met Weinstein in January 2013 during the Sundance Film Festival, where she gave him her card in case there were opportunities for auditions.
The next day, the suit says, Weinstein invited her to his hotel suite, ostensibly to discuss a potential film. According to the suit, the plaintiff went to the restroom during the meeting and, while she was sitting on the toilet with her tights around her ankles, Weinstein walked in on her, unbuttoned his jeans, dropped his pants and “exposed his penis while telling her, ‘I like looking at you,...

As Harvey Weinstein’s legal woes continue, the Manhattan district attorney’s office decided to not charge the disgraced producer with the financial crimes associated with the sexual assault settlements.
According to Weinstein’s attorney, Ben Brafman, the Manhattan Da has decided not to pursue a fraud case and will no longer be looking into whether or not Weinstein used company resources to pay his alleged victims.

Lawsuit claims movie producer raped De la Huerta twice, taunted her and damaged her career
The actor Paz de la Huerta filed a lawsuit Tuesday accusing Harvey Weinstein of raping her in 2010 and then embarking on a campaign of harassment that harmed her career.
The lawsuit filed in Los Angeles superior court alleges Weinstein raped De la Huerta twice in New York in December 2010, taunting her with phone calls between the two assaults. New York police said a year ago that they were investigating De la Huerta’s allegations. No charges have been filed in the case, but Weinstein is charged there with the rape of another woman.

Former mogul’s attorney dismisses claims as ‘preposterous’.
The former Boardwalk Empire actor Paz de la Huerta has compounded Harvey Weinstein’s legal woes, filing a $60m suit in California that claims the former Hollywood mogul raped her twice, taunted her, and ultimately damaged her career.
De la Huerta alleged last year that Weinstein raped her twice in New York in December 2010, however after the New York Police Department investigated the claim it did not bring charges.

Actress Paz de la Huerta has filed a lawsuit against Harvey Weinstein, saying that the disgraced producer sexually assaulted her twice and sought to destroy her career in retaliation against her.
In the suit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday, de la Huerta said that she encountered Weinstein in December 2010 at a Manhattan lounge, where they were both attending a party for The Weinstein Company film “Blue Valentine.”
The suit said that Weinstein, the actress’ neighbor at the time, offered her a ride home and “insisted on” coming up to her apartment to avoid discussing business and personal matters in her public lobby.
“Once inside of de la Huerta’s apartment, Weinstein made warnings to de la Huerta about harm to her career if she did not submit to sex, then forced himself on de la Huerta and raped de la Huerta,” the suit reads. “Defendant Weinstein taunted...

As the countdown continues to a pivotal hearing next month that might determine the future of the criminal case against Harvey Weinstein and whether he’ll face life behind bars, a new lawsuit today adds more allegations against the disgraced producer from Boardwalk Empire alum Paz de la Huerta.
“Plaintiff alleges that Weinstein opened the door, wearing an opened bathrobe thereby prominently exposing his penis to Plaintiff in a taunting manner,” said a filing today in Los Angeles Superior Court of alleged events at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills on January 5, 2011.
“Plaintiff also observed another woman undressed in the room and was then invited by Weinstein to participate in a three party sexual encounter,” the jury-seeking filing adds about an incident that came after what de la Huerta has previously said were two occasions in which Weinstein raped her in New York City in 2010. “Plaintiff told Defendant Weinstein to...

10:01 Am Pt -- Weinstein's attorney, Benjamin Brafman, "It is our understanding that the Manhattan District Attorney's Office carefully reviewed Ms. De la Huerta's claims of sexual assault by Mr Weinstein many months ago and made a conscious decision to reject her as a complainant for obvious reasons." He continues, "We also believe that her newly minted version of events including her new California claims are equally preposterous and unfortunately, the product of an unstable personality with a vivid imagination.

Hollywood stars such as Rose McGowan, Terry Crews, and Olivia Munn have joined forces to publish an open letter defending Asia Argento in the wake of online accusations accusing her of causing Anthony Bourdain’s death. Bourdain was found unconscious on June 8 in his hotel room in France, where he had been filming an episode of “Parts Unknown.” His death was later ruled a suicide.
The letter, published by the Los Angeles Times, condemns the “vicious cyberbullying and repulsive slander” Argento has faced in the weeks since Bourdain’s tragic passing. The letter explains the actress and activist has been “accused of everything from causing her boyfriend’s suicide to trying to use her ‘survivor status’ and the #MeToo movement to advance her career.”
“There has long been a traditional narrative of blaming, vilifying and martyring courageous women. We reject that narrative,” the letter states. “If there is one thing we know with unwavering confidence,...

“A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is purportedly the most-produced of all the Bard’s plays, but neither that nugget nor its cinematically friendly fantasy elements has done it many favors on film. Hollywood’s most famous stab was a notorious flop — stage titan Max Reinhardt’s garish 1935 Warner Bros. extravaganza featuring such unlikely (and highly variable) Shakespearean actors as Dick Powell, James Cagney, Mickey Rooney and Joe E. Brown. An almost equally starry 1999 effort, shot in Italy with Kevin Kline, Michelle Pfeiffer, Calista Flockhart and Christian Bale, wasn’t much better.
Since then there’s been the lamentably self-explanatory “A Midsummer Night’s Rave,” and the inexplicable “Strange Magic,” one Disney cartoon that children of all ages found easy to resist. That’s 80 years of evidence suggesting “Dream” might best be left sleeping by American filmmakers.
All the more surprising, then, that director-adapter Casey Wilder Mott’s debut feature proves...

An open letter signed by more than 40 people, most of them female celebrities but including male actor and abuse victim Terry Crews, has called on the public to stop blaming actress Asia Argento for the suicide of celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain.
The letter, published Thursday by the Los Angeles Times, claimed Argento “has now found herself on the receiving end of vicious cyberbullying and repulsive slander at the hands of internet trolls who hold her responsible for Anthony’s death.”
The note also said that Argento has been accused by online commenters of using the #MeToo movement and Bourdain’s suicide to advance her career.
The letter’s signatories included Crews; actresses Rosanna Arquette, Paz de la Huerta, Natasha Henstridge, Oliva Munn, and Mira Sorvino; and Fox reporter Lauren Sivan, who was one of the first women to go public with an accusation against disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein.

Mira Sorvino is not celebrating the end of Harvey Weinstein just yet. Appearing on “Today” this morning for her first televised interview since coming forward with her own allegations against Harvey Weinstein last year, and the Oscar-winning actress offered a hopeful, if pragmatic answer as to how she felt seeing the former producer arrested and arraigned late last month.
“He has raped many people that I love, so it’s not really a happy occasion,” she said. “I think maybe there will be some celebration when he gets convicted and goes to jail. That is when the process will be complete and we will see justice really being served. But until then, this is a great first step.” Sorvino added, “It feels like a really good first step, it’s him finally facing real, real criminal consequences for his criminal behavior. Five days after being arraigned and posting $1 million bail, Harvey Weinstein was indicted Wednesday by a Manhattan grand jury, Variety reports. The former Miramax and Weinstein Company co-chairman now formally faces two rape charges — one first-degree, one third-degree — plus one charge for criminal sexual acts. If found guilty, the 66-year-old could earn up to 25 years imprisonment.
New York County District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. said in a statement, “This indictment brings the defendant another step closer to accountability for the crimes of violence with which he is now charged. Our office will try this case not in the press, but in the courtroom where it belongs. The defendant’s recent assault on the integrity of the survivors and the legal process is predictable. We are confident that when the jury hears the evidence, it will reject these attacks out of hand.”

The arrest of Harvey Weinstein feels like the beginning of what justice should look like for his accusers. It’s also symbolic for survivors of sexual violence everywhere that a person of his stature has to answer for his actions. It provides hope for other people that they might have some recourse in their everyday lives. That’s one of the most powerful things about this moment.
I don’t think, however, that this is a moment to revel in how the mighty have fallen. It’s really about the power of community and the power of survivors of sexual violence raising their voices and standing together. It wasn’t one claim. It wasn’t one singular voice. It was a chorus of voices that started rising little by little and crescendoed into this massive chorus. It resulted in what we saw today. And let’s not forget to say...

Annabella Sciorra, who has accused Harvey Weinstein of raping her in the early 1990s, got little relief from seeing him in court on Friday. Though she’s glad that “the law finally caught up” with him, the Emmy-nominated actress said in a series of tweets that “nothing about that felt celebratory to me” because, unlike defendants with less money and fewer resources, Weinstein was allowed to return to “his other hunting ground” until his next court appearance.
“The smirk on his face as he was led out of the police station in cuffs made me physically sick. The public statement from his lawyer was intended only to denigrate all the brave women who came forward and spoke out against him,” Sciorra wrote.

Harvey Weinstein had what’s likely to be his first of many days in court on Friday, and reactions have been expectedly unsympathetic. Asia Argento and Rose McGowan were gleeful, Ashley Judd called it “a watershed event,” and Paz de la Huerta — who, like the other three women, is among Weinstein’s many, many accusers — “couldn’t stop crying.” If her sketches are any indication, it would appear that courtroom artist Jane Rosenberg doesn’t feel too bad for the disgraced former mogul either.
As seen below, Rosenberg — who also created a famous likeness of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady during the “Deflategate” scandal — emphasized Weinstein’s rotund frame and made his facial features borderline monstrous. Weinstein spoke only one word during his 10-minute arraignment — “Yes” — which he was handcuffed for the duration of. He agreed to pay $1 million in bail and left shortly thereafter.

Paz de la Huerta, who has accused Harvey Weinstein of raping her twice in 2010, had an understandably emotional reaction to news of the disgraced former mogul’s arrest yesterday: tears. “I just felt extremely emotional today,” the actress tells Vanity Fair in an interview. “I couldn’t stop crying. I don’t know why. It should be a day of celebration, but I feel melancholic about it all.”
De la Huerta currently lives in France, but plans to return to New York in order to be interviewed by prosecutors. “Anything that will put him in jail will make me happy, but it’s important to me that my voice is heard. I’m happy we’re closer to justice. But I feel my case is being overlooked and not taken as seriously, and that upsets me,” she adds.
“It’s complicated. Part of me is very happy, and part of me is sad.

Updated: Disgraced mogul Harvey Weinstein was formally arrested and charged Friday with rape and other acts of sexual misconduct, the latest development in the stunning downfall of a powerful producer whose taste and bullying persona once defined independent film.
Weinstein’s bond was set by a Manhattan court at $10 million. He paid $1 million in a cashier’s check to post bail, and agreed not to travel outside of New York State and Connecticut without advance permission from the court. He also agreed to wear a Gps-enabled monitoring device.
Wearing a dark jacket and clutching a small stack of books, Weinstein, 66, turned himself in to police in downtown New York shortly before 7:30 a.m., at a precinct besieged by reporters and news cameras. An hour later, just before 9 a.m., he left the police station in handcuffs.

Harvey Weinstein was arrested on Friday in New York City on charges of rape, criminal sex act, sex abuse and sexual misconduct stemming from a months-long investigation by the NYPD into accusations by multiple women.
Though the Hollywood mogul has been accused of misconduct by more than 80 women, the criminal charges by New York prosecutors stem from the accusations of two women. The first-degree criminal sex act charge comes from a case involving aspiring actress Lucia Evans, according to law enforcement officials. We do not yet know who filed the complaint that led to the rape charge.
Weinstein will be released on $1 million bail. He will have to wear a monitoring device around his ankle, and is expected to surrender his passport and have restrictions placed on his travel.
