Time magazine’s “Person of the Year” cover star Ashley Judd told a Los Angeles audience that deciding to be the first actor to go on-record with The New York Times with sexual harassment allegations about Harvey Weinstein was “very easy.” “I did it because it was the right thing to do,” she said at The Paley Center for Media during a TimesTalks event on December 5.
Joining Judd on stage were four New York Times reporters, moderator Susan Dominus along with Jodi Kantor, Megan Twohey, and Emily Steel. Exactly two months prior, Kantor and Twohey broke the Weinstein story with a formal investigation into Weinstein’s purported pattern of predatory behavior.
And, just hours before the event, Kantor, Twohey, and Dominus were part of a team that published a 7,500-word article detailing the “complicity machine” that allowed Weinstein to maintain his conduct. Steel was part of the reporting team who...

I’d imagine every one of us, despite our individual life situations, however privileged or difficult they may be, wouldn’t have too much trouble coming up with a pretty long list of people and circumstances for which to be grateful, during the upcoming week traditionally reserved for the expression of thanks as well as throughout the entirety of the year.
Even in our brave new world, where gratitude and humility and generosity of spirit often seem to be in short supply, at the mercy of greed, abuse of power, disregard for the rule of law, and megalomaniac self-interest cynically masquerading as an aggressive strain of nationalist, populist passion, there are good, everyday reasons to look around and take stock of blessings in one’s immediate surroundings.
And speaking specifically as one who has the privilege and opportunity to occasionally write about matters concerning the movies, and even a (very...

Twenty years ago, while doing time in prison for assault with a firearm, Lavonte Stewart thought often about his time playing Little League baseball while growing up on Chicago’s rough South Side.
During his teen years, baseball was what had helped him to stay out of trouble, get good grades and win a college athletic scholarship.
“If I hadn’t fallen in with the wrong group and given in to the temptations of the dark side shortly after I started college, I obviously would have been miles ahead,” Stewart, now 41, tells People. “But prison gave me a lot of time to think.

Switching off Gotham now would be premature damnation of a potentially-excellent show. Rob explains why…
This article talks about Gotham up to episode five. There are no big spoilers, though.
In some corners of the internet, there are those who are already trying to call time on the Gotham TV show. From the small handful of episodes we’ve seen so far (5 have aired stateside and 2 in the UK), a few folk out there are acting all Ra’s al Ghul about the matter and telling us that Gotham is beyond saving and must be allowed to die.
The tone of some of these pieces, we'd suggest, goes beyond criticism into lambasting. It feels somewhat like the cool kids ganging up on the new boy who read the questions wrong in his school entrance exam and landed himself in the bottom set for everything. Sure, there have been mistakes, but...

He may well be one of the most powerful men in Hollywood, but Harvey Weinsten came under scrutiny by renowned British actor John Hurt this evening, when speaking to HeyUGuys on the red carpet at the Critics’ Circle Awards in London.
Notorious producer Weinstein is thought to be releasing a cut-down edition of Bong Joon-ho’s Snowpiercer (which we’ll be seeing at the Berlin Film Festival this coming week), and Hurt, who plays Gilliam in the forthcoming science fiction production, has expressed his disappointment with Weinstein’s involvement, in what he describes as “tinkering”. Hurt has been vocal in his criticism, claiming that a 20 minute sequence is set to be left out of the version released in the United States. You can watch our interview with the incensed actor below.

Chicago – The upcoming political action thriller “Olympus Has Fallen” has a familiar director behind it, the inventive Antoine Fuqua. Known best for “Training Day,” which won the Best Actor Oscar for Denzel Washington, he also directed ‘The Replacement Killers” (1998), “Shooter” (2007) and “Brooklyn’s Finest” (2009).
“Olympus Has Fallen” is somewhat of a departure for Fuqua, as it focuses on a large scale attack on the White House and the performances of an all-star cast. He directs heavy hitters such as Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman and Melissa Leo as government officials in crisis, and keeps up a rapid heartbeat throughout the high concept scenario.

The war isn't over on "Suits." And this time the enemy has connections inside Pearson Hardman itself. Robert Zane, another high-powered attorney, is coming after them and he's out for blood. Oh, and he just happens to be Rachel's father.
Fortunately, the firm is ready for him. Jessica (Gina Torres) and Harvey (Gabriel Macht) are very ready for Zane. In fact, as seen in this video, the two partners are practically salivating over the chance to claim another victory.
It might be kind of complicated though. Robert Zane (played by Wendell Pierce, "The Wire") knows that Pearson Hardman needs a big win to give the impression that everything is still strong internally. Thus, he wants to settle a case. It's kind of like the sacrifice bunt of the legal world.
Not that Harvey and Jessica are fooled by this. They know Zane has just hit "below the belt" and must...

Can't wait for "Suits" to return with new episodes this winter? That's unfortunate. You are still going to have to wait. You can, however, enjoy a few spoilers in the meantime -- USA has released official synopses for the first three episodes coming when the show returns in January.

Bringing to an end one of the best and most memorable trilogies of all time, Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises lit up the box office this year, boldly crossing the $1bn. mark to enter that elusive club that has a very small membership.
It’s been by far one of my favourite films of the year, and with the film due out on Blu-ray/DVD in less than a month, Warner Bros. have released the second trailer for its home entertainment release.
One main thing that the release is missing that a lot of people were hoping for is a commentary from Nolan, but that of course won’t change the fact that I’ll be buying it the day it hits the shelves (or, pre-ordering it and hoping it will arrive a few days early).
“”The Dark Knight Rises” is the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy.

"Do you think it is accidental that the name of the really vicious fire-breathing, four-eyed whatever-it-is villain in this movie is named Bane?" seethed Rush Limbaugh this week about The Dark Knight Rises, the name of whose villain shares perfect consonance with Mitt Romney's venture capital firm.
Never mind that Bane first appeared in a comic book in 1993, as Rachel Maddow was quick to point out on her MSNBC show. The issue was quickly taken up by the ditto heads. "How long will it take for the Obama campaign to link the two,...

Jessica and Harvey struggled to collect supporters in the civil war brewing at Pearson and Hardman, while Mike struggled with "The Choice" that had us all screaming at the television to make him stop.
Oh, yes, the tides were clearly turning on Suits this week.
The firm clearly underwent some serious renovations since we saw it last week, as an entire office bearing Daniel Hardman's name caused a major stir throughout the office.
Jessica and Harvey sure have their work cut out for them.
Their best bet may be to amass funds enough to support lavish omelet bars and rent out stadium seats for a rock legend in order to properly compete.
Or maybe they should simply invest in better employee relationship management between the higher-ups and those on the 46th floor.
Harvey's encounter with Porter was quite the epic disaster, except I hardly think that Harvey can control...

Danny Boyle's supposedly dangerous playlist is nothing of the sort. It just proves we're a nation of stick-in-the-muds and conformists
So the Olympics opening ceremony isn't just going to be Teletubbies Land with sheep? Albion will rise, for the Queen will spontaneously combust when she hears God Save the Queen by the Sex Pistols. A living flame will light the way. Her maj may have been lulled into submission by Gary Barlow and entertained by man of the people Jimmy Carr, but the leaked playlist planned by Danny Boyle is dangerous, man.
There is Relax by Frankie. Sex! There is a bit of Underworld. Drugs – well, lager. There is some Oasis. Rock'n'roll. There is some Handel and stodgy old Clash. For the laydeez there is some Mia and Sugababes. And, of course, some Mike Oldfield and that other famous Brit, Michael Jackson.
It's all very jolly and an essentially British playlist.

Suits fans may have had to endure a brutal nine-month wait for a new episode, but after watching the season 2 premiere, odds are we can all agree it was worth it. Creator Aaron Korsh appears to have had enough time to figure out all the ways he could make a good show even better (and how to fit in Goodfellas and Highlander quotes). Let’s break it down.
• Jessica is in the know, which should mean more screen time for Gina Torres. If Trevor hadn’t told Jessica that Mike was a fraud, any future threats to Mike and Harvey...

Chicago – The female heroine driven film “The Hunger Games” had held the top spot for the past four weeks but has been knocked out by “Think Like a Man” based on Steve Harvey’s best-selling book. The movie is directed by Tim Story and written by Keith Merryman & David A. Newman starring Michael Ealy (“Barbershop”), Jerry Ferrara (“Entourage”), Meagan Good (“The Steve Harvey Show”), Regina Hall (“Death at a Funeral”), Kevin Hart (“The Five-Year Engagement”), Taraji P. Henson (“The Family that Preys”), Terrence J (“Sparkle”), Jenifer Lewis (“Meet the Browns”), Romany Malco (“Baby Mama”), Gary Owen (“Daddy Day Care”), and Gabrielle Union (“Bad Boys 2”). The weekend gross was $34 million almost tripling the reported production budget of $12 million.
The story of “Think Like a Man” follows four men who discover their girlfriends have purchased Harvey’s book and use his advice to shake things up. The men feel betrayed by...

The host of Bet's "106 & Park" by day, emerging actor Terrence J (who also goes by his given name, Terrence Jenkins) is just one of the heartthrobs in the romantic comedy "Think Like a Man," in which a group of friends turn the tables on their women.
In the movie, based on Steve Harvey's best-selling book "Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man," the men find out that their girlfriends have been manipulating them with the help of the advice in Harvey's book. Feeling betrayed, they set out to use the book and manipulate them right back -- with predictably unpredictable results.
Terrence, who plays mama's boy Michael in the film, talked to us about working with Steve Harvey, the romantic advice we should expect from this film and how he'd love to play a certain president.
Did you always know you wanted to act?

In the past, you might have thought that winning an Academy Award for Best Picture would be enough to save a movie from being censored by its own distributor. And you would have been right. Today, however, the Weinstein Company is releasing, to 1,000 theaters, a PG-13 version of The King's Speech (a movie that in its original incarnation was rated R). If you go to see the new version, as I just did, here’s what you’re in for.

Tomorrow, When The War Began 2 (2012), the sequel to Tomorrow, When The War Began, has been green-lit. Tomorrow, When The War Began director/writer Stuart Beattie is returning as our cast members Caitlin Stasey, Phoebe Tonkin, Deniz Akdeniz, Ashleigh Cummings, Chris Pang, and Andrew Ryan. Tomorrow, When The War Began apparently brought in enough during its theatrical run to warrant a sequel. Tomorrow, When The War Began only cost $27 Million to make. Tomorrow, When The War Began 2′s plot synopsis: “The group is in a state of depression. They spend most of the time in Hell whilst the war rages on outside in Wirrawee and Australia. With relationships beginning to grow and conflicts running high, the group eventually meet a band of free Australians known as ‘Harvey’s Heroes’, which is lead by the mysterious Major Harvey.” I have saw the first Tomorrow, When The War Began and it had a...

HollywoodNews.com: I am heartbroken to report that Harvey Fuqua has died of a heart attack at age 80.
A splendid person, a real gentleman, and just a good guy, Harvey was the man behind Motown. He was first the leader of the Moonglows in the 1950s, and wrote the hit “Sincerely.” But then he went to work for Berry Gordy at Motown.
Fuqua’s jobs were myriad–writing, producing, and teaching the Motown acts how to behave in public. His best pal was Marvin Gaye, whose records he produced. Both he and Marvin wound up marrying Gordy’s sisters, respectively, Gwen and Anna. Harvey also worked on dozens of other Motown hits, including many with Johnny Bristol including his classic “Hang On In There Baby.”
Harvey’s place in R&B history cannot be overstated. The fact that it took so long to get him into the...

News that veteran stick-tickler Dodd and East 17 chanteur Harvey are going to be in a Norfolk-set short film is sure to re-draw the map of great screen partnerships
Forget Al Pacino and Robert De Niro in Heat. Forget the two movies that Robert Redford and Paul Newman made together. Forget, even, that scene from Pretty Woman where Richard Gere and Julia Roberts hump each other on the piano. If you're looking for the definitive on-screen partnership of our time, then look no further than Ken Dodd and Brian Harvey from East 17, who'll soon be coming to a 10-minute film set in Norfolk.
Dodd, now 82, and Harvey, still just 35, have apparently been cast in an unnamed short that should soon be doing the festival circuit. Little is known about the film, other than a) it's about a jealous boyfriend who suspects that Brian Harvey is having an affair with...

A recent interview with Cameron Crowe in the pages of Variety reveals that the director, famous for the classics Say Anything and Jerry Maguire, has been working on a biopic of Motown legend Marvin Gaye.
Budget and star have become issues with the film and have prevented it from moving ahead quickly. The music rights have been secured, but the cost of the rest of the production, and the acting talent that will be involved are undecided. Will Smith was apparently courted for the role (naturally) but he passed on the project, which is probably for the best, as he seems like an awkward fit for the part.
Gaye was born on April 2, 1939 in Washington DC and died April 1, 1984 in Los Angeles. He was the son of a Pentecostal minister and learned to sing in church. Signing a contract with Harvey Fuqua in 1959 he followed him to Motown, where he...

For those who believe in an afterlife, it will hopefully be a better experience than Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones. Though some of it is set in the "in between", a sort-of purgatory for murdered teen Susie Salmon (Saoirse Ronan, Atonement), it feels more like a scene from Dante's Inferno. What did I do to deserve watching one of cinema's most talented, imaginative filmmakers make a special-effects-laden version of a Hallmark film?
Based on Alice Sebold's popular but altogether average novel, The Lovely Bones seems to fit well with the rest of Jackson's resume. Each of his films, even the fact-based Heavenly Creatures, features some element of fantasy, though some films rely on it more than others. The Lovely Bones incorporates the elements of a crime thriller with the young victim's version of what lies beyond our world, adding beauty and whimsy to an otherwise unbearably dark story...

Welcome to The Pull List Comic Reviews! First off, a huge thanks to John Carle for covering the column last week, he did a fantastic job. Make sure you check out The Flickcast’s podcast this week where he was also a guest-host! The dude’s everywhere. Okay, on with the comics. As always, Warning: Spoilers Ahead.
Pull Of The Week:
Lobo: Highway to Hell #1 (of 2) – DC Comics – $6.99 Us
Writer: Scott Ian Artist: Sam Keith
Score: 8.5
You’re sitting there, asking yourself “How in all that is holy is Lobo: Highway to Hell the Pull of the Week?” Believe me, I’m asking myself that very same question. You see I’ve never dug Lobo. I’ve read a good chunk of his various issues over the years and I’ve never seen the attraction to the character, but seeing as variety is the spice of life, I figured I’d give this a shot.
