- Margaret Fitts grew up in Los Angeles. She graduated from Stanford University in 1945, where she studied speech, drama and journalism. She wrote a regular column for the Stanford Daily in her senior year. Ms. Fitts applied to the junior writers' program at MGM and was accepted, signing a studio contract in 1947. Her scripts were primarily adaptations, a noted exception being her original story and screenplay, The King and Four Queens.
