Began his career in TV as an associate producer of the Gothic soap opera Dark Shadows (1966). He also served as an assistant to the producer of the feature film House of Dark Shadows (1970). From there he moved into acting.
He made guest appearances on both of the longest running prime time dramas in US television history: Gunsmoke (1955) and Law & Order (1990).
Taught acting in New York and in Philadelphia, and lived in Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania with his wife, Donna Artz. He had three stepchildren by his prior marriage to Donna Ehlert.
