Scott Kempner, a co-founder of The Dictators and The Del-Lords, died today of complications of early onset dementia at a nursing home in Connecticut. He was 69.
Kempner joined with Andy Shernoff and Ross “The Boss” Friedman to form The Dictators in 1972. The band’s debut album arrived in 1974, The Dictators Go Girl Crazy, considered one of the seminal bridges for punk. The band recorded three albums before splitting up for regular appearances, but have reunited sporadically. Their 1977 sophomore album, Manifest Destiny, edged onto the Billboard 200 at No. 193.
After the initial breakup, Kempner, bassist Manny Caiati, and guitarist Eric Ambel formed The Del-Lords, taking their name from a director of Three Stooges shorts. The group released seven albums throughout their career, including 2013’s Elvis Club.

Dolly Parton isn’t done rocking yet. After sharing her new album Rockstar last week, our November cover star has returned with two new bonus tracks: Her rendition of the Eddie Money’s “Two Tickets to Paradise,” plus a new version of her classic “Jolene” featuring Måneskin.
The Måneskin-assisted version of “Jolene” is available exclusively with the digital download version of Rockstar on Parton’s website, though the country icon did share a preview of the duet on Instagram. It sounds like the new recording stays fairly faithful to the original, with Måneskin’s Damiano David taking on co-lead vocals with Parton.
“Jolene” appears on the deluxe edition of Rockstar, which also features guest features from Sting, Steve Perry, Joan Jett, Mick Fleetwood, Pat Benatar, Brandi Carlile, and many, many more. See a preview clip of Måneskin’s take on “Jolene” below.

Rockstar, the star-studded rock’n’roll album by our November cover star, Dolly Parton, has arrived. Stream it below.
Inspired by her induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022, Rockstar is the 49th full-length release from Parton, and features a variety of new originals and classic rock covers, as well as a heap of guest appearances by artists like Paul McCartney, Elton John, Stevie Nicks, Ringo Starr, Miley Cyrus, Chris Stapleton, Debbie Harry, Nikki Sixx, and many more.
Speaking with Paramore’s Hayley Williams for Consequence’s most recent cover story, Parton explained that when she found out she was voted into the Rock Hall, she “didn’t feel like [she’d] earned it.” To make up for that, she got into the studio and cut a proper rock album, without cutting any corners. “That was important to me: not to half-ass do a record that’s a country girl singing some rock,...

P!Nk didn’t let severe thunderstorms stop her from playing a concert at Nationals Park in Washington, DC on Monday night. Instead, the singer weathered heavy rain and wind in order to the stage the highly choreographed and acrobatic production — which, at one point, even saw her soar high above the stadium in a harness.
The beginning of the concert was briefly delayed as fans were asked to wait inside of the venue’s concourse until the worst of the storms passed. P!Nk finally took the stage around 9:15 p.m. local time but still managed to run through a full 23-song set that mixed greatest hits, covers of Bob Dylan and Sade, and various aerial stunts. “Singin’ in the rain……. What a glorious feeling,” she wrote in an Instagram post alongside video of her performance. Watch the clip and other fan-captured footage below.

Pink received a surprise at her June 25 BST Hyde Park show in London when someone in the crowd threw a plastic bag of gray powder at her onstage while she was performing “Just Like a Pill.” The pop star halted her performance to ask the fan if the substance in the bag was human ashes.

The music artist then set the bag behind a speaker at the front of the stage. After a moment of confusion, she went back to performing. Pink did not refer to the bag again during the concert.

While reflecting on her career, Swift said she always tried to “make the right decision” for herself at the time “whether or not it had ever been successfully done before.” Though oftentimes in the industry many “want an example of something working before,...

St. Vincent delivered a faithful rendition of David Bowie’s “Young Americans” as part of Thursday’s Love Rocks NYC benefit, an all-star concert staged at New York’s Beacon Theater to benefit God’s Love We Deliver.
Backed by a massive band that included backup singers and a horn section, Annie Clark echoed blue-eyed soul-era Bowie, working the crowd and singing with a very Thin White Duke inflection.
St. Vincent’s appearance came one night after she covered Portishead’s “Glory Box” alongside the Roots on The Tonight Show.

Valentine's Day is all about celebrating the love in your life. So this year, Pink is honoring her dad, Jim Moore, who she called her very first Valentine in a bittersweet Instagram tribute on Feb. 14. "Sometimes love leaves us too soon," she wrote in her caption, in reference to Moore's death in 2021. "On Valentine's Day- I cherish the love I have that I can touch- and the love I have in my heart for those who have gone on to the next adventure. This one's for you, Daddy Sir."
She went on to give her followers a brief preview of her new song "When I Get There," the lyrics speaking to some of the grief and love she shares for her father. The video began with Moore's voice in the background, saying, "I thought it would be nice...

Lionel Ritchie was glowing with pride at the induction ceremony for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this weekend in Los Angeles. In this shot, he’s accompanied by Lenny Kravitz, who also presented Ritchie with his award and called Ritchie’s music “the soundtrack of my life, your life, everyone’s life.”
Many bands and musical artists were honored at the ceremony, but the main inductees were Ritchie, Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo, Duran Duran, Eminem, Eurythmics, Dolly Parton and Carly Simon. Lionel Richie soared. Pat Benatar roared. Duran Duran stumbled but stayed sophisticated. Eminem was Eminem.
The four acts found very different ways to celebrate on Saturday night, but all can now say they’re Rock & Roll Hall of Famers. So are Carly Simon, Eurythmics, Harry Belafonte, Judas Priest and Dolly Parton, who gave the honor an enthusiastic embrace after temporarily turning it down.
The first act inducted at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles after a memorable speech from a shaven-headed Robert Downey Jr., Duran Duran took the stage and launched into their 1981 breakthrough hit “Girls on Film.”
The shrieking crowd was there for it, but the music wasn’t. The band was all but inaudible other than singer Simon Le Bon, whose vocals were essentially a cappella.
It was a fun if inauspicious beginning to a mostly slick and often triumphant show.

Founding Duran Duran guitarist Andy Taylor has stage 4 prostate cancer, it was revealed during the group’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction speech on Saturday night.
Stage 4 means the cancer has spread to other organs or parts of the body. It is considered the most serious stage of the disease. Taylor was diagnosed four years ago.

When Dolly Parton learned she was going to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, her first reaction was to tell her supporters not to vote for her since she saw herself as strictly a country artist. But when she walked onstage near the end of the induction ceremony Saturday night at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, after witnessing an incredible evening of music by artists as diverse as Eminem, Judas Priest, Lionel Richie, and Duran Duran, a beaming Parton had a very different take on the situation.

The ladies of "One Tree Hill" are back on the red carpet almost two decades later. Hilarie Burton, Bethany Joy Lenz, and Sophia Bush, who played Peyton Sawyer, Haley James, and Brooke Davis respectively on the aughts show, joined together at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas over the weekend. The trio smiled arm in arm on Sept. 23 before introducing Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo as performers at the annual event. Burton wore a sleek black pantsuit covered in sequins; Lenz, a gold bow minidress; and Bush rocked a pinstripe suit.
As cohosts of "Drama Queens," a weekly "One Tree Hill" rewatch podcast, the actors have spent plenty of time together over the years, but this appearance marks the first time the three have posed on the same red carpet since 2005. In fact, Bush and Burton recently hung out in New York City, where they wore matching white power suits.

Pat Benatar has pointedly dropped one of her biggest songs, “Hit Me With Your Best Shot,” from her tour setlist out of respect for the victims of mass shootings.
In an interview with USA Today, Benatar noted that she and her band have what’s referred to as the “holy 14” — “songs that if we don’t play them, you’ll give us [a hard time].” Of course, 1980’s power pop smash “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” is typically part of that “holy 14,” but not on her current North American tour.
