NBC is sticking with Found and The Irrational.
The network has renewed both first-year dramas — one of just a handful of original scripted series to air on a broadcast network this fall — for second seasons. Both shows were developed off-cycle at NBC and thus had a full complement of episodes in the can before strikes by writers and actors led to dozens of productions shutting down in the summer and early fall.
The two series have also performed solidly for NBC: The Irrational, starring Jesse L. Martin, is averaging 6.34 million viewers per episode after seven days of linear viewing, while the Shanola Hampton-led Found clocks in at 5.18 million viewers (not including streaming for either show). They are also the top two broadcast series of the season so far among Black viewers, with Found ranking first.

NBC is making some early renewals.
The network has renewed both of its first-year drama series, Found and The Irrational for second seasons.
The fact that both shows had episodes filmed prior to the start of the broadcast season was a boon for NBC, allowing it to air new scripted series as many of its rivals pivoted to reality series and licensed programming as a result of the dual strikes.
The Irrational has aired seven episodes of its first season and has four more to go starting on Monday January 29 at 10pm. It is currently back in production on those episodes.
Found has currently aired nine episodes with two more to air before the end of the year. It will return on January 9 for its final two episodes of the season and has already finished production on those.

Exclusive: NBC has increased the order of new drama series The Irrational by one episode. Originally picked up for 10 episodes, the series starring Jesse L. Martin will now produce 11 episodes in its first season. Meanwhile, Season 2 of NBC’s comedy series Lopez v. Lopez will consist of 10 episodes, down from the previously ordered 13.
The adjustments come as NBC is fine-tuning its scheduling plans for midseason. The network will likely reveal its midseason premiere dates next week after CBS and ABC announced theirs over the last few days.
The Irrational had filmed 7 episodes when the strike suspended production. The drama is scheduled to resume production next week in Vancouver. It was initially supposed to shoot the three remaining episodes, now that number has gone up to four.

The major broadcast networks are trying very hard this year to do what they do best – create franchise drama series built around the adventures of larger-than-life characters.
Kathy Bates, Kaitlin Olson, Carrie Preston and Shanola Hampton are among the female actors hoping to click as distinctive protagonists with new series in the 2023-24 season. Bates will bring to life a next-generation “Matlock,” while Preston limns a new chapter for Elsbeth Tascioni, the attorney character she has played on and off on CBS’ “The Good Wife” and Paramount+’s “The Good Fight” since 2010.
This is good news for the hundreds of international television buyers heading to Los Angeles for next week’s LA Screenings market. Another welcome development is that the largest media congloms are now on a big push to reopen their doors to third-party buyers, after a few years of holding back the biggest shows for in-house streaming services.

Updated: The network upfronts are once again front-and-center for the television industry as major players gather in New York May 15-17 for the springtime ritual of presenting programming plans for the upcoming TV season.
Upfronts are always a hectic time, but this year it’s even more so because of the writers strike that began May 2. Writers and many actors are sitting out the upfront presentations in solidarity with the Writers Guild of America. The promise of WGA pickets surrounding all major events spurred Netflix to make a hasty decision to switch to a virtual presentation rather than an in-person event at the company’s Paris Theater.
As content chiefs outline their plans for the 2022-2023 television season, here is a running list of new drama and comedy series orders handed out by ABC, Disney, CBS, Warner Bros. Discovery, NBC, Fox, the CW and other major players in the upfront.

Exclusive: NBC is keeping drama pilot The Irrational in contention a little longer. The network and producing studio Universal Television have extended the options on the cast, headlined by Jesse L. Martin. As Deadline reported last month, the actor options on the show were up in late October. I hear they have now been extended through the end of December.
In a promising sign, NBC last month commissioned a mini-room to produce a couple of backup scripts to go with the well received pilot but the network clearly is not ready yet to make a series pickup decision on the project, the last of NBC’s 2022 pilots to learn its fate.

NBC has placed drama pilot orders for “The Brave” creator Dean Georgaris’ “Blank Slate” and an adaptation of the novel “Predictably Irrational.”
Written by Georgaris, “Blank Slate” follows Special Agent Alexander McCoy, a legend in law enforcement, the agent we all hope is out there, the agent we’d all like to be, per the project’s official logline. The only issue is … he doesn’t actually exist. He’s a ghost, a phantom. So what happens when a man claiming to be Alexander McCoy walks through the door with all of his skills and knowledge, but with an agenda nobody will see coming.
“Blank Slate,” which first received a put pilot commitment at NBC last October, is co-created by Georgaris and John Fox, who executive produce alongside John Davis.
The pilot hails from Georgaris, Inc., Davis Entertainment and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.

Netflix dropped the trailer for “The Umbrella Academy” Season 2 on Wednesday, proving that Five (Aidan Gallagher) was right — as per usual — and messing with time travel to save Vanya (Ellen Page) in 2019 was a bad, bad idea.
This bad idea has landed each of the Hargreeves kids in a different point in time in the 1960s in Dallas, Texas, and at first they aren’t even aware if their siblings survived. But once they do find each other, Five informs them that they must get back to the future to stop yet another apocalypse. Great.
The trailer is set to “Here Comes The End,” an original song from Gerard Way, the My Chemical Romance frontman who wrote the “Umbrella Academy” comic book series and is a co-executive producer on the Netflix drama.

CBS’ Bull has a new man in charge… which sets the stage for a possible Season 2.
TV veteran Glenn Gordon Caron is taking over as showrunner of the freshman legal drama, according to a report from our sister site Deadline — but only if the series, starring NCIS alum Michael Weatherly as a high-priced jury consultant, returns for a second season. Caron will join Bull for the remainder of Season 1 as a consultant, with current showrunner Mark Goffman transitioning to a development role at season’s end.

Not all shows are live-tweeted (tweeting along with a show as it airs live), a big fan passion needs to be involved. Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead are probably some of the most prominent but it spans network television, cable TV, and streaming projects. When the live-tweeting trend began (and before the mute feature was in use) I wound up unfollowing a lot of folks because I was annoyed at getting spoiled just by glancing at Twitter. If you don't watch live you're just out of luck if you wanted to use Twitter during those times of day. I've said many times Twitter and users might benefit from live-tweet chatrooms (just think of the advertising Twitter could do there) for the more popular shows, but muting has certainly cut down the chatter for those of us who don't want to (or can't) get involved while a show is on.

Sleepy Hollow‘s Season 2 finale left Ichabod minus his witchy wife and surly, sorcerer son… and musing a fenestella’s worth of unanswered questions.
“Coming out of Season 2, and with a lull in the evil, like Abbie, he was also asking questions about, ‘How do I fulfill my destiny as a Witness and still find a place in the modern world?” says showrunner Clifton Campbell (The Glades), who took the series’ reins after executive producer Mark Goffman left in May.
When the supernatural drama returns tonight (Fox, 9/8c), we’ll begin to learn what Crane and Abbie Mills, his partner in apocalypse avoidance,...

Question: How much Grace will we see on Good Wife now that Makenzie Vega isn’t a regular? —Joyce
Ausiello: Quite a bit, actually. “You’re going to see exactly as much of Grace as you would any other season,” insists exec producer Michelle King. “She will be as involved in Alicia’s life as any teenager of her age would be.” Fellow Ep Robert King adds that Grace may even be more of a fixture this season...

Before Abbie and Ichabod’s tribulations begin anew — when Sleepy Hollow returns Oct. 1 (9/8c) — let’s review a few of the Fox series’ very important guiding principles.
Don’t lose your head — in any sense of the phrase.
Don’t drink or eat anything in Purgatory, or you’re destined to stay there for eternity.
And most importantly: If a rakish Revolutionary War captain calls you “loo-tenant” instead of “lef-tenant,” run for the hills.

Watch out, heads might roll over this news. When it returns for its third season, Sleepy Hollow will be down an integral member of its apocalypse-fighting team: Frank Irving. Orlando Jones, who has been with the drama since it premiered in 2013 on Fox, will not be returning for season three, Variety reports. A fan-favorite on-and-off-screen, Jones was known for hilariously live-tweeting episodes of the show (as well as other shows, like Supernatural), but has yet to address his departure on social media. Fox had no comment on Jones' reported exit. However, Jones isn't the only one leaving Sleepy Hollow as showrunner Mark Goffman will not be returning for season three; set to...
