Two producers of Starz’s forthcoming Outlander prequel are taking on a different long-running book series for their next TV project.
Story Mining & Supply Co., the production company founded by Jim Kohlberg, has acquired rights to Edgar Award-winning author William Kent Krueger’s Cork O’Connor mystery thriller novels, about a half-Irish, half-Ojibwe sheriff turned private investigator in Minnesota. The company will adapt the books — there are 19 to date, with a 20th set to publish in August — for television and is currently meeting with writers. No outlet is attached yet.
Kohlberg and longtime partner Luke Parker Bowles, a former BAFTA East Coast chairman (and nephew of Britain’s queen consort), will executive produce the project along with Krueger.

Adrianne Lenker has unveiled “Fool,” the latest single from her forthcoming solo album, Bright Future.
Guided by a muted acoustic guitar line, “Fool” lets Lenker’s wandering verses shine in their purest form. Describing a relationship at a standstill, she arrives at the chorus by requesting “Oh, just say what it is that you want,” and later concludes the track with the decisive “What more can I possibly say? / So if you wanna go I say baby okay, okay.” Throughout, light flourishes of strings pop in and out of Lenker’s homespun arrangement, including moments where you can practically hear Lenker smiling on the mic as she records.
“Fool” also arrives with a similarly homespun music video directed by her brother, Noah Lenker. The video features Lenker fashioned as a winter cowboy warrior with her family and dogs frolicking around her. Watch it below.

Adrianne Lenker has announced her fourth studio album, Bright Future, out March 22nd via 4Ad. Along with the announcement, the Big Thief member has shared the single “Sadness As a Gift.”
Bright Future will be Lenker’s first album since 2020’s dual albums, Songs and Instrumentals, and was co-produced by longtime collaborator Philip Weinrobe. Embracing the unique blend of lo-fi acoustic and alternative that Lenker has become a master of, the album prominently features contributions from Nick Hakim, Mat Davidson, and Josefin Runsteen, all of whom were integral to the album’s sound, according to Lenker.
“I think the thing these people have in common [is that] they are some of the best listeners I know musically,” Lenker said in a statement, reflecting on the live-in-the-room recording process the musicians employed. “They have extreme presence… It felt like everyone’s nervous systems released. Once we were In the song, somehow we just knew.

In the latest bid to break out of the mid-agency pack, APA has formed a strategic partnership with Europa Content, the boutique literary and production company founded by Marc Gerald.
The goal is to expand APA’s intellectual property and media rights division led by Steve Fisher and Debbie Deuble Hill and to increase resources for both APA and Europa Content clients and creators across all media.
Having access to a publishing house has been a key engine of growth for many agencies, allowing for cross-company collaborations and access to content and intellectual property. APA sees it as a next step as it seeks to position itself apart from the mid-agency level and attempts to position itself as an alternative to top-tier agencies such as CAA, UTA and WME.
“We are thrilled to expand our shared business with Marc and his incredible team at Europa Content,” said Kyle Loftus, head of content development at APA.

3-D in CinemaScope? That seems like a strange combination, but this obscure treasure hunt adventure with Joanne Dru and Mark Stevens is indeed billed as being filmed in the ‘Miracle of Stereo-Vision,’ five years after the demise of Hollywood’s first fling with ‘depthies.’ Kino and the 3-D Film Archives extras include two vintage 3-D shorts, one of them never screened in 3-D.

It’s night and a ship moves in the water through a dark curtain of fog. We see George Raft as Captain Johnny Angel on the bridge peering out into the pea soup as another vessel looms ahead suddenly in the darkness, abandoned and drifting in the water. Raft sounds the foghorn but there’s no response. He boards the derelict with several of his crew to search for clues as to what happened. They go below to the captain’s quarters and finds it wrecked. A picture lies on a desk in a shattered frame. Raft picks it up and we see it is a picture of him as a younger man standing next to an older one. A crew member enters the cabin and says there is blood below, and water in the hold, but no signs of life.

Lady in the Lake
Directed by Robert Montgomery
Screenplay by Steve Fisher, novel by Raymond Chandler
U.S.A., 1947
In the history of film noir, only so many entries stands a good chance of taking the crown for ‘most original concept.’ Many efforts of the noir genre function as detective stories (although they should not be confused with police procedurals, which really are a different beast), which themselves became popular through the medium of novels. Some books are authored with use of first person narrative, which is an exciting and limitless tool enabling the writer, and by extension the reader, to discover what goes on the mind of the central character and sometimes side characters. What director and star Robert Montgomery chose to do with the 1947 film Lady in the Lake was borrow the first person narrative tool and translate it to the silver screen. Even professional pranksters get their butts kicked sometimes. Last week, Jackass star Bam Margera was hospitalized in Oregon after his kayak plunged over a 100-foot cliff. Contour, a hands-free HD camera, posted a picture of the cliff that banged up Bam on their Facebook page Friday. And based on the shot of the 32-year-old daredevil and professional kayaker Steve Fisher "dropping a massive waterfall in a a tandem kayek," as the caption says, it makes total sense why Bam sustained some injuries from the fall. The MTV reality star did have to undergo a hernia operation as a result of the drop, but fortunately, he's already on the mend. Last week he tweeted a shot of himself post-surgery in the...

Color us unsurprised.
"Jackass" star Bam Margera has found himself in the hospital after kayaking off a 100-foot waterfall on Wednesday (May 30). Margera, who had to undergo a hernia operation, was riding in a tandem kayak with pro Steve Fisher during the stunt.
Margera was to attend an art show in West Chester, Pa on Friday (June 1), but he writes on Twitter that he's still recuperating. "Can't make it to the show tonight, in hospital still," he says. Margera also offered a photo of him laying in the recovery room.
This is far from the first time Margera's injured himself doing something most people would never consider. And we get the sense that this also won't be the last time he gets hurt either.
It's unclear whether Fisher was injured in the incident.

Jackass prankster Bam Margera has undergone an emergency hernia operation after injuring himself during a kayaking stunt in Oregon.
The TV joker attempted a daring 100-foot (30.48-metre) drop in a kayak with professional sportsman Steve Fisher on Thursday, but the fall did not go as planned.
Margera posted a photo of himself in a tandem kayak with Fisher on his Twitter.com page, and followed it up hours later with another shot of him in a hospital bed, alongside the caption, "Hernia operation after 100ft kayak drop".
Margera, who was still in hospital on Friday, is no stranger to doctors - he has been hospitalised numerous times following outrageous stunts.
He was hospitalised with broken bones last summer after falling down a flight of stairs while "horsing around".

Flix Picks [1] is a new semi-regular feature that explores the depths of my Netflix queue and allows me the chance to catch up with some older films that I’ve not yet seen. You can count me as one of the many cinephiles in the Alfred Hitchcock fan club. I’ve seen a wide array of his films, although mainly the more well-known titles. So, in an attempt to widen my knowledge on the Master of Suspense, I recently caught up with Foreign Correspondent, a slightly less talked-about film in his canon. As usual, thanks to my handy-dandy Netflix account, it was an easy find. Set during the days leading up to WWII, Foreign Correspondent tells the story of Johnny Jones, a crime reporter who’s editor assigns him to Europe after becoming fed up with vague reports from other correspondents. Despite a lack of experience in foreign affairs, Johnny...
