Wolverine #19 Writer: Benjamin Percy | Artist: Javi Fernandez | Colourist: Matthew Wilson | Letters: Cory Petit
I didn’t think it was possible to get a great standalone issue in modern comics, especially in the Krakoan Age of X-Men comics we are currently in. But I am always happy to be proven wrong! What I like about this issue, in particular, is that even 19 issues into a new era and a solo book at that Percy is continuing to world build for the Krakoan Age. Don’t you just love the idea of Krakoa having its own myths and legends outside of the X-Men we all know and love? Part of why this issue I love this issue is because of all the allusions to Jaws. I love that movie! Moby Dick is another obvious inspiration. Percy after all is a literary guy so of course he is going to channel two classics to shape a Wolverine romp.

Amazingly, I don’t believe I have yet reviewed an issue of Fantastic Four during my time reviewing for Nerdly. I have reviewed issues that feature the Ff, or solo turns and guest appearances, but never them in their own book. Which is odd, as I’ve had an affection for the Fantastic Four going back many years, having read and collected them since the late 1970’s. For me the Bronze Age Ff and the John Byrne were the high points, though in terms of influence nothing can match Lee and Kirby’s initial run. So this was a perfect excuse to review an Ff book, as it also had attached a favourite writer in Mark Waid, a huge favourite artist in Neal Adams, even a great inker in Mark Farmer. The stars have seemingly aligned just for me.

Tell Me Why is an unexpected gem of a game that you wouldn’t expect from Xbox.
“The latest title from Life Is Strange developer Dontnod Entertainment, Tell Me Why, delivers a smaller but just as captivating story about a pair of twins — Tyler and Alyson — who can communicate telepathically with one another and relive their memories.
Read more at Inverse.
Instead of spending four hours revisiting the Justice League Snyder Cut, check out these actually decent director’s cuts.
“Since the earliest days of VHS, the home video market has sometimes allowed for filmmakers to reconcile their regrets of studio interference and release director’s cuts of certain movies. These editions, which are often longer and feature restored plot points and more fully fleshed out characters, typically represent the director’s true artistic intentions.”

Let’s revisit Batman: Ego, the DC Comics that inspired Matt Reeves’ The Batman movie.

From their humble Silver Age beginnings, to comic culture behemoth, to Marvel’s first successful movie franchise. The X-Men have certainly had a roller coaster ride in their fifty six years existence. Starting out with a roster of five led by Charles Xavier the ranks of the X-Men increased year on year. Most notbaly under the pen of Chris Claremont along side artists Dave Cockrum, John Byrne, Paul Smith, Marc Silvestri and Jim Lee the ranks swelled to hundreds. In this era the X-Men became their own universe within the main Marvel universe. With the levels of popularity increasing along with the success that came with it, spin offs, multi part stories and cross overs became the norm. The X-Men were not just the center of the Marvel Universe they were the center of the comics universe. It seems only a few years ago we couldn’t escape the rumours...

DC’s hyped up event of the summer reaches its halfway point and sadly not much can be said about it. Last time, the refugee heroes of Earth 2 found themselves aiding the sorcerer Deimos whom unknown to them has been keeping his own private prison of time travelers from across the DC multiverse as Batman and Dick Grayson ran into the pre-Flashpoint villains of Grant Morrison’s Batman and Robin series, costing Thomas Wayne his life and earning Dick a bullet to the spine. Things are not looking up for these wayward heroes and it looks like things are only getting worse.
Despite this entire event being quite dreary and dull,...

Happy Memorial Day!!
One of my favorite albums of all time is Elephant Shell by Tokyo Police Club. I’ve spun that album about 7,000 times since it came out in 2008 and I’ve yet to get sick of it. Their newest, Champ, just came out and it’s pretty good. It could never live up to Elephant Shell for me, so considering that I think it’s pretty successful. I dunno — can a band ever live up to their one album that dazzled you? I don’t think so, and it’s unfair to expect them to.
So welcome to This Week in Comics, where every day is a comic book and most of them don’t live up to anything.

Invincible Iron Man # 18 – 2.99
Score: 9.0
To be honest, I haven’t found many recent Iron Man solo stories that engaging. The character seems to have more “big” moments in every other book than his. Matt Fraction, Salvador Larocca, and Frank D’Armata’s run on this book has changed my opinion completely. Invincible Iron Man continues to be one of the best comics on the stands on right now. This issue is no exception.
The penultimate chapter in the “World’s Most Wanted” arc puts all the pieces in place for next issue’s finale. As Stark’s smarts have regressed so has his ability to use his more advanced armors. This takes him back to the where it all started for him, the original armor. Meanwhile, the situation involving...
