My Sister’s Keeper
Directed by: Nick Cassavetes
Cast: Cameron Diaz, Abigail Breslin, Sofia Vassilieva, Jason Patric
Running Time: 1 hr 45
Rating: PG 13
Plot: Anna Fitzgerald (Abigail Breslin) seeks medical emancipation so that she doesn’t have to donate organs to her sister, Kate (Sofia Vassilieva), who is dying from leukemia. And here’s the scoop: that’s the red-herring plot. The underlying story is fully dedicated to the lives of extremely likable people and how they handle the loss of their beloved.
Who’s It For? I would say anyone who likes dramas who isn’t suicidal, but it would come off as glib, and I don’t mean it like that. If you are easily affected by onscreen sadness, expect this movie to stay lodged in your throat for sometime.
Expectations: I had no interest in seeing this movie and I was prepared for an onslaught of formulaic manipulation,...

My Sister's Keeper
Starring Abigail Breslin, Cameron Diaz, and Sofia Vassilieva
Directed by Nick Cassevetes
Rated PG-13
All movies are manipulative, or at least they try to be. If you're not moved one way or the other, preferably the way the movie wants you to move, then it hasn't really done its job.
But you hear that phrase a lot, "That movie was so manipulative," usually in reference to a tearjerker. That's understandable since it takes more to make the majority of us cry than it does to make us laugh. The emphasized "so" is the key word because the manipulation required is that much greater to get us to tears.
My Sister's Keeper is so manipulative, because it deals graphically and emotionally with a teenager's lifelong struggle with cancer and the way it impacts her family generally but her younger sister specifically. Based on the Jodi Picoult novel, My Sister's Keeper...

Yes, I cried a lot watching "My Sister's Keeper" but it was a joy to meet the talented ladies of the film including Cameron Diaz (Sara Fitzgerald), Abigail Breslin (Anna Fitzgerald), and Sofia Vassilieva (the dying Kate Fitzgerald).
We talked about:
*** The film's character-driven nature
*** Working with "The Notebook's" Nick Cassavetes
*** How each of them got involved with making "My Sister's Keeper"
*** Abigail's turtle named Manny :)
Have fun!
("My Sister's Keeper" from the novel by Jodi Picoult arrives in theaters Friday, June 26th. Don't Miss It!)...
