Ground-breaking, intelligent, prescient 1970s drama Doomwatch, now out on DVD, is a British television classic...
Playing on the public's fear that 'this could actually happen', Doomwatch had a veneer of credibility unusual in the escapist television drama landscape of the late 60s/early 70s. This spring sees the most comprehensive haul of Doomwatch episodes released on DVD for the first time. The nickname for the "Department for the Observation and Measurement of Scientific Work", the series first appeared on BBC1 on Monday 9th February 1970 at 9.40pm. It followed half an hour of comedy from Kenneth Williams, which must have surely heightened its dramatic impact.
The series would run in tandem with the early Jon Pertwee era of Doctor Who; the first episode made its debut two days after part two of Doctor Who And The Silurians. The two shows undoubtedly shared a synergy of ideas - not to mention cast and crew.

They’ve been settling into married life for the past four months, and finally Kate Bosworth and Michael Polish are giving fans an inside look at their fairytale wedding.
The “Big Sur” babe married her handsome director hubby on August 31st in front of a small group of friends and family at The Ranch at Rock Creek in Philipsburg, Montana.
And on the evening before the big day, Kate and Michael treated their guests to a hoedown-themed rehearsal dinner with a live country music band.
Additionally, the tables were set with bandana napkins and Bosworth donned a gorgeous dress by Chloe while Polish went for a more casual approach in a pair of jeans.
Kate wore not one, but two custom-made Oscar de la Renta dresses on her wedding day, and photographer John Dolan captured the whole magical event for Martha Stewart Weddings.

I went through a devastating earthquake break-up between my first and second years of graduate school. One of those "I'm going to be alone forever, no one will ever love me, my life is over, I wish she would die in a tire fire" breakups that Alanis Morrissette based the good part of her music career on. My friends were there for me, and one drove me from Philly to Boston to spend Labor Day weekend. We were both movie buffs, and so we decided to walk up to the Landmark near M.I.T. to go see The Brown Bunny. For those of you who only know it as "Vincent Gallo Videotapes Chloe Sevigny Blowing Him," the rest of the film is basically about a guy falling apart and weeping and painfully struggling with the loss of his girlfriend who he thought had cheated on him. Not exactly the remedy for a broken heart.

Does Channing Tatum have what it takes to become a serious actor? Up until now his filmography hasn't been particularly impressive, consisting mainly of drivel like Step Up, Fighting, Dear John and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, but he has also been taking on smaller roles in slightly more interesting movies such as A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, Battle in Seattle and Michael Mann's Public Enemies. He's also starring in Steven Soderbergh's Haywire and Kevin Macdonald's The Eagle, and now this week we have news that he will be starring in The Contortionist's Handbook, based on one of Chuck Palahniuk's favourite novels. That's not all either... apparently he'll also be producing the movie too. Written by Craig Clevenger, the book is about a man named John Dolan Vincent who finds himself in and out of prison and hospitals thanks to drug addiction problems and his various criminal activities.

Another day, another novel being adapted for the big screen. This time it's Channing Tatum taking the reins on Craig Clevenger's debut novel The Contortionist's Handbook, which the Alabama-born hunk will both star in and produce.
The book follows John Dolan Vincent, a talented young forger with a weakness for narcotics who, faced with institutionalization, continually creates new identities for himself in order to escape the legal and mental health authorities. Chuck Palahniuk, the author of Fight Club, has been shouting the merits of this book from the rooftops, and presumably kicking himself for not have thinking of the idea himself.
Newcomer Robin Shushan has penned the script, and no director is attached as yet, but there's plenty of time as the film will have to squander in development a little longer while Tatum gets done with his slate of other projects first.

Am I missing something with Channing Tatum? Is he a talented actor? Am I just not seeing it? Every time I see him get cast in a new film I'm always surprised. I just don't get it, but he's got himself a new project that he's both starring in and producing. The film is an adaptation of the book by Craig Clevenger called The Contortionist’s Handbook.
Tatum will play a forger who moves smoothly from one identity to the next because of a strict code of conduct that keeps him from getting caught or having to deal with his own troubled past. That gets upended when he falls for a beautiful woman with her own dark secret.
It sounds like an interesting story if you can get past the fact the film will star Channing Tatum. What do you all think?
Here the description from the book:

We all know that the film industry has A Lot of perks. That’s a given. What many don’t realize is that it takes A Lot of hard work to earn said perks. One person in Tinseltown that definitely understands how to work for his perks is Channing Tatum and here’s how I know…
