François Truffaut was the responsible for her name change from Claudine Huze to Marie Dubois after he suggested she changed it after "Marie Dubois" (1952), a novel by Jacques Audiberti they both appreciated.
In a 2005 interview, Marie said that François Truffaut was her first love and that she thinks he was in love with her too during the time they were filming Shoot the Piano Player (1960) and although they never had an affair they remained close friends until Truffaut's death in 1984.
