An actor who played a suspect in a Crimewatch reconstruction has been accused of being the killer by viewers.
Steve Watson of Newark in Nottinghamshire, who is now 53, played a person of interest in the case of murdered 38-year-old Julie Pacey for the show in 1994 after responding to an advert.
Viewers reported him as the potential killer when the programme was rebroadcast on BBC One earlier this year, the Nottingham Post said.
"I asked the officer if I was a suspect and he said everybody was until they were ruled out," Watson said.
"I haven't heard anything yet - I guess I'm still a murder suspect."
He added: "Yes I can see the laugh in it, but the serious side is there. If you're going to do a reconstruction in a murder case, then be prepared for whatever comes.
"Until my DNA results are cleared I'm still in the frame.

Partnering with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and several other aid agencies, the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (Gavi) is rolling out a universal introduction of the pneumococcal vaccine across Kenya today.
The rollout in Kenya is part of a global initiative to vaccinate children in developing countries with the pneumococcal vaccine, which not only saves lives, but also cuts health care costs by focusing on prevention rather than delayed treatment. Every year thousands of children in Kenya die due to pneumonia-related health issues.
"Routine vaccination is one of the most cost-effective public health investments a government can make and we are counting on our donors to continue their strong backing for our life-saving mission," said Helen Evans, interim CEO of the Gavi Alliance.
"The rapid roll-out of new-generation pneumococcal vaccines shows how innovation and technology can be harnessed, at affordable prices, to save lives in the developing world.

Last week, the 33-year-old star of Brothers and Sisters, Matthew Rhys, headed back to his homeland in Wales to tend to some cultural festivities. The actor, who stars as the gay lawyer Kevin Walker in the ABC dramedy, recently headed home to take part in an event sponsored by the National Youth Arts Wales, in which Rhys narrated the first Welsh translation of Britten’s Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra at St. David’s Hall in Cardiff. The National Youth Orchestra of Wales was conducted by Owain Arwel Hughes.
"As a former member of the National Youth Theatre of Wales, Matthew appreciates the value of providing young people with first class training and performing opportunities that can truly influence them and their future life and career choices," Pauline Crossly, representative for Nyaw, told Wales Online. "It’s great that he wants to give something back to a system...
