Filmmaker Tim Burton is known for his gothic aesthetics and choosing to tell stories of weird characters. The filmmaker has put his stamp on blockbusters such as Batman as well as more personal stories such as Big Fish. He will be returning to one of his most beloved franchises with the Michael Keaton starrer Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
One movie in his filmography that stands out from the rest is his 2001 revival of Planet of the Apes. The project served as a remake of the 1968 classic sci-fi film, and starred Mark Wahlberg, Helena Bonham Carter, and more. The film was not received well upon release and is often considered to be a subpar remake of the original. Actor Paul Giamatti, who played Limbo, spoke about his experience while shooting the film.

Michael Douglas is in terrific form as Benjamin Franklin in Apple TV’s new historical limited series “Franklin” but he isn’t the only actor to emerge with awards whispers whizzing through the air. Veteran actor Eddie Marsan features in a key supporting role as John Adams and delivers one of the finest performances of his career while also shining a new light onto a man that many actors have depicted before.
The limited series follows Franklin’s eight years in France as he tried to persuade King Louis XVI (Tom Pezier) to join the colonies’ cause and aid them in the American Revolutionary War. The scenes between Douglas and Marsan are nothing short of spectacular and Marsan nails his performance as Adams, as noted by critics.
Clint Worthington (Roger Ebert) noted: “Marsan’s energy as Adams is decidedly different from Paul Giamatti’s in Ellis’ original 2008 miniseries—“Franklin” feels...

Tobias Menzies has become one of our most reliably excellent actors of late. Classically trained, he had an extensive theatre career in his native England during the noughties and early 2010s before he rose to prominence with roles in “Game of Thrones” and “Outlander.”
Menzies’ profile then increased further thanks to his lauded portrayal of Prince Phillip in “The Crown” and his stock has again risen thanks to his role as another major historical figure in Apple TV’s “Manhunt.” The acclaimed limited series follows the death of President Abraham Lincoln (played by Hamish Linklater) and the subsequent 12-day manhunt for assassin John Wilkes Booth (Anthony Boyle).
Menzies stars as Edwin Stanton, the Secretary of State and personal friend of Lincoln who headed up the hunt for Booth. Menzies proves himself capable of carrying this compelling show entirely on his own. His complex, gruff portrayal of Stanton is what makes the series soar,...

Stars: Paul Giamatti, Dominic Sessa, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Carrie Preston, Brady Hepner, Ian Dolley, Jim Kaplan, Michael Provost, Tate Donovan | Written by David Hemingson | Directed by Alexander Payne
Having not released a film since 2017’s Downsizing, director Alexander Payne follows up what is considered the weakest film of his career with an absolutely wonderful work. At the Barton boarding school, bad-tempered professor Paul Hunham (Paul Giamatti) is forced to remain on campus during the Christmas break to look after a handful of students with nowhere to go – collectively known as The Holdovers. Across the break, he forms a bond with student Angus Tully (Dominic Sessa) and head cook Mary (Da’Vine Joy Randolph).
From the opening moments where the studio logos and ratings title card appear in retro styles, Payne recreates the feel of a ‘70s feature throughout his latest work. The combination of aesthetic and story brings to mind a Hal Ashby film,...

It’s no surprise that some movies end up being more hyped around than some others, but all the internet buzz doesn't always mean the film is going to actually be a great one. However, history shows that the movies that are all over social media usually are the ones who do well.
One of the most hyped movies of 2023 was Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, no doubt. The story of the father of the atomic bomb featuring brilliant Cillian Murphy ended up being a huge success among the viewers and showed amazing box office.
But what's more, the movie bagged seven Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor as well. However, before that happened, there were a lot of speculations about which movie would end up taking home the Best Picture Award.

Cillian Murphy capped off his domination of awards season by claiming the top acting prize for film on home soil.
The Oscar, BAFTA, Golden Globe and SAG award winner on Saturday night added perhaps a final statue to his flawless haul of honors for Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer,” when he was named best lead actor at the 21st Irish Film and TV Academy Awards.
“God, I’m still so brutal at this,” the famously shy actor said on collecting the award, presented to him by “Killers of the Flower Moon” star and fellow recent awards circuit regular Lily Gladstone. “But being in this room is so special — being at home, with people that I love and admire amongst my fellow nominees and some of my favorite people.” Speaking backstage afterwards at the Dublin Royal Convention Centre, he added: “It feels lovely being home with so many friends and colleagues.”

What if we blend the elite private school setting of Robin Williams’ Dead Poets Society, the buddy humor and road atmosphere of Steve Martin’s Planes, Trains and Automobiles with Home Alone’s Christmas vibe? This seems to be a crazy mix, but it’s exactly what the best movie of the last year was, and it finally finds a new home on Prime Video.
Set in the early 1970s, the movie starts by showing a strict and seemingly erratic teacher of a boarding school in New England, Paul Hunham, who is forced to remain here on the Christmas break to observe the students who have nowhere to go on a holiday.
Hunham is then left with the school’s cafeteria manager, the charismatic Mary, and with a smart, though troublesome teenage student, Angus, and the trio are forced to meet the New Year together and to encounter each other’s inner conflicts and mysteries.

Fans may have said their goodbyes to the Showtime series, but the world created within it is yet to be over, with a spinoff already planned and greenlit.
In October 2023, fans of the hit TV series learned that Showtime plans to have not one – or two, mind you – spinoff of the successful series but four.
Hopefully, it won’t go the way most of “Game of Thrones’” spinoffs have gone and every one of them will see production.
Speaking of production, “Billions: London” is gearing up to start filming in August. To maintain familiarity with the original show, even though we’re headed to a brand new location, the network has wisely retained original creators and executive producers Brian Koppelman and David Levien.

Burger is helming the kickoff episode, currently shooting, as well as the second. He will also serve as exec producer.
Motorheads stars Ryan Phillippe as a former NASCAR mechanic who now runs his own auto body shop in a Rustbelt town in Pennsylvania. This year’s races for Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress were over before they started. Robert Downey Jr. in “Oppenheimer” and Da’Vine Joy Randolph in “The Holdovers” took leads in the Gold Derby odds in their respective categories early in the season. They both went on to pick up Golden Globe, Critics Choice, BAFTA and SAG Awards. By the time the Oscars rolled around, there was a “near zero” chance of either of them losing.
In contrast, the lead acting contests provided considerably more suspense. Bradley Cooper in “Maestro,” Paul Giamatti in “The Holdovers” and Cillian Murphy in “Oppenheimer” were all looking strong at different point in the derby, before Murphy really exploded and ultimately won the Best Actor Oscar. And Lily Gladstone in “Killers of the Flower Moon” and Emma Stone in “Poor Things” kept trading the top spot in the Best Actress odds. Gladstone finally reclaimed...

If curating the Best Action Movies of All Time felt borderline impossible, then ranking just the top entries from this century is Mission Barely Manageable.
Most franchise IP blockbusters released to big box office hauls in recent years could qualify as “action movies” in one way or another. That’s particularly true when it comes to the omnipresent cultural phenomenon we call superhero films. It can be tempting to write off the entire action genre when all you see is the over-pixelated epics about super-somethings stopping intergalactic injustice that make up an increasingly large chunk of modern Hollywood. However, the action movies that depend less on fetishized source material have yielded some of the most personal higher-budget workaround. When done well, action movies can tell great character-driven stories through movement. Action — acted or animated — is simply drama made dynamic.
That principle is what separates so many of the movies on...

There have been rumors that another film was in the works, and Imelda Staunton, who has played Maud Bagshaw in the first two movies, confirmed in a new interview.
Keep reading to find out what she revealed…
“There will be the final film – there you go,” Imelda told BBC Radio 2′s Zoe Ball, via Deadline.
After Zoe joked that she hoped Imelda wouldn’t get in trouble for the reveal, the actress stated, “I don’t care.”
A recent report suggests that filming will begin this summer at Highclere Castle in Hampshire, England, where the show has taken place all these years.
There’s also another report that claims Paul Giamatti will reprise his one episode role of Harold Levinson in the third movie.
None of these reports have been confirmed by Focus Features, who produces the films, at the time of this post.

Downton Abbey is getting a “final” chapter, according to Imelda Staunton.
The actress, who played Queen Mary’s lady-in-waiting Lady Maud Bagshaw in the first two films, has confirmed reports that a third movie is in the works.
Asked about Downton Abbey rumors by BBC Radio 2 breakfast show host Zoe Ball, Staunton said: “There will be the final film – there you go.”
Ball joked that she hoped Staunton was not going to get into trouble for the revelation, to which the actress replied: “I don’t care.”
Julian Fellowes’ wildly successful period drama started life as a television series on ITV in 2011. It went on to spawn six seasons and two movies, helping put British drama on the map internationally.
Staunton’s comments followed a report in The Sun on Wednesday, which claimed that the third movie will film at Highclere Castle over the summer and premiere next year.

When Dwayne Johnson & Emily Blunt Were Warned By Disney Over Their S*x Toy Joke During Jungle Cruise Promotion (Photo Credit – IMDb)
Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt share a fantastic dynamic, and it all began with their film Jungle Cruise. The former WWE champion might reunite again with the Oppenheimer star for the upcoming mixed martial arts movie The Smashing Machine. Dwayne and Emily’s fun banter is often shown in their interviews. At one point, they went a little bit overboard and received a call from Disney asking them to dial it down a bit when their banter began to involve adult toys.
Their film Jungle Cruise came out in 2021, and besides Emily and Dwayne, it also featured Jack Whitehall, Jesse Plemons, and Paul Giamatti in significant roles. The movie was based on Disneyland’s theme park ride, in which a small riverboat takes a group of travelers through...

Oscars 2024: How closely did Golden Globes, BAFTAs, Critics Choice and SAG Awards match the academy?
With the 96th Oscars done and dusted, we can now reflect on lessons learned throughout the awards season. Specifically, which precursors most closely matched — and perhaps had the greatest influence on — the motion picture academy. Let’s look at the four top televised or streamed awards shows.

These awards, revamped with an expanded voting body after years of controversy involving the small and insular Hollywood Foreign Press Association, don’t have most of the craft categories that the Oscars have, so we’re mostly looking at above-the-line influence here. And since they have separate awards for musical/comedy films and drama films, they have extra chances to influence awards voters. All in all, these matched the Oscar winners almost perfectly. The one place they didn’t agree was in the race for international film, where the Globe winner,...

Every Angeleno knows — and every tourist finds out — that spending time in Hollywood does not translate into hobnobbing with celebrities. For the three weeks of my contract job at the Tcl Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, friends and family asked if I had seen any celebrities. Every time, the answer was no.
As my time in Hollywood drew to a close, I knew I had one last shot. The day before I left for home, the Academy Awards would be held at the Dolby Theatre, mere steps away from the Chinese Theatre and my Airbnb. All of Hollywood’s biggest stars would be on the red carpet. I couldn’t lose.
I had been tracking preparations for the big event for over a week and a half. The city started closing down streets to prepare on February 29, and security was tight. This year, unlike previous years, large metal fencing was...

Sunday’s Oscar telecast delivered a rare moment in the sun for some of Hollywood’s most unsung heroes: Personal publicists. And while TV viewers might’ve wondered why they got so much love, those in the audience at the 2024 Oscars might argue the shine was due to a classic case of reverse psychology.

British screenwriter Simon Stephenson has accused the makers of The Holdovers of plagiarism, saying its similarity to his 2013 script, Frisco, is “brazen”.
Mere hours before Alexander Payne’s comedy drama The Holdovers was garlanded with an Oscar win – Da’Vine Joy Randolph walked off with a Best Supporting Actress gong – controversy suddenly blew up thanks to a report published by Variety.
According to British novelist and screenwriter Simon Stephenson – whose credits include The Electrical Life Of Louis Wain – The Holdovers was “plagiarised line by line” from Frisco, a screenplay he wrote in 2013.
One of the scripts shortlisted for 2013’s Black List of unproduced screenplays, Frisco is about a middle-aged, grouchy pediatrician who strikes up an unlikely friendship with a 15 year-old patient. This, Stephenson has argued, is markedly similar to the premise of The Holdovers, in which a middle-aged, grouchy teacher (played by Paul Giamatti in the film) strikes up an...

Christopher Nolan can hear the music: Oppenheimer had a huge night at the 2024 Oscars, earning seven awards at the ceremony in Hollywood – including Best Picture, Directing for filmmaker Christopher Nolan, Actor In A Leading Role for Cillian Murphy, and Actor In A Supporting Role for Robert Downey Jr. It marks Nolan’s first Oscar win, for a three-hour bomb-based biopic that swept multiplexes through last summer.
Speaking on stage for his Directing win, Nolan noted how young an artform cinema remains, with so much potential for the future. “Movies are just over 100 years old. Imagine being 100 years into painting,” he said. “We don’t know where this incredible journey is going from here.” He also hailed Emma Thomas, “producer of all our films, and all our children. I love you.” Shortly after, Thomas repaid the favour as Oppenheimer won Best Picture. “The reason this movie was the movie it was,...
