- With more than 40 years experience in Film and Television, Rob has worked on everything from Regional TV News to Hollywood Feature Films.
Known as a technical innovator and creative risk taker in the industry he has pioneered many new techniques and worked on development of motion picture products for SONY, Panasonic, Fuji Film, Arri and Zeiss. Rob was also the first to run a full scale Hi Definition shoot in Hollywood on the then "new gen" camera's.
Rob set the style for what has become known as Reality TV in a groundbreaking series he shot for Universal called "The Street"...after which the New York Times declared "the show practically creates a new visual language". Rob also worked on some of the first Music Videos used to promote feature Films and developed a visual style for using promotional music videos for retailing in a 5 minute Hollywood extravaganza for Coca Cola.
Rob's photography on the Sundance Audience award winner, The Spitfire Grill, drew accolades worldwide.
Rob draws inspiration from the classic painters and his skilled and delicate use of light and shade as integral elements of composition sets his work apart. Over the past 20 years he has inspired thousand of cinematographers worldwide as a dynamic instructor at workshops, and as a consultant, on the art of film lighting
More recently he has been on the cutting edge of digital technology on the web with his groundbreaking IPTV channel Singlemalt TV. Launched in 2006 it immediately drew attention and a long relationship with major media players in UK.

This was instrumental in the growth of Rob's popularity as a lecturer in Cinematography when, in the early 1980's, he was regularly flown to the US to lead one week workshops at the International Film and TV Workshops in Maine where he has led Summer Workshops now, for more than 25 years. Rob was also hired for a one semester stint as professor of Cinematography at SUNY Purchase NY and later another one semester stint in the same role at Rockport College. In 2004 Rob photographed the first feature film to be shot entirely in Hi Definition in Australia and in 2005 he started his own Hi Definition production company Visionmill, providing everything from TV programming to Feature Films. During this time Rob focused his attention on the newly emerging media and confluence of HD technologies, newspapers, television and web based video, filming more than 700 individual clips and over 300 hrs of original HD content in the US, Europe and Asia. In 2006 he launched one of the first HD originated internet TV channels, Singlemalt.tv and immediately drew the attention of London Times(NewsCorp) CEO James Murdoch. This started an intensive 4 year relationship as a Digital Media Consultant which saw Rob working at the top levels of News International (Sunday Times) on the integration of web based, broadcast quality video into newspapers and magazines with particular emphasis on use of video for brand building and retailing.
