Playboy Enterprises Inc., looking to expand its adult video offerings around the globe, has scooped up veteran MGM television executive Jim Griffiths for a top post. Griffiths, a former CAA agent who has spent the past six years as president of worldwide TV distribution for MGM, was tapped for the newly created position of senior executive vp by Playboy chairman and CEO Christie A. Hefner, to whom he will report. Griffiths, who officially starts Jan. 20, will be responsible for business development for the entire company as well as global TV and location-based entertainment operations. He will be based in Playboy's Los Angeles offices. Jim English, president of Playboy's entertainment group -- which produces the videos and digital cable networks that have become one of the company's main growth drivers in recent years -- is expected to remain in his post, although he will now report directly to Griffiths rather than Hefner, a company spokeswoman said.
