How do you know when a mockumentary is Canadian? Well, it might open with a disclaimer like this: “The following ‘documentary’ is fictional. We apologize to any person appearing in the film who believed the documentary was real. Your agreement to appear in the film is greatly appreciated.” That’s from the opening of Fubar, Michael Dowse’s faux-chronicle of a pair of Calgary headbangers as they navigate their way through adulthood, mortality and many, many Pilsners. The film was popular enough to spawn a sequel, this weekend’s Fubar II, so Derek, Detroit and Simon will assess both flicks as well as Dowse’s semi-verisimilitudinous take on Ibiza rave culture, It’s All Gone Pete Tong.

Lemmy, Anvil, Zz Top and Alice Cooper are set to rock in the festive cheer this Christmas with a new double album of heavy metal holiday tunes. Eagle Rock Entertainment bosses have collected the most bizarre versions of festive favorites like "Frosty the Snowman" and "God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman" for upcoming release "We Wish You a Metal Xmas And A Headbanging New Year: Special Edition".
The compilation features Girlschool's version of "Auld Lang Syne", "Run Rudolph Run" by Lemmy, Zz Top's Billy Gibbons and Dave Grohl, "Santa Claws (sic) Is Coming to Town" by Cooper, John 5, Billy Sheehan and Vinny Appice and a rocking rendition of "Silent Night" by Chuck Billy and Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian.
There's also a poignant version of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" featuring the late Ronnie James Dio and his former Heaven and Hell and Black Sabbath bandmate Tony Iommi.

The story of "Anvil! The Story of Anvil" began in a London rock club in the early '80s, where a teenage metal devotee named Sacha Gervasi first saw Canadian rockers Anvil. After the show, Gervasi went backstage and met the band, striking up a friendship with Anvil's lead singer and guitarist Steve "Lips" Kudlow and drummer Robb Reiner. Eventually, Lips and Robb invited the then-15-year-old to be a roadie on their North American tour the next summer. Asked what a documentary on his relationship with the band during that period might have looked like, Gervasi replies, "That would have been amazing. People would not have believed it. My 17th birthday party: Angus Young of AC/DC, Kelly Johnson from Girlschool, Lemmy from Motörhead. I was hanging out with these guys! I was this young precocious public school boy who was into heavy metal."
