I'm one of the few 20-something-year-olds who gets excited whenever someone mentions soap operas. Having spent most of my childhood glued to my soaps-loving grandmother's side, I've watched enough episodes of "The Young and the Restless" and "The Bold and the Beautiful" to still know which characters are stirring up trouble today.
While the overly-dramatic plots (and romantic scenes) may have been too much for a five-year-old to fully comprehend, I most certainly couldn't take my eyes off the over-the-top costumes the daytime television actresses wore. Always trendy and sometimes tacky, soap opera character style is in a category of its own.
Since Hulu has resurrected two of the most beloved soap operas, "All My Children" and "One Life to Live," to much fanfare, we've decided to take a look back at soap's characters fashions over the years. Keep reading to find out what style pieces instantly come to mind...

While you might think Susan Lucci had the hardest journey to Daytime Emmy victory, it took Jeanne Cooper 35 years and nine nominations before she won for playing Katharine Chancellor on "The Young and the Restless." The grande dame of daytime died on May 8 at age 84 after a long illness. Cooper began on "Y&R" shortly it premiered in 1973. While her character was an instant success, she was only nominated for the first time in 1989. By then, Katherine had been through alcoholism, a couple of husbands, several feuds with Jill Foster Abbot and even a facelift. That latter storyline was groundbreaking as the actress allowed footage of her own facelift to be used. Prior to even contending at the Daytime Emmys, Cooper had been nominated twice at the Primetime awards: she lost her1962 Supporting Actress nod for “Ben Casey” to Pamela Brown for “Hallmark Hall of Fame” and her 1987 Drama Guest...

It’s been a long, long time since anyone spoke of the wealthy Brooks and the working-class Fosters in the same sentence on CBS’ The Young and the Restless. Most of the original characters created by William J. Bell and Lee Phillip Bell for the show’s debut on March 26, 1973 were eventually eliminated in the ’80s, save for Jill Foster Abbott.
So in honor of the soap’s 40th anniversary today, EW has obtained an exclusive look back at the sudser’s very first episode that aired on CBS.

Why aren't enough women seeking angel and Vc money? And why aren't more women-led startups getting funded? Consider these little known facts:
Women-run tech startups generate more revenue per invested capital and fail less then those led by men, according to New York Entrepreneur Week. "Companies, including information technology, with the highest percentages of women board directors outperformed those with the least by 66%," according to research by Catalyst. "Gender diversity [is] particularly valuable where innovation is key," according to studies by Illuminate Ventures. In 2009 angel investors dished out $17.6 billion to fund startups. Wonder how many funded startups were women-run? 9.4%, according to the 2009 angel investor report Center for Venture Research at University of New Hampshire. Women-owned ventures accounted for 21% of the entrepreneurs that sought angel capital. "Both the number of women seeking angel capital and the percentage that receives angel investments are low compared to the overall market," said the 2009 report.
So why the gender discrepancy?...
