- Many baseball fans blame him for costing the Baltimore Orioles the 1996 American League pennant, due to a call he made in the Championship Series awarding a New York Yankees hitter a home run after a young fan had reached over the outfield wall and caught a ball headed for an Orioles outfielder's glove. The Orioles went on to lose the series to the Yankees.
