He was the only Sliders (1995) cast member to stay with the series throughout its entire run. Consequently, he was the only actor to appear in all five seasons and all 88 episodes.
His father, Cleavant Derricks, Sr. wrote the Christian hymn "Just a
Little Talk with Jesus" in 1937.
Won Broadway's 1982 Tony Award as Best Actor (Featured Role - Musical)
for "Dreamgirls." In 1986, he received a Best Actor (Musical) Tony
nomination for "Big Deal."
He was nominated for a 2006 NAACP Theatre Award for Best Lead Male (Equity) for "Like Jazz" in presentation with association with Transamerica at the Mark Taper Forum Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
