Members of the Directors Guild of America are now poring through the details on the new labor contract that is up for a ratification vote, and some of them are raising objections to the guild’s negotiated protections regarding AI use based on a two-word phrase: “without consultation.”
In the summary of the new contract sent to members on Wednesday, the DGA says that there are new rules in place prohibiting the use of generative AI — the type powering ChatGPT and other text- and image-output tools — “in connection with creative elements without consultation with the Director or other DGA-covered employees consistent with the requirements of the DGA Basic Agreement.”
When asked by TheWrap for clarification on what those requirements are, the DGA pointed to section 7-202 of the DGA Creative Rights agreement with studios,...

Get ready for a heavy dose of backwoods butchery with Timber Falls, which is now streaming on the Bloody Disgusting-powered Screambox streaming service.
Originally released in December of 2007, the Tony Giglio-directed slasher begins when a weekend of camping in the mountains becomes an excursion into hell for a young couple, who become pawns in a grotesque plot hatched by deranged locals. It stars Josh Randall and Brianna Brown.
The film is said to be in the tradition of Stephen King’s Desperation.
Interesting to note for fans of the Wrong Turn movies, Timber Falls was released in Brazil with the title Wrong Turn 2. In Mexico it was released with the title Wrong Turn 3!
Writing for Dread Central at the time, Steve Barton awarded the film a score of 3.5 out of 5, writing, “Timber Falls proves itself to be a cut above the paint-by-numbers crap we’re usually force fed and...

This The Walking Dead review contains spoilers.
The Walking Dead Season 11 Episode 24
At a certain point in a band’s career, there’s no point in making new albums except to have an excuse to tour. When the band is touring, the expectation is that the fans will politely sit through two or three new songs and bide their time until it’s time to play the hits. Not too long after that point, bands tour solely to play the hits. The Walking Dead is at that point, and they have an extensive catalog of hits to dip into to make sure that the series finale is a memorable one indeed. “Rest In Peace” might not have the energy or potency of a younger, hipper series, but there are a few surprises left in both the proverbial and literal gas tank.

Do not be deceived by the title of Doom: Annihilation, or the fact that IMDb claims it “follows” Andrzej Bartkowiak’s mostly-awful Doom. The new film from writer/director Tony Giglio (S.W.A.T. Under Siege) is a remake, not a sequel, and despite its low budget it’s bound to satisfy more fans of the historic video game than […]...

In case you’re wondering, before I start this review let me say, this Is Doom… All the aspects of the classic iD Software title are present and correct: from the transporting gates to the coloured keycards, from the weapons to the set/level design (with a brilliant nod to the intermission screen from the first game early on in the film), it’s all here in what can only be described as one of the most faithful video game adaptations to have ever been produced… Though there has been one liberty taken with the Doom franchise – this films “Doom guy” is actually a Doom girl, in the form of actress Amy...

Universal have released a brand new trailer for its upcoming franchise reboot Doom: Annihilation, which is based upon the iconic Doom video game series (as was the original movie starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) and comes from Universal’s Dtv arm, Universal 1440 Entertainment, who were responsible for bringing us the many, many Scorpion King sequels, the Fantastic Death Race Dtv prequel franchise.
This time round the cast includes Amy Manson, Luke Allen-Gale, Dominic Mafham and Nina Bergman and the film is directed by one of my favourite filmmakers, Tony Giglio, who previously directed the superb slasher Timber Falls and the “as good as The Raid and Dredd” (at least Imho) actioner Extraction; and who also penned a couple of the Death Race sequels.

Universal 1440 Entertainment has released a new thrilling, intense, and action-packed teaser trailer for Doom: Annihilation. There’s not a lot of footage in the trailer, but as you’ll see it still packs in a lot of cool footage filled with monsters and mayhem.
This isn’t a big-budget Doom movie being released in theaters. This is going straight to home entertainment release, but it still looks like it’ll be a fun flick to watch! Here’s the synopsis:
On the darkest moon of Mars, scientists have found an ancient portal which allows teleportation throughout the universe. Considered to be mankind’s greatest discovery, it’s actually a gateway from hell, unleashing a swarm of demons looking to steal the souls of everyone who gets in their way. It’s up to Lieutenant Joan Dark and an elite unit of Marines to destroy an ever-growing horde of bloodsucking...

We've known that Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has been working on a VOD-bound Doom movie, but now we get our first good look at the movie and an official release date.
"Doom: Annihilation follows a group of space marines as they respond to a distress call from a base on a Martian moon, only to discover it’s been overrun by demonic creatures who threaten to create Hell on Earth. The film stars Amy Manson (”Atlantis”), Dominic Mafham (Ophelia) and Luke Allen-Gale (“Dominion”) and Nina Bergman (The Car: Road to Revenge). Directing the project is Tony Giglio (S.W.A.T.: Under Siege), who also penned the film. The film is executive produced by Lorenzo Di Bonaventura (Bumblebee) and John Wells (“Animal Kingdom”) and is produced by Jeffery Beach (Jarhead 3: The Siege), Phillip Roth (Death Race: 4 Beyond Anarchy) and Ogden Gavanski (Cult of Chucky)."
Doom: Annihilation will be released on October 1st!

The Meg's success has got some people wondering if there's gas in the oversized snake tank.
Resident Evil franchise masterminds Constantin Film and Jb Pictures have got a Titanoboa movie in development. The movie is looking to The Meg for inspiration as it plans to feature the giant extinct snake coming back from the dead somehow to wreak havoc, likely on some wholly unprepared humans.
The Titanoboa movie is being fast-tracked, according to Deadline, and will begin filming next year. There are no cast details to share with you yet, but Tony Giglio is penning the script right now. Jeremy Bolt and Robert Kulzer, the team working to make Monster Hunter a success, are behind the film.

Exclusive: German powerhouse Constantin Film and U.S. outfit Jb Pictures are fast-tracking development on an as-yet-untitled action-horror movie based on the re-emergence of giant snake the Titanoboa. Think The Meg with serpent scales.
Jb Pictures’ Jeremy Bolt and Constantin’s Robert Kulzer are producing the film, which is slated to shoot in 2020. Constantin’s Martin Moszkowicz is executive-producing. This is the same producing team behind the smash Resident Evil movie series and the upcoming franchise hopeful Monster Hunter, another video-game adaptation starring Milla Jovovich.
Tony Giglio, second unit director on Resident Evil: Afterlife and writer-director on upcoming live-action first-person shooter update Doom: Annihilation, is aboard to write the screenplay.
The Titanoboa is an extinct species of giant snake which lived in northeastern Colombia. They could grow up to 12.8 m (42 ft) long and reach a weight of 1,135 kg. The reptile existed around 58 to 60 million years ago and is the largest snake ever discovered.

Doom: Annihilation proves that the only thing scarier than demons on Mars is going direct-to-video.
After fans expressed their concerns regarding Doom: Annihilation (an upcoming direct-to-video Doom movie adaptation), iD Software took to Twitter to clarify that they are "not involved with the movie." While the studio did not expand upon that statement, most have rightfully taken it to mean that the developer wants to distance themselves from the film.
In case you missed the initial announcement, Doom: Annihilation is the latest cinematic "effort" from director Tony Giglio. Yes, that is his real name, and yes, he is the same Tony Giglio responsible for Soccer Dog: The Movie and Death Race 2 and 3. It tells the story of a group of space marines who go to mars and end up fighting some demons due to incredible circumstances. In other words, it's the plot of pretty much every...

Tagline: "You're Mission: Don't Die." Another Doom film is coming your way via Universal 1440 Entertainment and director Tony Giglio, titled Doom: Annihilation. Universal 1440 is the same production house behind Death Race 4: Beyond Anarchy and Giglio also wrote this film venture. Both Doom: Annihilation and Death Race 4 where shot in Bulgaria. And, the latest Doom production sounds very similar, in story, to the original 2005 film. Of course, both films are based off of the 1993 first-person action shooter game. This latest release borrows from the game's story with Space Marines investigating a distress call from a Martian moon. The 2019 version stars: Louis Mandylor (Daylight's End), Amy Manson (The Chameleon), Nina Bergman (Assassin X), Gavin Brocker and many more. The film's official teaser trailer is here. The clip does not reveal too much. However, fans of the series can see some of the film's settings and creatures. There is an action...

Well, that was fast! Earlier this morning we shared some first look photos from the upcoming new Doom film, Doom: Annihilation. Now Universal Pictures has released the first teaser trailer for you to watch, and it actually looks like it will be kinda fun.
This film didn’t get the epic big-budget treatment, but there are aspects of the trailer that I like, like that big-ass gun and crazy creatures. It’s also said to be an "intense action-packed" movie. This is only a 30-second teaser, but I’m looking forward to seeing more.

The “space marines” have been confirmed to be the Uac marines, who are the same team from the video game franchise.

The first trailer for “Doom: Annihilation,” the latest live-action adaptation of the popular first-person shooter, is out in the wild.
An NBC/Universal spokesperson told Variety the new “Doom” is being handled by Universal 1440 Entertainment, which produces live-action and animated non-theatrical productions directly for distribution in all media worldwide. That means the film may be direct-to-dvd, or it could possibly appear on a digital platform like Netflix. Universal 1440’s other projects currently include the latest “Tremors” movie, a “Death Race” sequel, and an adaptation of Bruce Coville’s sci-fi classic “Aliens Ate My Homework.”
Bloody Disgusting reports that the upcoming film, written and directed by Tony Giglio, stars Amy Manson (“Atlantis”), Dominic Mafham (“Ophelia”), Luke Allen-Gale (“Dominion”), and Nina Bergman (“The Car: Road to Revenge”) with Lorenzo di Bonaventura of “Transformers” producing. “Animal Kingdom’s” John Wells is also on board as executive producer.

After 2005’s Doom bombed hard at the box office, the video game franchise has largely stayed away from the medium of film, but if Resident Evil can yield at least six commercially successful features, then there’s no reason to think that its fellow action-horror property doesn’t have at least one profitable movie in it.
Enter Doom: Annihilation, which has set itself the more modest goal of a direct-to-video release, and is headed for small screens some time in the fall. To tease the Aliens-style action that’s in store, Bloody Disgusting has premiered a new trailer, and sadly, the response so far isn’t looking too promising, with many criticizing the low-budget look and the questionable dialogue. Still, 30 seconds isn’t a lot to base to a judgment on, and anything as no-frills in its demonic action as this movie looks to be is bound to find some kind of audience.

It’s going on 13 years since the original live-action Doom movie, and it seems the Powers That Be over at Universal are ready for another roll of the dice.
Production on Tony Giglio’s remaining just wrapped in Bulgaria, with Amy Manson (Once Upon A Time) taking point as the film’s de facto lead. She’ll battle demonic forces on Mars, and at least based on some newly-unveiled set photos, it appears all hell has broken loose on the Red Planet.
First spotted by Screen Rant, Giglio recently shared a couple of suitably gory pics from the Doom set, in which you’ll see a fairly nondescript hallway drenched in blood. There’s also a shot of Manson suited, booted and ready to kick demonic ass, though whether she stands a chance against the oncoming demons remains to be seen.

Even if you aren’t exactly a superfan of the Doom franchise, you have to acknowledge its place in video game history. Had you been around in the 1990’s, then odds are you played one of its earliest installments on a PC at some point. If not, then perhaps you’ve at least familiarized yourself with one of the more modern offerings, as the series remains a staple in the horror genre.
Of course, a game that’s able to boast such a great level of popularity and influence was naturally going to receive a cinematic adaptation before long. And that came in 2005 in the form of the theatrically released Doom, which starred the likes of Karl Urban and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

The world just learned of the existence of a Doom reboot just a handful of days ago, and now Dread Central has an alleged scoop from some unnamed sources. The film will be directed by Tony Giglio (Timber Falls, S.W.A.T. Under Siege) and that Once Upon A Time actress Amy Manson is set to play the film's lead.
It's also been revealed the project is being helmed by Universal's non-film division Universal 1440 Entertainment, which appears to mean the project is going straight to DVD or a streaming platform. That makes sense, and would certainly explain why we've heard next to nothing about it until now. Are you more, or less excited for this film now that you've read all this?...

Sony’s Crackle is developing a series reimagining of the Joseph Conrad novel “Heart of Darkness,” Variety has learned exclusively.
The project is set in the future where Earth is a distant memory. It is described as an exploration of what it means to be human on a space odyssey where the survival of the human race hangs in the balance and will explore themes of race, immigration, and colonization much like the book.
“Heart of Darkness” has been adapted in various forms over the years. Perhaps most famously, it served as the inspiration for Francis Ford Coppola’s 1979 Academy Award-winning Vietnam war film “Apocalypse Now” starring Martin Sheen and Marlon Brando in the main roles from the novel.
Cameron Litvack serves as writer as well as showrunner. He will executive produce along with Branden Morgan and Tony Giglio.

It’s been four years since the release of the second sequel to the reboot/remake of Death Race – Death Race: Inferno – and three since the fourth film was sneakily announced by it’s writer Tony Giglio on Twitter, but now Death Race 4, now retitled Death Race: Beyond Anarchy has got its first trailer!
Not to be confused with Roger Corman’s own remake of Death Race, entitled Death Race 2050 (which actually comes from the same production company, Universal 1440 Entertainment), Death Race: Beyond Anarchy sees the return of Danny Trejo as Goldberg and Frederick Koehler as Lists – both of whom appeared in Death Race 2 and Death Race: Inferno. Take one classic 90s action movie, featuring one of the most iconic action heroes of the decade and directed by a king of the genre. Throw in a two-decade wait and a British action star who is almost single-handedly keeping the old-school Dtv vibe alive (and doing a damn good job of it may I add); and you have Hard Target 2.
Twenty-three years. Has it really been that long? I remember the hype around John Woo’s Hard Target – you couldn’t pick up an issue of Impact Magazine for a least a year beforehand without some mention of the film amongst its pages. It’s actually very surprising that we didn’t get a sequel sooner.

I was a huge fan of the first film in what now looks to be a burgeoning new martial arts film franchise. The Man With the Iron Fists was everything I love about martial arts movie and was obviously a labour of love for its star and Wu_Tang Clan member RZA. Sadly, despite the out-pouring of love from wuxia fans and internet geeks like myself, the film did not perform as well as I’m sure the studio would’ve liked. But that doesn’t stop the franchise from continuing as a direct-to-market series – and so we have The Man With the Iron Fists 2.

It’s not often we run news stories here on Nerdly but when it involves one of my favourite writer/directors working today there’s absolutely no way I’m not sharing this with you guys. So what’s the news?
Well Tony Giglio, director of one of the best films of last year – Extraction (think of it as the American successor to The Raid) – has returned, as screenwriter, to the franchise which he managed to successfully reboot on DVD and, with his script for the third film, surpass the original movie… I’m talking Death Race. And more specifically Death Race 4.
I’ll let this image, which Giglio tweeted earlier today, do all the talking… And it goes without saying I’m super-excited to see where the franchise is headed after the amazing third film.

Well it’s that time of year again, end of year/best of list time! If you’ve been reading this site – or Blogomatic3000 – for a while now you’ll know my tastes are generally a little different from the more mainstream sites and so my Top 10′s are too! And whilst there have been plenty of “worthy” titles to get cinephiles excited, I’ve been finding a wealth of movie gold in the direct to DVD market (my cinematic home).
The usual disclaimers apply to this Top 10 – this is a list of my favourite films of the year, the films that got me excited and the ones that remained with me after the credits rolled…
1) Odd Thomas
Official Synopsis: In a California desert town, a short-order cook with clairvoyant abilities encounters a mysterious man with a link to dark, threatening forces.

Director: Roel Reine. Writers: Tony Giglio, Paul W.S. Anderson, Tony Giglio and Paul W.S. Anderson. Cast: Luke Goss, Ving Rhames, Danny Trejo, Dougray Scott, Fred Koehler, and Tanit Phoenix. The Death Race series of films are turning into a bit of a franchise. The original, starring David Carridine, came out way back in 1975. Then, Paul W. S. Anderson remade the original in 2008. The remake starred a very angry Jason Statham. Since 2008, the lead role of stunt driver Frankenstein has been played by the soft-spoken Luke Goss. Director Roel Reine has made the latest two sequels: Death Race 2 (2010) and the film reviewed here, Death Race: Inferno (2013). Reine's latest is his best to date. Reine is perfecting the action film with his frenetic directing style. Meanwhile, this second sequel blends genres. The action genre is prominent, but there are elements of romance and the thriller genre here, as well. Overall, Death Race: Inferno...

I’ll be honest, I completely forgot Roel Reiné was going ahead with another Death Race after already presenting a horrid sequel (Death Race 2) to an averagely enjoyable B-Movie (Death Race), but low and behold here I am writing my review of Death Race 3: Boobs – um, I mean, Death Race 3: Inferno. Seriously though, I thought the above picture was appropriate because half the bloody movie was spent with a camera focused on Tanit Phoenix’s cleavage, only to pull away when a car blew up or someone died. Exploitation is one thing, but I mean c’mon, even I can admit the sexuality was laughably overplayed – and I’m a dude.
Here’s the thing though – Death Race 2 was an unnecessary and slobbish sequel to a B-Movie only hardcore genre junkies enjoyed, literally building up to the final conflict only to abruptly end the film and...

I liked Death Race 3 about as much as I enjoyed Death Race 2, and I have two theories on why stuff like this happens to an intelligent person who can plainly recognize sloppy, low-budget filmmaking when he sees it:
A. When a genre movie is produced directly for the video market, a seasoned viewer cannot help but lower their expectations a little. This makes them a little happier because they spent less money, and it may make them a little more charitable towards low-budget components like wooden acting, cheap sets, or chintzy special effects.
B. When a group of filmmakers are given a limited budget, relatively free rein, and a goal to make a simplistically entertaining action sequel ... sometimes fun things can happen.
That's not to imply that Death Race 3 ever comes close to transcending its "made for DVD" lineage, but to say that, within the realm of what it's shooting for,...
