If animated TV series “Mike Tyson Mysteries” is “Scooby-Doo” on acid, then the second season was even wackier, with an abundance of fun celebrities and bizarre creatures to design.
This season, character designer Dusty Abell’s task of trying to “simplify real people that we are all familiar with” was combined with a “wider variety of characters. It’s a surprising balance of crass and smart in dealing with pop culture and political satire.”
Abell already had his hands full with the Mystery team: the eponymous Mike Tyson, profane and oblivious (voiced by the former boxer); the alcoholic and obnoxious Pigeon (Norm Macdonald); Tyson’s 18-year-old adopted daughter, Yung Hee Tyson (Rachel Ramras), who resembles “Scooby-Doo’s” Velma; and the haughty ghost of Marquess of Queensberry, the father of modern boxing (Jim Rash).
For Tyson, Abell took inspiration from the Muhammad Ali and Mr. T cartoons of the ’70s and ’80s, and was pleasantly surprised by Tyson’s voice acting ability. Of course, Tyson’s boxing prowess came in handy when interacting with his intellectual sidekick, John Douglas, 9th Marquess of Queensberry.
“He was telling me all about the rules of the old sport and how it evolved over time,” said Abell. “And he was very knowledgeable about the real man and what he brought to the fight game. And Jim Rash had once written a blog about programming 24 hours of Saturday morning cartoons. His take on ’70s and ’80s conventions was fascinating.”
For the episode “Ogopogo!,” which tells Pigeon’s backstory of being human and having a spell put on him by his ex-wife, the eponymous sea monster proved a fun design challenge. “The show called for a haunted lake and a river monster,” Abell said. “And I had no idea they were drawing from legend and lore, so I watched a whole documentary about the Ogopogo monster. It’s the Lake Michigan version of the Loch Ness monster.”
The episode in which Snoop Dogg starts a rival Mystery team (“Unsolved Situations”) provided a different challenge for Abell: “His hair was originally done in little pixie twirls, but the Dogg team had one request: that he look as he does now with tight braids.”

2016 wasn't so hot for David Fincher. Sony moved on without the director for the further adventures of Lisbeth Salander and "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" universe, while his projects at HBO, "Utopia" and "Videosyncrazy," both fell apart. But he's headed into the New Year with some very exciting news. Deadline reports that Netflix has snapped up "Mind Hunter," the long developing project that Fincher has been brewing with Charlize Theron, which he will direct for the streaming service. The project first came on the radar back in 2010, ironically as a potential HBO series. It's based on John Douglas and Mark Olshaker's non-fiction book, "Mind Hunter: Inside The FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit," which follows Douglas' work as an FBI profiler tracking serial killers. At the time, "Dexter" writer Scott Buck penned a pilot, but after...

The phrase "serial killer" is most often attributed to the late FBI agent Robert Ressler, who coined the term along with fellow agent John Douglas as they began profiling and researching murder cases in the 1970s. His work led him to have direct contact with serial killers, with Ressler apparently receiving a painting from killer John Wayne Gacy with an inscription that apparently read: "Dear Bob Ressler, you cannot hope to enjoy the harvest without first laboring in the fields. Best wishes and good luck. Sincerely, John Wayne Gacy, June 1988."
The inscription sounds like it came out of a movie, which perhaps isn't so surprising since Hollywood has been making movies about serial killers since the silent era. Sometimes these movies are about real-life killers, other times they are based on real-life killers or events, or, and perhaps even more disturbing, they are based on nothing but imagination. Either way,...

Hal Douglas Dies
Douglas’ daughter Sarah Douglas, an actor, confirmed her father’s passing to The New York Times. He passed away at his home in Lovettsville, Va.
Douglas lent his voice-over talents to trailers for Forrest Gump, Philadelphia, Meet the Parents and Lethal Weapon among others, according to TMZ. The movie trailers he worked on number into the thousands. Douglas was a master at changing up his voice to provide appropriate voice-overs for a wide variety of movies – from dramatic and action-packed films to the more comedic and light-hearted.
In 2002, he notably appeared in the trailer for Jerry Seinfeld’s documentary Comedian, engaging in a bit of wordplay rife with clichés as he attempted to provide the trailer’s voice-over.
Among his contemporaries, Douglas counted the late Don Lafontaine and Titanic trailer voice-over artist Don Morrow.

HBO is looking to add another World War II miniseries to their collection which already includes Band of Brothers and The Pacific, which both came from producers Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks. I loved those series, and I want to see more!
HBO heads Michael Lombardo and Richard Plepler revealed the news and explained that the third series would follow the aerial battles in the Pacific. How badass is that?! One of my favorite aspects of WWII were the aerial battles, and it will be amazing to see this brought to life! There's no confirmation, but I imagine that Spielberg and Hanks will be back to develop it.
David Fincher is a different story all together. There's no word on if he'll be a part of this new WWII project they want to do, but the cable network has signed a deal with him. There's no word on what he'll be developing for them,...

As part of this year’s awards season, the Hollywood Reporter has rounded up a handful of the year’s best actresses to talk about their roles and swap stories about acting at their level.
There are other roundtables, with actors, directors, and writers, but this panel included Glenn Close, Carey Mulligan, Michelle Williams, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, and Charlize Theron. I watched the full hour (and you should too, if you have the time/interest), but Theron’s thoughts on monsters, both real and fake, and empathy struck me the most.
(Here is my review of Theron’s performance in Young Adult.)
In the interview, Theron begins by answering a question about how difficult it is to play a “bitch” or a Monster. She said she doesn’t believe in sympathizing with, or “feeling bad for,” a character, only empathizing with what they’re going through. In her research...

So how does it feel to look back on the legacy of The Railway Children after 40 years?
People have taken it on as a film they wanted to show their children. You have new generation of young who look at it. And you wonder "why does this still relate?" but I suppose it just does. I think Lionel made something that was so completley honest in the way. He did it so that you're not stuck with values of the seventies- he's trying to get across the Edwardian time setting, and you're left with the story and he does it really beautifully. He really understands every element of film making-really: great sound; really great music by Johnny Douglas; brillant photography. He chose people around him that he really cared about, like Bernard Cribbins who he just admired as an actor and had worked with before. The whole setup was just like a family.

In the wake of The Sopranos and The Wire, two of best reviewed television programs in all of small-screen history, HBO isn’t slowing one bit. Last year, winners such as Eastbound & Down and Bored to Death debuted, while the returning In Treatment continued its excellent run; then, there’s 2010, which will see the premieres of Wire creator David Simon’s New Orleans-set Treme and Martin Scorcese’s Boardwalk Empire, both of which look exceptional. And now, the cable network is ready to join the David Fincher business, as word circulated early Thursday that the A-list director is working alongside Charlize Theron on Mind Hunter, an in-development adaptation of John Douglas and Mark Olshaker’s book Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Serial Crime Unit.

There is a reason why Charlize Theron is not filling her 2010 calendar as much as previous years. The "Monster" actress is trying her hand on developing a crime series for HBO and Fox 21 which will be titled "Mind Hunter". She is accompanied in the production panel by director David Fincher.
"Mind Hunter" is based on John Douglas and Mark Olshaker's book "Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit" and will follow an investigation about serial killers. Douglas worked as FBI's top investigator of serial killers and rapist and the book recounts his profiling techniques. Adapting from the book for the pilot's script is Scott Buck who has written for "Six Feet Under" and "Dexter" episodes.
Under her Denver and Delilah banner, Theron teams up also with producer Jennifer Orme Erwin who brought the book into her attention first. Theron, Finch, Erwin and Buck are sitting as the executive producers in this project.

Any time I learn about a new David Fincher project I take the news with a certain degree of skepticism. Fincher is a filmmaker who gets involved with projects left and right, but many never go beyond the development stage. It's the way the town works in general, but Fincher likes to develop a lot more stuff at once than the average producer/director. So take the word that he and Charlize Theron are developing Mind Hunter, an HBO series based on the John Douglas and Mark Olshaker book Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit, with a basic 'wait and see' attitude. Variety reports that Mind Hunter is at the script stage at Fox 21, which is producing for HBO. The pilot is being written by Dexter exec producer Scott Buck. The book is based on the experience John Douglas gained with the FBI, where he developed profiling...

Toronto -- Marriage was on the minds of Canada's TV regulators in November 2007 when the Crtc warned broadcaster Canwest Global Communications Corp. that allowing Goldman Sachs & Co. to largely finance their $1.4 billion joint venture could prove an unstable and shaky union prone to break up.
"It's always easy when you are first getting married -- my wife may not agree with me. You always want to contemplate what happens if you have to get to the divorce stage as well when you get involved with another partner," Crtc commissioner Len Katz told assembled Canwest Global and Goldman Sach & Co. executives asking for his blessing of their business combination.
Gerry Cardinale, managing director at Goldman Sachs, told the Crtc that the key to marital bliss was ensuring "there is no gaming going on in terms of the ultimate ownership" of cable and conventional TV assets to be jointly run by the Goldman Sachs and Canwest Global.
