Alarm Pictures has closed North American rights from Hewes Pictures on “The Protector,” the latest film from Canadian writer-director Lenin M. Sivam, in advance of its July 28 world premiere at Montreal’s Fantasia Festival.
The U.S. streaming release date is set for Monday, Jan. 23. Limited theatrical openings begin the Friday prior at New York’s Film Noir Cinema and at iPic on Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles, where the film will run for one week a piece.
U.K. and Ireland rights to “The Protector” have been acquired by Reel 2 Reel Film/Trinity Entertainment. Level Film will release “The Protector” in Canada.
A U.K.-based film distributor that this year picked up Serbian-German actor Branko Tomovic’s folk horror “Vampir,” Alarm Pictures specialises in edgy yet commercial “genre” film titles. That perfectly describes “The Protector.”

I'll be honest, I can't say I'll miss Pawter's folks even though they went out heroes.
Both teams spent time with their wretched parents, but we quickly realized the elders were being tough attempting to make their kids stronger. Was the time wasted worth it though? Killjoys Season 2 Episode 5 proved there's always room for forgiveness.
There were so many great comedic moments here. Man, I just love Johnny Jaqobis.

Sure, I realize the Killjoys still have to chase warrants while piecing together the larger mysteries of the Quad, but man those "voice-box" Skeever dudes were just plain nasty. Weren't they?
I was hoping this installment might pick up with Khlyen and Fancy Lee, but I guess they had to get the action sequence out of the way early.
Since Johnny's scenes were going to take place on Qresh with Pawter and her parents, I was...

Those abandoned mine scenes were just a tad claustrophobic, weren't they?
It made for a scary/fun hour, as well as an interesting new location I have a feeling we'll be visiting again. Killjoys Season 2 Episode 3 provided several clues that the origin of the green-goo may just be those mossipedes. Why do they not like D'av?
We had an adventure with Pree, this time Alvis was along for the ride. Good times!

That certainly was a creepy way to kick off the episode. Not only was Dutch on the ground among a bunch of skeletons, but Khlyen appeared and stabbed her in the gut. What?!?
Of course, then we jumped back 12 hours which is one of my favorite storytelling devices. Was Khlyen really there? Is Dutch a Six? Would we get any answers throughout the hour?
Before catching up with that opening scene, our heroes...

As the world of "Orphan Black" expanded this season to host a cavalcade of new antagonists, including a male set of clones, the focus remained on Tatiana Maslany and the various female clones she portrayed. This decision was certainly to the benefit of the series which otherwise could have gotten tangled up in its own mythology and easily lost sight of what made the show great in the first place. The third season finale, "History Yet to Be Written", keeps Sarah, Helena, Cosima, and Alison front and center and is all the more satisfying for it. Season finales have a difficult tightrope to walk. They need to function as just another episode in the series but they also carry the burden of wrapping up the previous season while simultaneously setting up the next. "Orphan Black" chose to focus much more on the former than the latter and most of the...

After the explosive (literally. Leekie’s brains were all over Donnie’s car) end to last week’s episode of “Orphan Black,” we open on a car chase. The van being chased stops inside a garage and two guys get out. One of the guys, Sammy, is shot. The other guy takes off the bandana covering his face: he looks exactly like our favorite clones. Sammy asks Tony (Tataiana Maslany) to pass along a message – to Beth Childs. Sarah, Felix (Jordan Gavaris), and Kira (Skyler Wexler) reunite chez Mrs S (Maria Doyle Kennedy), who is still holding Ethan (Andrew Gillies) hostage in [...]

Orphan Black, Season 2, Episode 7, “Knowledge of Causes, and Secret Motion of Things”
Written by Aubrey Nealon
Directed by Ken Girotti
Airs Saturdays at 9pm Est on Bbca
This week, on Orphan Black: Sarah is terrible at roleplay, Kira is proactive, and Vic is molested by elves
Well then. Looks like the writers shared this critic’s concerns about Leekie as a viable villain. This week’s Pulp Fiction-inspired conclusion may be a bit pat and predictable, but it resolves the show’s Leekie problem while moving Donnie in a new and promising direction (and making fabulous use of “Love Is All Around”). Alison’s relationship with her monitor husband has been a confusing blind spot for the show for most of its run—do they care for each other or has Donnie been playing Alison from the start? The show has tried to have it both ways and...
