Film about the Australian musical phenomenon, who are akin to the Beatles for toddlers, is bubbly and insightful, if a tad long
As a longtime admirer of the hit song Hot Potato, a profoundly poetic if slightly repetitive celebration of simple cuisine and the temperature at which it can be served, I was excited to have its origins unpacked in a new film exploring its creators.
Early in, Sally Aitken’s bubbly and quite well-made documentary about the Wiggles – the phenomenally successful troupe up there with Bluey and Bananas in Pyjamas as Australia’s biggest family friendly exports – we hear a soundbite of the veteran interviewer Andrew Denton suggesting that these barmy, toot-tooting, Shimmie Shaking entertainers ought to be taken seriously.

It all started back in 2005 at the G'Day USA gala. But instead of Nicole being the one to play hard to get, Keith was the one who actually gave some pushback. "I thought she was way out of my league. I'm a kid from Brissy and somewhere along the line I ended up meeting Nic. Not in a million years did I think I would end up with her," Keith confessed during a new candid interview with Andrew Denton, according to Now To Love. Actor Guy Pearce regrets going public with allegations that Kevin Spacey was “handsy” during filming of 1997’s L.A. Confidential, and has released a statement to Australian press expressing his second thoughts.
“I very much understand that it’s too sensitive a topic to be brushed off,” Pearce said in a statement to the Sydney Morning Herald. “I addressed and handled the situation when it took place, hence my regret at making it public now.”
Last week, the Australian TV news show Interview, hosted by Andrew Denton, released a sneak peek of the July 3 episode in which Pearce, asked by Denton about working with Spacey on the ’97 film, told the interviewer: “Tough one to talk about at the moment. Amazing actor. Incredible actor. Slightly difficult time with Kevin, yeah. He’s a handsy guy. Thankfully I was 29, and not 14.”

Guy Pearce wants to clarify his remarks about Kevin Spacey acting "handsy" around him. On an episode of Andrew Denton's show Interview earlier this week, Pearce said Spacey, his co-star L.A. Confidential, was an "amazing" and "incredible" actor but that he had a "slightly difficult time" with him, saying, "he's a handsy guy...Thankfully I was 29 and not 14." His remarks come months after more than a dozen men accused Spacey of sexual misconduct. Pearce told Australia's Fairfax Media he wished to clarify his comments regarding Spacey, saying that while he was not sexually assaulted, he was made to feel...

Kevin Spacey is facing investigation over two new allegations of sexual assault and one of assault, according to reports by the BBC today. London's Metropolitan Police, who have not formally confirmed their suspect's name, are looking into incidents said to have taken place in Westminster, Lambeth and Gloucester between 1996 and 2013.
Spacey, who was cut from Ridley Scott's All The Money In The World after accusations against him first broke in October 2017, is already being investigated by the Met in relation to three other sexual assault allegations. The new developments come just a day after actor Guy Pearce, who worked with him on L.A. Confidential, told Australian TV host Andrew Denton that working with Spacey had been difficult, describing him as "a handsy guy."

Guy Pearce opened up about working with Kevin Spacey on the set of 1997’s “L.A. Confidential,” calling the actor a “handsy guy.”
“Yeah… Tough one to talk about at the moment,“ Pearce said in a recent interview with Australian talk show host Andrew Denton. ”Amazing actor, incredible actor. Slightly difficult time with Kevin, yeah. He’s a handsy guy. Thankfully I was 29 and not 14.”
Spacey was first accused of sexual misconduct in October 2017 by Anthony Rapp, who alleges the Oscar-winning actor forced himself on Rapp when he was 14 and Spacey was 26. Spacey responded at the time saying he had no memory of the encounter and came out as a gay man.
Similar accounts of alleged misconduct were soon corroborated by other colleagues of Spacey’s, including the “House of Cards” production crew, resulting in his firing from the hit Netflix show. Amid the fallout, he was also replaced in Ridley Scott...

Talented actor, “handsy” guy, is how Guy Pearce described his L.A. Confidential co-star Kevin Spacey during an Australian TV interview set to air today.
“Yeah…yeah,” Pearce said on the talk show Interview when host Andrew Denton asked him about Spacey. According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Pearce continued, “Tough one to talk about at the moment. Amazing actor; incredible actor. Mmm. Slightly difficult time with Kevin, yeah.
“He’s a handsy guy. Thankfully I was 29 and not 14,” continued Pearce, making an obvious reference to actor Anthony Rapp, who has said he was assaulted by then-26-year-old Spacey when Rapp was 14. Spacey would have been around 37 or 38 to Pearce’s 29 while shooting the 1997 L.A. Confidential.

The failure of Andrew Denton’s word game comedy Randling to find an audience was partly because of the cost cutting process the ABC put the show through, MD Mark Scott has conceded.
The show, in the ABC’s key 8.30pm Wednesday night comedy slot, struggled to reach a metro audience of 600,000. Its final week, by which time it had moved to 9.30pm, it rated just 434,000.
But the entire 27-episode series was shot before any of it was aired, leaving no opportunity for Denton’s production house Zapruder’s Other Films to develop the format in response to audience reaction.
Scott told Mumbrella’s sister title Encore: “One of the things we did with Randling that we learned from, and this was partly a budget thing, was that we locked all that away. It was all locked away before it went to air. If we had been broadcasting it as we were making it,...

The Chaser’s media and news analysis show The Hamster Wheel returned last night, slightly down in the ratings on last year’s debut.
The team’s opening sketch, a mocking show tune, lampooned not only themselves but ABC1′s struggling Wednesday line-up including mentor Andrew Denton’s Randling, Shaun Micallef’s Mad as Hell and Qi as well as ratings winners such as The Voice and Howzat.
The ABC1 comedy, which aired at 9.10pm, averaged 784,000 viewers across the five city metro markets according to preliminary ratings from OzTam. It was 12th for the night.
Last year’s premiere, which aired at 9.30pm, rated 857,000 and placed 10th for the night. Both season debuts aired after Gruen Planet.
The Hamster Wheel was seventh in 16-39 and eighth in 18-49 and 25-54.
The team also used music and the subject of ratings to promote their season return, parodying Coles’ ‘Down Down’ ad with Status Quo.

The Chaser team are not overly fond of bland press releases. Even if the alternative they offer tends to be something of a flight of fantasy.
The news of The Chaser reuniting with once-mentor Andrew Denton and his recently-formed Cordell Jigsaw Zapruder production company started out plausible before escalating to the ludicrous:
The Chaser team’s production company Giant Dwarf has announced it will join forces with Cordell Jigsaw Zapruder in a bid to become a new super-indie television powerhouse.
The move follows the merger last February between Cordell Jigsaw and Zapruder’s Other Films, which resulted in the new company Cordell Jigsaw Zapruder. With today’s addition of Giant Dwarf to the fold, the company will now be known as Giant Cordell Jigsaw Zapruder Dwarf.
“This is all about creating a platform so that local independent production companies can compete with the major multinationals like Fremantle and Shine,” said...

I always thought that being a footballer must be one of the worst jobs in the world. Having thousands of people watching you up close and howling at your every error.
If I tried to cope with that in my day job, my spelling would be even worse than it is already.
But being a TV programmer must be worse.
There aren’t many gigs where millions of people judge your work every single day.
Every morning at 8.30am, the ratings come through – and we all find out if they are dunces or geniuses.
Right now, it’s the turn of Ten’s David Mott in the firing line. This year, he took a chance on several new pieces of Australian-made programming and so far most of them have not fired.
Which leaves the network struggling for audience share and facing dreadful headlines.
I’m part of that problem, by the way.

I met Andrew in the early 1990s because I used to work with Jen Byrne, his other half, at 60 Minutes. I did a lot of stories with her so I met Andrew socially.
In 1995 I was asked by Seven to produce a one-hour special on Kevin Costner and Andrew and I worked fairly closely on that. Then in about 1999, when I was executive producing an interview show for Foxtel hosted by John Laws, I asked Andrew to come on as a guest. He did and was probably one of our best interviews in the three years.
I also asked him to be a guest at one of Foxtel.s seminars at which professionals in the industry talk about how they got started, what they like about the industry and so on. I got to know him more then too.

Michael Cordell, executive producer of production company Cordell Jigsaw, has hit back at a Daily Telegraph article that accused the production company of not paying key cast of an observational documentary.
Cordell was accused of not paying the 33 individual lifeguards that appear on his show Bondi Rescue, now in its seventh season on Ten, despite the production being a documentary and doing so would create a conflict of interest within the production.
Cordell said in a statement: “We have huge respect for the boys down at Bondi and weʼve made every effort to ensure theyʼre part of Bondi Rescueʼs success.”
“It would be a conflict of interest to actually employ the lifeguards to appear in the series. Nor would Waverley Council ever permit it. However, there are very concrete agreements in place that benefit both the Council and the lifeguards.”
Similar shows like Rpa, Border Security, The Force and Recruits...

A sequel to last year.s successful low-budget horror film The Tunnel is currently in the works.
The sequel . titled The Tunnel: Dead End . received development funding from Screen Australia earlier this month and will pick up the story years down the track. No shoot date has been set for the horror flick.
It.s a sequel creators Enzo Tedeschi and Julian Harvey weren.t planning on. .Initially, we weren.t anticipating doing another Tunnel film but the overwhelmingly positive reaction to the original . as well as our fans clamouring for another on an almost daily basis . made us go back and give it a second thought,. Tedeschi and Harvey, of Distracted Media, said in a joint statement.
.We weren't going to go ahead unless we could find a story we were 100 per cent behind, which we now have, and are thrilled to have the support of Screen Australia.
