A new face is about to pop up in Manhattan, Kansas: Olafur Darri Ólafsson is joining the Season 3 cast of Somebody Somewhere on HBO.
Ólafsson will recur as Iceland, the new renter of Sam’s (Bridget Everett) family farm. Production on the seven-episode season recently wrapped in Chicagoland.
From Mighty Mint, Duplass Brothers Productions, and executive producers Everett, Hannah Bos & Paul Thureen, the series follows Sam, a true Kansan on the surface, but, beneath it all, struggling to fit the hometown mold. Grappling with loss and acceptance, singing is Sam’s saving grace and leads her on a journey to discover herself and a community of outsiders who don’t fit in but don’t give up, showing that finding your people, and finding your voice, is possible. Anywhere. Somewhere. In season three, we see growth against all odds.

HBO is heading back to the Little Apple.
The premium cable outlet has renewed Somebody Somewhere for a third season. The pickup comes a few days after the dramedy starring Bridget Everett and set in Manhattan, Kansas, concluded its seven-episode second season.
“We’re thrilled to announce the third season of the honest and impactful Somebody Somewhere,” said Amy Gravitt, executive vp comedy programming at HBO and Max. “Nothing makes us smile quite like this show, which never fails to remind us that life is made up of the small moments, that family can be chosen, and that dreams don’t have deadlines.”
The series draws relatively modest viewership in relation to some other HBO originals, but it’s been a critical favorite. Season one received an AFI Award as one of the top 10 TV programs of 2022.

The Season 2 finale of HBO’s sleeper hit comedy series “Somebody Somewhere” featured a wedding and a loving tribute to Ed, the beloved character played by late actor Mike Hagerty in Season 1.
The episode, titled “To Ed,” followed as most of the cast came together to celebrate Fred’s (Murray Hill) wedding at the old barn where Ed used to spend his time, now refurbished into a picturesque event space by Tricia (Mary Catherine Garrison) for the special occasion. In the midst of the festivities, Fred made a speech and called a toast to his dear friend — who was written out of the story earlier in the season following Hagerty’s death, by the announcement he’d gone on a long-term boat trip with his brother.
For series star Bridget Everett, the finale marked the touching end to a season-long celebration of the actor’s influence on the show.

HBO’s offbeat comedy Somebody Somewhere stars Bridget Everett as Sam, who’s struggling with doubt and self-worth while trying to find her place in the world after the death of a sister Holly. The first season ended with Sam, who’s back living in her Kansas hometown, crooning two songs that capture the heartfelt series’ unique, idiosyncratic spirit. The first, belted out on a party bus, is hilariously brash and raunchy like Everett’s beloved downtown alt-cabaret shows. In the second, she serenades her newfound bestie Joel (Jeff Hiller) inside a barn on her family’s farm, with an ode to how their friendship helped save her. In Season 2, Sam tries to make sense of her life and works on her relationship with other sister Tricia (Mary Catherine Garrison), but “long-standing resentments and secrets get in the way,” Everett says. Still, Sam is figuring out “how to love and let go,...

Bridget Everett still has restaurant stress dreams. Never mind that she is a writer, star, executive producer, and the driving force behind Somebody Somewhere, the critically acclaimed, cult-favorite HBO show about a directionless woman who moves back to her hometown in middle age (Season Two premieres April 23). When Everett sleeps, it’s the screaming customers and missing orders from her days as a server that haunt her.

HBO has released a trailer for the sophomore outing of “Somebody Somewhere,” the critically acclaimed comedy series inspired by the life of star Bridget Everett. Billed by HBO as “a totally platonic love story,” the series will continue to explore love, loss, and acceptance as it focuses on the relationship between Sam (Everett) and Joel (Jeff Hiller), her new best friend who introduces her to a chosen family of self-perceived “outsiders.”
The trailer opens with the duo singing and dancing as they make martinis and reveals that Joel has temporarily moved in with Sam. This new dynamic is certain to provide more heartwarming moments and potential new conflicts as the show’s emcee of sorts, Fred (Murray Hill), is depicted explaining to Sam that, “Families aren’t easy. Not even the fun ones.”

Season one of HBO’s Somebody Somewhere largely focused on lead character Sam’s (Bridget Everett) halting attempts to fit back into her Kansas hometown. The trailer for season two of the series suggests she’s feeling at least a little more comfortable there.
The trailer shows that Sam and Joel (Jeff Hiller) have moved in together — “It’s solely a financial arrangement,” Joel says — and settled into a routine. Sam also takes a few more steps to further her singing, approaching her old music teacher for voice lessons.
Hiller also told The Hollywood Reporter that Joel will have a new love interest in season two, played by Tim Bagley (Grace and Frankie). “I originally thought that Joel might get back together with his season one boyfriend, but I think this story is much more interesting,” he said.
The two-minute clip also showcases the series’ mix of comedy and emotion...

HBO announced that “Somebody Somewhere” has been renewed for a second season.
The comedy series debuted on Jan. 16 and will air its Season 1 finale on Feb. 27. Stand-up comedian Bridget Everett stars as Sam, a nihilistic Kansan woman struggling to fit into her hometown. She grapples with grief from the death of her sister as well as complicated relationships with her parents and surviving sister, but finds that singing is her saving grace, which leads her on a journey to discover herself and a new community of outsiders.
Jeff Hiller, Mary Catherine Garrison, Danny McCarthy and Mike Hagerty also star, with Murray Hill, Jon Hudson Odom, Heidi Johanningmeier and Jane Brody in recurring roles. Variety‘s review praised the show’s balance in outlook, saying that “the achievement of ‘Somebody Somewhere’ is how it puts Sam’s cynicism to the test: It suggests that she is also taking the easy way...

Everett is also an executive producer on the series, which was co-created and executive produced by Hannah Bos & Paul Thureen, writers on HBO’s “High Maintenance.”
“Bridget Everett brings such warmth to the screen,” Amy Gravitt, executive vice president of HBO Programming, said in a statement, “It’s been an absolute joy to see audiences share a sense of belonging with this ensemble. We’re delighted to have Hannah and Paul remind us all where we come from in another season of ‘Somebody Somewhere’.”

In the new series “Somebody Somewhere,” Bridget Everett’s character isn’t pleased when her friend Joel (Jeff Hiller), a gay man having a crisis, shares his vision board. “Dream all you want, Joel, but this is the future,” she declares, gesturing at the beige room around her to indicate the world they’re doomed to inhabit. “We’re in our 40s. And it hasn’t happened yet, has it? It hasn’t happened for you, it hasn’t happened for me — and that’s because it’s not going to happen.”
It’s a moment of nihilism on a comedy that finds a way to grace only after establishing pain at its heart. Here, Everett — a Kansas-born stand-up and cabaret artist known for her appearances on “Inside Amy Schumer” — plays Sam, a version of herself had she never been discovered. Stars: Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo, Adam Levine, James Corden, Hailee Steinfeld, Mos Def, Catherine Keener, Mary Catherine Garrison, Marco Assante | Written and Directed by John Carney
When I started to watch Begin Again my initial thoughts were of déjà vu. Seemingly following the same style of plot similar to Not Another Happy Ending, I expected Mark Ruffalo’s music producer to fall in love with Keira Knightley’s aspiring musician. Happily though I found that assumptions can often be wrong.
When Dan (Mark Ruffalo) loses his position at the record label he helped form it looks like he’s finally lost everything. Spending the day getting drunk, he ends up at a small bar where he discovers Gretta (Keira Knighley) performing one of her songs at an open-mic night. Captivated by her talent he offers to help her become a star, triggering a change not only in her life but his too.

The Tony Nominations just came out and one of the funniest shows of the season, Lend Me A Tenor, was nominated for Best Revival of a Play.
I saw the show when I was in New York and it was hands down the best show I saw that week – and I saw some great shows! The moment the lights went down to the curtain call (one of the most inspired curtain calls I’ve ever seen), I never stopped laughing. Lend Me A Tenor does not disappoint.
One of the reasons the show is so good is because of Mary Catherine Garrison. She plays Maggie, Max’s (Justin Bartha) love interest in a show that is over-flowing with talent. Directed by Stanley Tucci, is also stars Tony Shalhoub, Anthony Lapaglia, Jan Maxwell and Brooke Adams, Mary Catherine shines in the role as the”virginal” damsel.
