More than two decades later, it’s hard to imagine anyone but Devon Sawa playing the titular role in the unforgettable music video for Eminem’s 2000 classic, “Stan,” but the actor has revealed Macaulay Culkin was the first choice to star in the visual.
“They went out to Macaulay Culkin first,” Sawa told Entertainment Tonight in a recent interview. “I think that they wanted him, and he wasn’t available, or didn’t want to do it or whatever.”
Thankfully for Sawa, Dr. Dre (who directed the video) was a fan of his work in Final Destination and suggested him instead. “There happened to be somebody in the casting office that knew somebody who was friends with me, and they called me that way… and it ended up working out pretty good,” Sawa explained, adding that the video was “one of the proudest things I’ve been a part of.

You’d be forgiven for being surprised that Jason Derulo hadn’t released an album since 2015’s Everything Is 4. In the nine years since that full-length’s release, Derulo has kept himself in the public eye, whether through his Tiktoks or his steady stream of singles; his fizzy collaboration with the New Zealand producer Jawsh 685 “Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat” even reached No. 1 on the Hot 100 in 2020, thanks in part to a clutch assist from BTS.
That gap helps explain in part the length of Nu King, Derulo’s fifth album.

Eminem is fittingly set to co-produce, and be the partial focus of, a new documentary about obsessive superfans, tentatively (and obviously) titled Stans.
As Variety reports, the new project was directed by Steven Leckart, and uses Eminem and “the fans that worship him” as a launching point for what’s described as a “revealing, edgy, and disarmingly personal journey into the world of superfandom.” Stans is apparently just the working title — named, of course, for Eminem and Dido’s 2000 hit “Stan” about an obsessive, delusional fan — but it’s hard...

It’s Doctor Who’s 60th year, it’s a time of celebration, and sometimes we like to celebrate by getting granular. Any fool can write a Top 60 Stories list, we’re breaking it down further. The plan is be ranking single frames by 2063.
As it’s a time of celebration, we cordially invite you all to join in by listing your top 60 episodes in the comments. Eat some Celebrations. Play some Kool and the Gang. We can go back to complaining about Doctor Who later, for now let’s try to focus on this extraordinary children’s show featuring a genocidal maverick as its hero, and how mint it is. Because it is, really, I don’t think we mention that enough. This could actually be on telly in 2063.
Very scientific process behind this list: they’re the 60 best Doctor Who TV episodes, listed in chronological order.

Ed Sheeran surprised his concert audience with an appearance by Eminem on Saturday, July 15. The singer and rapper performed two songs together: “Lose Yourself” and “Stan.”
Ed Sheeran told his audience he was going to perform a cover of an Eminem song
Sheeran posted a video to his Instagram account of the moment he surprised his audience with Eminem. In a break between songs, he tells his fans that he’s going to perform an Eminem cover next. He starts off with the first verse of “Lose Yourself” when the camera pans to Eminem backstage getting ready to enter. The rapper takes over while Sheeran accompanies him on guitar and the crowd goes wild. Sheeran joins Eminem vocally again for the chorus.
“Detroit. What a moment,” the “Bad Habits” singer captioned the video on his Instagram.
By the looks of the comments Sheeran received under the post, it was a successful surprise.

Eminem surprised his hometown crowd by dropping in for Ed Sheeran‘s concert in Detroit Saturday.
The “Slim Shady” rapper showed up to Detroit’s Ford Field — where Sheeran was making the latest stop in his “Mathematics Tour” — for an impromptu performance of “Lose Yourself.”
Sheeran kicked things off by performing the first 30 seconds of the hit track before being joined on stage by the rapper himself for the major surprise.
The duo then wowed the crowd with their own rendition of “Stan”, with Sheeran providing the Dido singing while Eminem delivered his rapped verses as he paced the stage.
“I appreciate you, Detroit,” Eminem said as he and Sheeran were met by a roar of applause after their two-song surprise. “I love you!”
“Detroit. What a moment,” Sheeran captioned a clip from Saturday’s show.

Ed Sheeran welcomed an unlikely surprise guest during his concert Saturday in Detroit as Eminem appeared onstage to perform two of his biggest hits alongside the British singer.
Performing at the Motor City’s Ford Field, Sheeran acknowledged Eminem’s hometown by first launching into the 8 Mile hit “Lose Yourself” solo, telling the crowd he rehearsed it earlier in the day. “We’ll see how it goes,” he said.

If we were to unpack the songwriting process for Jason Derulo’s latest single, “Slow Low,” it wouldn’t be improbably to assume he started with his own name as the final lyric and worked his way backward until the rest of the song was complete. “I love the way you say Ja-son De-ru-lo, low, low, low, low, low,” closing out the record alongside about a dozen more “lows” is exactly the type of earworm quirk that makes the strongest case for pop radio domination.

Los Angeles, May 16 (Ians) Singer Ed Sheeran said that rapping along to Eminem’s 2000 album ‘The Marshall Mathers LP’ “cured” his stutter.
Sheeran, who has since teamed up and performed with the rap icon, has shared that he has the ‘Lose Yourself’ hitmaker, 50, to thank for helping to fix his speech impediment, reports aceshowbiz.com.
“(My uncle) just said to my dad, ‘This guy is the next Bob Dylan. You gotta let him listen.’ And by learning that record – and rapping it back to back to back to back – it cured my stutter,” he recalled when appearing on ‘The Howard Stern Show’ on SiriusXM.
Ed continued: “I think it’s different with Eminem because he is quite reclusive, doesn’t see or meet that many people. I’ve known him now (for) six years and we’ve done three songs together, I’ve played with him twice onstage. He’s...

The four panelists on “The Masked Singer” are having a hard time narrowing down the identity of the secret celebrity hiding inside the Medusa costume. The snake-haired villainess performed a pitch-perfect rendition of “Happier Than Ever” during the season premiere and left the judges “speechless.” She returned in Episode 2 with “Dancing Queen” and won the crown yet again. Medusa then performed “New York, New York” in Episode 3, but lost the vote to California Roll, however she was saved by the “Ding Dong Keep It On” Bell and won the comeback competition. She then advanced from the quarter-finals and the semi-finals, which means she will appear in the season finale. Do You know who she is? Read on for the judges’ “The Masked Singer” Medusa guesses.

A thrilling new horror series is coming to Prime Video called "Swarm." In their latest project, "The Hate U Give" actor Dominique Fishback plays Dre, a young woman who goes to extreme lengths to fuel her obsession with a pop star named Ni'Jah.
Viewers got their first look at Ni'Jah with the arrival of the show's teaser trailer on Feb. 10. Even though "Swarm" hasn't premiered yet, her character has already been creating a huge buzz online thanks to her resemblance to Beyoncé. The show's official trailer, which dropped on Feb. 24, only fueled those theories by seemingly including a few nods to the singer. Created by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann (the latter also wrote and directed the video game), The Last of Us stars Pedro Pascal as grizzled survivor Joel and Bella Ramsey as a teenage girl named Ellie. Taking place after a fungal plague has ravaged the globe, it centers around Joel fulfilling his task of smuggling Ellie beyond a quarantine zone in Boston.

The Last of Us Part II shows us how Joel and Ellie use music as a way to connect with and understand each other and even allows the player to strum along via the controller when both characters play guitar. At the beginning of the game, Joel sings Pearl Jam’s “Future Days” to Ellie, and it becomes a song that she uses to remember him later on. Ellie also sings A-ha’s “Take on Me” to her friend and love interest Dina when the two are in Seattle together – a touching moment amidst all the violence in the game.

Let’s take a minute to consider the “Last of Us” prologue, a bit of heavy lifting done so elegantly and tactfully that it takes a few viewings to fully appreciate. Right up top, it addresses the biggest meta element working both for and against the show, the idea that the word “pandemic” has been turbocharged in the years since the original game came out a decade ago. It drops in the idea of cordyceps as a casual possibility rather than underline it with a giant red pen. It cedes the floor to scientists to hint at the turmoil that’s about to happen, rather than have some Fedra lackey do it in retrospect.
It shouldn’t work, having Big Head and Jonathan Carnahan outline the stakes of societal collapse that we’ll see in waves over the course of this entire season.

The Group A semi-finals took place on Wednesday night’s episode of “The Masked Singer,” with two performers unmasking in front of America. After the Jester was revealed to be rock legend Johnny Rotten of The Sex Pistols, Pepper lost her head and was exposed as Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Natasha Bedingfield. Despite impressing the panel with her performance of “Sign of the Times” by Harry Styles, Natasha wasn’t able to take down Bull or Skunk, who will now compete in the Group A finals.
“It’s fun to be spicy,” Natasha revealed during her unmasked interview with host Nick Cannon. “I just want people to feel something so I’m really trying to tell the story.” Throughout her clue packages, Pepper revealed that someone very close to her was going through a difficult time. “My son had brain surgery just before the pandemic,” Natasha explained. “He’s three. We were five weeks in the hospital.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched “The Masked Singer” Season 6, Episode 9, “Group A Semi-Final,” which aired November 10 on Fox.

“We don’t have the privilege to be against the war,” tuts a British wife to a peace activist. “We’re married to it.” Technically, she means married to an active-duty soldier, but as far as “Military Wives” director Peter Cattaneo is concerned, there’s little to distinguish the Afghanistan-sent men these left-to-fend-for-themselves ladies love from the machine that deploys them. When their spouses lose communication, each wife on the base gets an impersonal text at the same time, a chorus of pings and buzzes that simultaneously spook every house.

That’s what pop singer Alec Benjamin thought when he first heard it. He covered the song on the most recent episode of Spotify’s Under Cover podcast.
“I went back through all of Eminem’s old records, and when I found ‘Stan’ it gave me this visceral feeling in my gut,” Benjamin said. His...

Dido unveiled an empowering new break-up ballad, “Give You Up,” off her forthcoming LP, Still On My Mind, out March 8th via BMG. “Give You Up” boasts a simple arrangement that finds Dido crooning over steady piano plunks, while an atmospheric blend of backing vocals, white noise and kick drums provides texture and warmth. While a fresh heartbreak definitely anchors the song, the lyrics and Dido’s vocal performance lend the track a delightfully bold edge as she sings, “I found a way to let you go/ It’s gonna rip your heart out.

This article marks Part 25 of the Gold Derby series analyzing 84 years of Best Original Song at the Oscars. Join us as we look back at the timeless tunes recognized in this category, the results of each race and the overall rankings of the winners.
The 2010 Oscar nominees in Best Original Song were:
“Coming Home” from “Country Strong”
“If I Rise” from “127 Hours”
“I See the Light” from “Tangled”
“We Belong Together” from “Toy Story 3”
Won: “We Belong Together” from “Toy Story 3”
Should’ve won: “If I Rise” from “127 Hours”
Best Original Song in 2010 marked one of the most deadly-dull line-ups to ever grace the category, a sleepy, entirely unremarkable batch of four songs that is exceedingly difficult to select a favorite among.
Voters, faced with this anemic foursome, opted to go with Oscar mainstay Randy Newman, awarding him a second Best Original Song prize, this time for “We Belong Together.

Before we dive into the reviews of Monday’s performances by The Voice’s Top 12, let’s have a moment of silence, why don’t we, for the vocalists that we only wish were still in the contest. For me, it’s Kelsea Johnson, who never just sang a song, she put on a show. For some of you, it’s Wilkes, who’d earned the right to spell his name in all caps; for others, Terrence Cunningham, who’d perhaps gotten weighed down by his big bag of tricks. Whichever coulda-been-a-contender it is that you were missing Monday, you...

Coachella Day 3: Eminem Throws Shade at Himself, Cardi B Twerks Through Her Star-Studded Baby Shower
Eminem’s mission — and, perhaps foolishly, he did choose to accept it — was to avoid being the butt of any “Anticlimaxchella” headlines, taking the main stage in the desert Beyoncé’s collective-consciousness-reshaping appearance the night before. He had yet another hurdle Sunday at Coachella: making sure he wasn’t even overshadowed by Cardi B’s massively attended pre-sundown set a few hours prior to his.
Mission accomplished, then, as the presidents say, but not without a little suspense as to whether or how he’d get there. In the end, Eminem did it by making Sunday a Dre day.
It’s a truism that isn’t always true that at Coachella, as a headliner, you’re only as good as your guest stars. The Weeknd proved the exception to the rule Friday by winning the crowd with zero cameos. On Saturday, the moments when Beyoncé brought out Jay-z, Solange and Kelly & Michelle dominated the headlines,...

He might have a new album about to drop, but Eminem is sticking to the fan favorites.
The 45-year-old rapper changed the format during his Saturday Night Live performance this weekend — rather than treating viewers to two separate songs, as is the norm for the show’s musical guests, he appeared only once and played a nearly nine-minute medley of three songs.
Backed by a string section and band, he started with new single “Walk on Water.” The Grammy-winner was accompanied by the song’s writer, Skylar Grey, who played piano and performed the vocals provided by Beyoncé on the official recording.

In the wake of the horrific mass shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada on Sunday, Jimmy Fallon opened Monday's Tonight Show with an emotional performance from Miley Cyrus.
The Younger Now artist, joined by Adam Sandler on guitar, performed a moving rendition of Dido's "No Freedom," which Cyrus said was in remembrance of the victims of the attack.
Introducing Cyrus' performance, which kicked off her five-day "Miley Week" on the Tonight Show, Fallon addressed the tragic events that unfolded Sunday night at the Route 91 country musical festival, where 59 people were killed and over 520 people injured by a lone gunman with automatic weapons.
"This morning we woke up to the news of another senseless shooting -- this time in Las Vegas," Fallon said. "In the face of tragedies and acts of terror, we need to remember that good still exists in this world. We’re here to entertain you tonight and that’s what we’re going to do."

Show of hands if you spent a lot of college listening to Remy Zero or Paula Cole on your Winamp?
Okay, you can put your hands down. (We can't see them.) But, we can see why you opened up your ears to the aforementioned artists -- they blessed us with two of the best teen TV show theme songs in the history of time.
From "Smallville's" apt "Save Me," to "I Don't Want to Wait" from "Dawson's Creek," we've assembled more memorable themes you shouldn't feel embarrassed adding to your Spotify.
7. "My So-Called Life Theme" From "My So-Called Life" (1994 - 1995)
If high-school angst and nostalgia had theme music, this would be it. No lyrics, just all the feels.
6. 'Where You Lead" From "Gilmore Girls" (2000 - 2007)
The Gilmores arguably have the most "fall as f**k" theme ever made. Which probably explains why we never fast-forward through it during our binge watching sessions.

It always starts the same way. The opening few piano notes of something slow by Coldplay or Labrinth. A contestant swallows hard, then starts talking about their sick mum/child/dog. And suddenly, before Cheryl can even grab a tissue, you're sat on your sofa blubbing like a toddler.

The Oscars are less than 96 hours away, so you only have a limited amount of time to brag about your insane knowledge of Academy Awards history. Ready for a brutal 21-question foray into Oscar's grisly past? Let's roll. (We give you the questions on the first page. Jot down your responses, then check the answers, along with the accompanying questions, on the next page. The videos embedded here aren't related to the questions. They're just fun!) 1. What ‘90s Best Actor winner gave the shortest onscreen performance ever nominated (and therefore awarded) in that category? This is measured by total minutes and seconds spent onscreen. 2. The first (and so far only) black female nominee in the Best Original Screenplay category was a co-writer of what biopic released in the 1970s? 3. From 1937 to 1945, the Academy guaranteed nominations in one particular category to any studio that submitted a qualifiable entry. What was the category?...

Manuel here trying to turn this wet and slushy frown upside down with some help from the movies.
Um...
As Nat noted this weekend, that might be one of the better responses to an alleged Oscar snub in recent memory but as with all "snubs," we have the films and boy has Xavier Dolan's Mommy seared itself into my brain. And so I'm using it today to help me brave this icy, cold, rainy weather we're having in the North East today (anyone buried under lots of snow?)
One of the best scenes in Dolan's film is set to Céline Dion's "On Ne Change Pas" and that song has been in constant rotation on my Spotify ever since (actually all of the songs from that film have!) Dolan has quite the gift for pairing radio-stamped hits with transgressively appealing scenes that don't just work as stylistic juxtapositions but as helpful characterizations.

One sure sign of a film's legacy: Does it inspire its own holiday? If you happened to be anywhere near the Internet on Oct. 3, you probably noticed an outpouring of nostalgia for 2004's Mean Girls. The reason? A throwaway line uttered by Lindsay Lohan's Cady: "It's October 3rd." That may seem a pretty slim thread to hang an entire day on, but it's indicative of the fervent fan base for this new-classic teen comedy. Written by Tina Fey and directed by Mark Waters (Vampire Academy), Mean Girls stars Lohan as a high school student at a new school who infiltrates the Plastics,...

Before VH1′s I Love the 2000s special began on June 17, I polled my roommates (whom I forced to watch with me) about their favorite pop culture moments from the year 2000. For about three minutes, everyone was stumped—what’s actually from the year 2000, instead of just under the umbrella term “the 2000s”? It turns out that remembering specific years is a lot harder than you think.
That’s why there’s a saving grace to VH1′s nostalgia-bait series, a 10-part anthology spread out over five days this week. It’s hugely entertaining to hear no-name comedians praise specific...

Fifteen men. Fifteen layered “rocker” outfits from H&M. Fifteen obligations to make preteen girls clap, whinny, and vote. Who will win? Who will whinny?
I did a couple of times. Not raucously, but overall, the first showcase of American Idol‘s male contestant crop was much better than the distaff half’s debut on Tuesday night. Some areas of improvement over the ladies: less screaming; more looking-like-they-belong-on-a-stage; handsomeness; guitar antics; palpable sensuality; faces for gay men to enjoy. Maybe we didn’t get a tender, tearful moment in the vein of M.K. Nobilette‘s whispery triumph on Tuesday, but I think we clearly saw five dudes fulla feelings emerge as frontrunners. Which is convenient, considering only five are guaranteed to proceed.

For most of my childhood, Dido's music was inescapable; on the big screen, on the small screen, on the radio, in my shower. Although given her marvelous melodies, lyrical mastery and haunting voice, I'm at a loss for why anyone would ever choose to evade her tunes. And judging from her Billboard chart dominanace, and omnipresence for the last two decades, it's clear no one else could settle on a reason either.
Now Dido's most popular songs have been culled together for a Greatest Hits album. ETonline recently chatted with the Grammy and Oscar-nominated performer about the odd experience of compiling this collection, her favorite tracks ever and the most bizarre moment in her career.
ETonline: What was your reaction to being asked to compile a Greatest Hits album?

Jessie J became the first coach to jump out of the good Voice UK ship today (July 5), claiming that her music commitments rule her out of the BBC talent show's third cycle of spinning chairs.
It's not yet known whether Sir Tom, Danny or will are back for series three, but the search is already on to find a female popstar to replace J-j-j-Jessie.
The bookmakers have already started listing the usual suspects (Cheryl, Kylie, Adele), but here at Digital Spy we've come up with a list of serious replacements, who we believe to be genuine possible contenders for series three.
Joss Stone
If the BBC wants a like-for-like Jessie J replacement, personality-wise you couldn't get much closer than Miss Stone. She has a Marmite effect on the general public, she isn't afraid of speaking her mind and she's fond of an impromptu warble. We can easily imagine her dancing...

West Hollywood, Calif. -- Dido had been planning a relatively quick return to the spotlight after 2008's "Safe Trip Home." She holed up in Los Angeles and London studios to record a set of electronic-tinged songs.
"I was busy telling everyone there was an album on the way," Dido said. "And then I found out there was a baby on the way instead."
She and husband Rohan Gavin welcomed their first child, a son named Stanley, in July 2011. Dido packed up the recordings to focus on family.
But then late last year, the 41-year-old English singer reached out to her brother, producer Rollo Armstrong, to finally put the finishing touches on her fourth album, "Girl Who Got Away," released Tuesday.
Quick to laugh and full of self-deprecating asides, Dido recently sat down with The Associated Press to discuss her new songs, her son's musical tastes and her tendency to retreat from fame.
