'Holler If Ya Hear Me' is set to close after just six weeks.
Turns out, people just aren’t into a Broadway version of Tupac.
The Tupac Shakur Broadway musical Holler If Ya Hear Me is closing after just six weeks, with the New York Times reporting that it’s one of the worst-selling musicals in recent years. Just how bad was it? The $8 million production failed to bring in more than $175,000 a week in gross revenues.

In an interview with Variety, producer Eric L. Gold previously said, "If we don't succeed, it's gonna be difficult to do another rap or hip hop show on Broadway." The show officially closes on Sunday.
Holler If Ya Hear Me was written by Todd Kreidler and directed by Tony Award winner Kenny Leon (A Raisin in the Sun). It was described as "a non-biographical story about friendship, family, revenge, change...

After six weeks on stage, Holler If Ya Hear Me, the Broadway musical inspired by rapper Tupac Shakur’s music, is closing on Sunday, July 20.
“My hope is that a production of this calibre, powerful in its story telling, filled with great performances and exciting contemporary dance and music will eventually receive the recognition it deserves. It saddens me that due to the financial burdens of Broadway, I was unable to sustain this production longer in order to give it time to bloom on Broadway,” producer Eric L. Gold said in a statement. “Tupac’s urgent socially important insights and...

Broadway's Tupac musical Holler If Ya Hear Me will shutter Sunday after only six weeks of performances, the New York Times reports. One of the worst-selling musicals in recent years, the show struggled to attract an audience, with producer Eric L. Gold saying in a statement Monday that he made a "rookie mistake" in underestimating how much money the show would need to keep running and blaming the closure on the "financial burdens of Broadway." Although, if you ask us, the lack of Tupac holograms in the show was probably a factor. People love those things.

Broadway's Holler If Ya Hear Me opened to mixed reviews last month, but lead producer Eric L. Gold won't let that affect the show's open-ended run at the Palace Theatre. He recently told Variety that he hopes to raise another 5 million to keep the new musical open until ticket sales improve. When asked how long the show will remain, Gold told Variety 'It's week to week right now. It can't tell you if it'll be two weeks or two months. It's an expensive game, and I'm the guy carrying the load financially. I made a rookie mistake by underestimating how much capital was necessary, but I'm tenacious.'...

Exclusive: One of the longest-running shows in Hollywood is coming to a close. Jim Carrey will no longer be managed by Eric Gold and Jimmy Miller, the former partners who together have represented him for 25 years. They go back with Carrey to the beginning, when he was the rubber-faced white guy on In Living Color, the Keenen Ivory Wayans sketch comedy show for Fox. Carrey, Gold and Miller have confirmed this, and they’ve said that the split is amicable and that they will continue working together on a number of projects they have percolating. “I would like to express my sincerest appreciation to my good pals Jimmy Miller and Eric Gold for many brilliant years of partnership,” Carrey said in a statement. “I look forward to us working together in other creative capacities and I’ll be eternally grateful to them for their dedication, their inventiveness and their friendship.

Exclusive: Eric Gold has been manager to the popular TV daytime talk show star Ellen DeGeneres since after her ABC sitcom was cancelled in 1998 and she was out of work. I’ve learned today they parted ways after the first of the year but kept the news quiet. But it leaked out through rival reps to me. There are two sides to every story like this, but I’m told Ellen tried to cap Gold – and he said no, so they no longer work together. (‘Capping’ is an agreement to put a maximum dollar or percentage number on a rep’s earnings from a client.) Over the last decade DeGeneres has earned a reported half a billion dollars from her hugely successful 10-year-old TelePictures syndicated daytime talk show Ellen, endorsements (Jc Penney reportedly paid her $20M for the two-year campaign), and other activities. “After her sitcom ended and Ellen was out of work,...

Exclusive: The fallout from the exit of Dan Aloni from CAA to Wme Entertainment continues. In a shocker, Jim Carrey has left CAA so that he could rejoin Aloni at Wme. Carrey was built into a superstar at UTA before leaving to join CAA when Aloni left that agency and became CAA agents. Said Carrey: “My work with Dan Aloni reaches back to Ace Ventura and through films like The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I have decided to continue that relationship by joining him at Wme. I want to express my sincere gratitude to everyone at CAA who worked very hard on my behalf.” Carrey continues to be managed by Jimmy Miller and Eric Gold. Since Aloni left CAA, he has brought over all his big clients including Chris Nolan, David Dobkin, Mike Myers, Jay Roach, David Goyer, Tom Shadyac, Michel Gondry, Raja Gosnell, Mandeville Films,...

Ellen DeGeneres is becoming a daytime-primetime double threat with two major deals.
She has joined "American Idol" as the fourth judge, filling the void left by the departure of Paula Abdul. Additionally, she's inked a new five-year deal with Warner Bros. to continue her successful daytime talk show.
On "Idol's" upcoming ninth season, DeGeneres will join Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi.
DeGeneres broke the "Idol" news during the Wednesday taping of her show to a standing ovation from the audience. "I'm not leaving here; don't worry about that," she told them. "I'm gonna have a day job and a night job."
"The Ellen DeGeneres Show," which returned for a seventh season this week, has been cleared through the 2010-11 season. DeGeneres' new pact will secure her services for three potential years beyond that.
In her remarks, DeGeneres also noted that the "Idol" talks had been held in...

It sounds like the kind of bedtime story Stewie Griffin would love.
"Family Guy" showrunner/executive producer David A. Goodman has been hired to adapt the Blatant Comics horror property "Last Blood" into a feature film screenplay. Benderspink is producing.
"Last Blood," created by Bobby Crosby and Chris Crosby, follows the human survivors of a zombie massacre who find themselves protected by a band of vampires who need their blood to survive.
Goodman, repped by UTA and Benderspink, has an overall TV deal with 20th Century Fox. The Emmy-nominated writer-producer also has scripted an in-development remake of the 1978 comedy "Who Is Killing the Great Chefs of Europe?" for producer Eric Gold at Warner Bros.
Benderspink has several other comic properties in development, including "The Ghouly Boys" at Mandate Pictures and "Y: The Last Man" and "Power and Glory" at New Line.
