Escape to Victory didn't set the world alight on its initial release in 1981, but as the decades have ticked on the film has firmly cemented itself as a cult favourite among fans of film and football.
Now, this potent mix of The Great Escape and underdog sports tale is in line for a remake with Edge of Tomorrow's Doug Liman at the helm. Liman will surely play it straight in the redo, but the original film featured a glorious mix of big movie stars of the day (Sylvester Stallone, Michael Caine), ageing football icons who'd taken a paycheque in the Us (Pelé) and Ipswich Town players (hey, they were big in the '80s!).
With that in mind, Digital Spy has picked a brand new Victory 2014 starting XI ready for 90 minutes of life-or-death football. Fyi, we're playing 4-4-2 - the Nazis might overrun us in midfield but we're old school!

Even the best football movies struggle to capture the sport's drama on film. The worst (and there are many) are truly abysmal
Why has cinema found football to be such a tricky customer? Football scenes in film and television are traditionally very awkward affairs, with the "defenders" tip-toeing nervously around the "attackers" as they advance, the goal finally coming via the sort of impractical flying volley you just never see on a real pitch. It's clearly very difficult to let someone score a script-dictated goal while pretending to try to stop them but, at the same time, trying not to look like you're pretending to try to stop them. Perhaps they teach it at Rada, who knows?
Furthermore, filmmakers have the challenge of adding a fictional big-screen gloss to what is already an overwhelmingly camera-friendly and consistently dramatic spectacle in its own right. Real-life football already has its own "script...

Sarah Jessica Parker had an exciting night in NYC yesterday at the unveiling of Disney's Electric Holiday collection and short film at Barneys. She got into the holiday spirit and honored the world's most iconic mouse in a designer pair of mouse ears. The Disney collaboration with Barneys is sure to be a hit with the gift-giving crowd, according to Luis Fernandez, senior vice president of creative for Disney Consumer Products. David Beckham, Michael Jordan, Pelé … Team Gb's young diver should take a look at the abject dabbling of sport's biggest stars before making the switch
Although nobody would deny Team Gb the opportunity to cash in on their hard-won successes this summer, you can't help but wish they'd be a bit pickier. Mo Farah had barely taken his trainers off before he was roped in to tool around with Richard Branson. Victoria Pendleton has wasted no time signing up to Strictly Come Dancing, as if the logical follow-up to being a world-class cyclist is seeing whether you can foxtrot better than Johnny Ball.
But the most troubling post-Olympic news has only just emerged. It's Tom Daley. You see, he wants to act. Asked about his long-term goals before his big homecoming parade in Plymouth this week, Daley said: "Film work, I'd love to do anything like that. I would love to try anything new really,...

Last week we bought you a few new international one-sheets for Spanish horror flick 'Paranormal Xperience 3D'. It's the project that seems to be hurtling through as many name changes as Prince and what it appears we should now be referring to as 'Xp-3D'. Sony Pictures have released a new one-sheet and official website for the Sergi Vizcaino helmed horror flick and 'Paranormal Xperience 3D' seems to have been downsized to the forementioned 'Xp-3D'. Its all quite a departure from original title 'Scars' ('Cicatrices') but there's no doubt that the new and more succinct title change will help draw hordes of txt-happy illiterate teeny-boppers looking for a fun ghost story. Amaia Salamanca, Maxi Iglesias, Luis Fernandez, Nasser Saleh and Albert Vidal all star in the Uni-based spectre tale. Check out the new poster below....

Barcelona's Rodar y Rodar, producer of The Orphanage and Julia's Eyes, is teaming with Sony to make psychological horror-thriller Paranormal Xperience 3D, Spain's first 3D genre film. Loglined "Xperience the Fear" (nice and cheesy), the pic revolves around two sisters who, with other students, visit an abandoned village to investigate alleged paranormal phenomena. "This is a PG-13 film conceived from the point of view of its youth market and marketing potential," said Rodar's Joaquin Padro. "One of the film types that benefits most from 3D is horror," added Ivan Losada, managing director of Sony Pictures Releasing de Espana. As on Orphanage and Guillem Morales' The Uninvited Guest, Rodar has tapped a first-time feature director, 26-year-old Sergi Vizcaino. Screenplay is by 25-year-old Daniel Padro. New York -- Spanish-language media giant Univision Communications is pushing further into original production and co-production, unveiling Monday the creation of Univision Studios.
Industry veteran Luis Fernandez will head up the operation as president, reporting to Univision Networks president Cesar Conde, who took over the job in October. Univision Studios will be based in Miami.
Univision has an exclusive content deal with Grupo Televisa through at least 2017, and both sides have signaled an interest in potentially continuing that relationship beyond that. However, Monday's news also helps Univision with its goal of boosting its own output.
The company said Univision Studios will build on the 4,000 hours of original programming that it already produces annually. It will work on telenovelas, reality shows, dramas and entertainment specials for all of the company's networks and platforms.
"The creation of Univision Studios is a transformational step in the development and growth of our company and an important,...
