As global streamers like Netflix and Amazon Prime finally make inroads in Africa, Nigerian-Canadian filmmaker Lonzo Nzekwe is enjoying his moment in the sun at the Toronto Film Festival.
CAA Media Finance boarded Nzekwe’s Nigeria-set Canadian revenge thriller Orah with worldwide representation, excluding Canada, just before the feature that stars Star Trek: Discovery actor Oyin Oladejo in the titular role had a prestigious TIFF market screening on Monday night as part of the festival’s expanded Industry Selects program.
The film, with a script 12 years in the making and shot in Canada and Nigeria, marks a triumph for Nzekwe, who like fellow black Canadian filmmakers long had his work neglected, ignored or dismissed before a Canadian industry reckoning after the murder of George Floyd finally diverted meaningful local financing to underrepresented creators.

A Sunday Affair is a Nigerian romantic comedy movie directed by Walter Taylaur starring Dakore Egbuson, Nse Ikpe-Etim and Oris Erhuero.
A Sunday Affair is a classic romantic comedy that if you are trying to seek solace in the comfort of familiarity… this might do the trick. If you are looking for something a little more novel… carry on searching.
Sentimental, not much comedy and lots of sentiment in dialogues more than in situations, which don´t have much rhythm making the thing bog down before it has even started.
About the Movie
Netflix is an international company and this is what we like about it. We have in recent times, had the chance to see plenty of movies from Nigeria and there are better and worse ones and this one, unfortunately, is not one of the good ones.
This romantic comedy which was created to please, slips a little...

Director: Chee Keong Cheung. Writers: Chee Keong Cheung, Steve Horvath and Mark Strange. Cast: Oris Erhuero, Carlos Gallardo, Mark Strange, Katarina Leigh Waters, Martyn Ford and Joshua Dickinson. Redcon-1 is the latest zombie thriller, to emerge from the United Kingdom. Shot in Glasgow and London, this is a martial arts actioner, from director and producer Chee Keong Cheung (Underground). The film was developed by a team of writers. But, you might not notice this in the story, which is paper thin. Borrowing from a few other movies like Escape from New York (1981), 28 Days Later (2002) and a few others, Redcon-1 forgets about some of its characters and their dialogue. Still, there is a lot of dazzle on the screen as the film's crew focuses on the many action elements. In the end, Redcon-1 is a an interesting zombie action tale, which is built on a thin layer of plot. You may...

From some of the minds behind Desperado and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For comes the zombie thriller Redcon-1. Set in post-apocalyptic England, a virus released by the government has turned humanity into a stronger and more deadly beast, and we have a look at the trailer for Redcon-1 ahead of its release this May.

Oris Erhuero in Redcon-1
With a cast of thousands, dramatic action sequences and constant movement between locations, Redcon-1 is not what most viewers would expect of an independent film. It follows the journey of a group of soldiers sent into the quarantined south east of England to retrieve a scientist, fighting off hordes of zombies in the process. There’s outstanding work from director Chee Keong Cheung and everything about it oozes ambition. How does one create something like this without the backing of a studio, using just the money one can raise directly? I caught up with Chee to try and find out.
“One of the big things, I think, with the film – to achieve the scale that was written – was having the support of a lot of people from the community in each location that we filmed in. That really helped contribute to what was possible onscreen,” he says.

I've got a fun trailer for an action-packed zombie film for you to check out called Redcon-1. Don't write this movie off just because it's another Zombie film, it actually looks like it could be a good and entertaining movie! Especially with zombies that have enhanced combat and fighting skills!
The story follows a squad of eight Special Forces soldiers who embark on a suicide mission to rescue an important scientist from a city that is overrun with zombies. The film is also said to include "genuine relentless fight action and bristling with real military hardware."
After a zombie apocalypse spreads from a London prison, the UK is brought to its knees. The spread of the virus is temporarily contained but, without a cure, it’s only a matter of time before it breaks its boundaries and the biggest problem of all… any zombies with combat skills are now enhanced.

"War Has Just Evolved." Eagle Films has released an official trailer for a British zombie action horror film titled Redcon-1, opening in cinemas in the UK this September (though unfortunately no word on any Us release yet). Another new take on the zombie genre, this one introduces zombies with "enhanced" combat skills. The plot follows a squad of eight Special Forces soldiers who are assigned a suicide mission to rescue a scientist from a city ruled by the undead. Starring Oris Erhuero, Carlos Gallardo, Mark Strange, Katarina Leigh Waters, Martyn Ford, Joshua Dickinson, Michael Sheehan, Akira Koieyama, Euan Macnaughton, Marc Baylis, and Madeleine Kelly. This supposedly features "genuine relentless fight action and bristling with real military hardware." Surprisingly this looks better than it sounds, but still doesn't seem to add much new or different to the zombie genre. At least it doesn't look like a total disaster. Here's the first...

BERLIN -- Sometimes in April takes on the Rwandan genocide of 1994 with a story that incorporates both the big picture and a drama about a specific family. Writer-director Raoul Peck, who told the story of the rise to power and assassination of a Congolese leader in Lumumba, has the disadvantage of coming late to the subject. Along with several books about the horrifying events that left upward of 1 million people dead, several documentaries and the Oscar-nominated film Hotel Rwanda already have brought Rwanda to the screen. Undoubtedly, there are many, many stories arising from these atrocities yet to be told. But Peck's generic approach, in which one fictional tale tries to encompass the entire tragedy, falls considerably short of the mark.
In the United States, the film will air on HBO, where many people who successfully have avoided any book or movie will get exposed to the story perhaps for the first time, so this might do much good. In territories where April will get released theatrically, the film might have less impact.
The story is split between two Aprils, in 2004 and 1994, and tells the experiences of Augustin Muganza (Idris Elba). Peck contrives the makeup of his family in such a way that he can include as many horror stories as possible. Thus, Augustin is a Hutu army officer, but his wife (Carole Karemera) is Tutsi. His brother Honore (Oris Erhuero) works at a radio station known as "hate radio" that broadcasts a call to arms for Hutus to slaughter Tutsis during the three-month carnage. And Augustin's girlfriend in 2004, Martine (Pamela Nomvete), teaches at a Catholic girls school in 1994, which one of his daughters attends.
In April 2004, during the national Day of Remembrance, Augustin receives a letter from Honore, asking Augustin to visit him in prison in Tanzania, where he is about to plead guilty at the International Criminal Tribunal. Martine urges him to go. Augustin reluctantly does so, and the movie moves back and forth between the two Aprils to fill us in on what happened to the family -- and the nation.
A third sequence takes place behind closed doors in Washington, where U.S. officials debate and temporize but do nothing to stop the massacre. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Prudence Bushnell (Debra Winger) argues for action but gets nowhere. The impression left by these scenes -- that blame for nonintervention lies solely with the U.S. government and not other U.N. member states, including European powers with genuine stakes in the region -- is simplistic and misleading.
The film captures the tensions and fears as chaos rages in the streets and includes more than enough sequences of mass murder to get across the point that madness gripped the entire nation. However, none of its characters is sufficiently developed so that an audience really can identify with him, which is what makes Hotel Rwanda so much more powerful. Dialogue often deteriorates into speeches, and characters habitually make geopolitical points.
This Berlinale has its share of movies about ethnic carnage, such as Amu, about the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in India, and Massacre, about the Christian militia's murder of Palestinian civilians in refugee camps in 1982. Such films need to be made and seen. But they usually hit home strongest when filmmakers are willing to put as much effort into drama and character as into political posturing.
