Neither a remake nor a direct continuation of the 2003 game of the same name, Black Mirror is a point and click horror/thriller that takes place in the late 19th Century and features a story of supernatural and the occult, as seen through the eyes of one David Gordon, youngest member and heir of the Gordon family. Made by King Art Games (also responsible for Battle World Kronos, Book of Unwritten Tales 1 and 2 and The Dwarves) Black Mirror has a lot of potential, but does it live up to expectations?
In a word, no. But that’s mainly because of a whole raft of technical issues that hamper the gameplay and prevent the player from enjoying what could otherwise have been a fairly enjoyable storyline. Thq Nordic have released a new gameplay trailer for their series reboot Black Mirror, the Gothic horror adventure due for release on 28th November 2017. Developed by the Bremen studio King Art Games, known for The Book of Unwritten Tales, The Dwarves and The Raven, Black Mirror will be available on PC/Mac/Linux, PS4 and Xbox One.
The first part of the creepy point-and-click series was released in 2004 as The Black Mirror, which produced two more spin-offs, Black Mirror II (2009) and Black Mirror III (2011). But don’t worry, even players unfamiliar with the previous games in the series can also enjoy Black Mirror, because this reboot of the franchise tells a totally independent and new story. The major difference between the new and old Black Mirror, apart from the modern graphics of course, will be a new gameplay element: interaction with vision-like apparitions.

It seems Twitter is Passionate for Fox's The Passion!Sunday night's two-hour live show was a hit for many around the country and in the Twittersphere. The show stars Jencarlos Canela as Jesus, country star Trisha Yearwood as Mary, Chris Daughtry as Judas and Prince Royce as Peter. The Passion's story was shot throughout New Orleans and host Tyler Perry led hundreds in songs and prayers in the city's downtown. Although only a few hundred people were able to witness the show in New Orleans, millions online felt the power. Watching people worship on live TV in New Orleans right now is really cool.

Ten chairman David Gordon has called for urgent reform to free-to-air media regulation to level the playing field with international competitors.
Speaking to shareholders at the company's annual general meeting today, Gordon said the current rules put Australian free-to-air networks at a competitive disadvantage with the global online giants..
"We are now fighting for advertising revenue in this market," he said.
"We appreciate that the government is consulting on the best way to enact reform but the Australian media industry needs the rules changed urgently and as a priority in early 2016.
He said that each day that passed was another day that free-to-air networks were hamstrung from innovating and competing more effectively in a very dynamic market..
"All we are looking for is a level playing field with international competitors.
"The free-to-air television industry in Australia is subject to regulation that has been in need of change for some time.

For some time, director David Gordon Green was developing a remake of Dario Argento's classic Suspiria. Three years ago, a remake of Dario Argento's Suspiria seemed to be ready to go ahead. So what happened to it? Its former director explains.
Visually and aurally sumptuous, Dario Argento's Suspiria was one of the most striking horror movies of its age. The soundtrack was cacophonous, the cinematography drenched in colour and often beautiful - even when Argento was spattering the screen with claret.
In 2008, director David Gordon Green risked the ire of horror fans everywhere when he revealed to MTV that he planned to remake Argento's nightmare classic. It could have been a starry affair, too, with Natalie Portman on board as producer and star. That incarnation of the movie appeared to fall apart, though, and Portman ultimately went on to make Black Swan with Darren Aronofsky - a film about a ballet dancer with more than a touch of Argento's delirious brand of storytelling running through it.

There is no denying the legacy of Al Pacino. From the Godfather films to Dog Day Afternoon to Serpico, the man.s filmography features some of the best performances featured in the 20th century. And while the latter half of Pacino.s career hasn.t been as strong as the former, Manglehorn, which just made its domestic debut at SXSW 2015, shows that the star still has the immense talent and gravitas it takes to carry a drama-heavy character study. Directed by David Gordon-Green and based on a script by Paul Logan (written specifically for Al Pacino), the new film follows an aging locksmith named A.J. Manglehorn, who lives a lonely existence pining for the only woman who he has ever loved and let get away. It.s an obsession that has burned his relationship with his son (Chris Messina), leaves him romantically blind to the flirtatious rapport he...

A dramatic psychological thriller set in a corrupt modern city and a sunny, coming-of-age comedy set in the 80s. Introducing the two new Amazon Original Series headed into production: Red Oaks, from producer Steven Soderbergh (Traffic), and Hand of God, written by Ben Watkins (Burn Notice) and directed by Marc Forster (World War Z).
Hand of God stars Golden Globe winner Ron Perlman (Sons of Anarchy) as Judge Pernell Harris, a hard-living, law-bending married man with a high-end call girl on the side, who suffers a mental breakdown and goes on a vigilante quest to find the rapist who tore his family apart. With no real evidence to go on, Pernell begins to rely on “visions” and “messages” he believes are being sent by God through his ventilator-bound son.
What Hand of God viewers have been saying:
“From the opening credits to the final scene, I was completely hooked and entertained.

Both Manglehorn and Birdman will receive their world premieres at the Venice Film Festival, as will Fatih Akin...

Amazon announced today that its third season of pilots will premiere August 28, before its second season of shows has debuted. Last year, the streaming service posted three comedies and two dramas and picked up everything except one of the comedies. This year brings us another five shows, three dramas and two comedies: The Cosmopolitans, from Whit Stilman, stars Chloë Sevigny and Adam Brody as part of a group of American expats living in Paris; Hand of God, directed by Mark Forster, stars Ron Perlman as a philandering judge who becomes a vigilante; and Hysteria, written by Shaun Cassidy, stars Mena Suvari as a neurologist who returns to her hometown to investigate a "psycho-physiological illness" that's plaguing the local dance team. On the comedy side, Really, created by, directed by, and starring Jay Chandrasekhar, is about four married couples in the Chicago suburbs; and Red Oaks, directed by David Gordon...

Last week, Captain America flew into competition-free skies and collected a cool $95 million across its first three days in theaters. The Marvel super-sequel won’t be so lucky in week two, as it goes up against three vastly different genres (a sports pic, a horror film, and an animated romp), but The Winter Soldier will still dominate the weekend.
Here’s how things might play out:
1. Captain America: The Winter Soldier — $45 million
The first Captain America dropped a steep 60 percent in its second weekend in theaters in 2011, but this is a post-Avengers world and the game has changed for our non-Iron Man Marvel fellows.

Sundance just ended, and we are already preparing for the next big film festival, South By Southwest. Not too long ago, the festival announced a few of the films premiering this year, but now they’ve announced the main slate. The midnight selections and some inevitable late-breaking additions are still to be announced, but this should be more than enough to get you excited. Along with many World Premieres, and Sundance favorites like Richard Linklater’s Boyhood and Gareth Evans’ The Raid 2, the line up also includes an anniversary screening of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and an extended Q&A screening of The Grand Budapest Hotel with Wes Anderson. SXSW 2014 runs March 7 through 15 in Austin, Texas. Check out the line up after the jump.

After announcing earlier this month that Jon Favreau’s Chef and the Veronica Mars movie will be making their world debuts at SXSW this year, the festival has revealed its full line-up, including further very promising world premieres, alongside appearances from some of the year’s most high-profile films.
The Midnight programme will be announced early next month, along with the Shorts line-up, and the complete Conference slate a little later as well.
Led by Seth Rogen and Zac Efron, Nicholas Stoller’s anticipated R-rated comedy, Neighbors, will be making its world debut at the festival, notably marked out as a ‘work-in-progress’ ahead of its theatrical release in May.
David Gordon Green’s acclaimed Joe will make its Us premiere, having bowed at Venice and then Toronto last year. Early reviews have Nicolas Cage giving one of the finest performances of his career, with Tye Sheridan (Mud) excellent alongside him.

Not sure if there is a Short Term 12 equivalent in this year’s Narrative Feature Comp, but on paper SXSW programmers are serving up a mean (and the usual lean group of 8 out of a whopping 1,324 film entries) for the upcoming competitiuon of eight which includes notable entries (that we’ve been tracking for a good time now) such as Zachary Wigon’s The Heart Machine, John Magary’s The Mend, Leah Meyerhoff’s I Believe in Unicorns and Lawrence Michael Levine’s Wild Canaries. Undoubtedly one of the most anticipated docs of the year, on the non-fiction side we find Margaret Brown’s The Great Invisible. Below you’ll find a breakdown of the other sections (notable world preems in We’ll Never Have Paris and Faults (see Mary Elizabeth Winstead above), some Sundance items with Texan connections and other nuggets.

Over three years ago, it was revealed that Old School and The Hangover director Todd Phillips was going to produce and direct a biopic about late comedian John Belushi with a script from Steve Conrad (The Pursuit of Happyness, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty), but we haven't heard anything since then. Now the project has life again, but Conrad will step up to make this his sophomore directing effort following The Promotion in 2008. In addition, Conrad is already looking for an actor to bring the large than life comedian to life, having met Emile Hirsch (Speed Racer, Into the Wild) and "Workaholics" star Adam Devine. THR also reports Joaquin Phoenix might also be in the mix, but there isn't a frontrunner out of the group just yet. Hirsch and Phoenix are interesting choices since they haven't taken on much comedy in their career. Hirsch has early work like The...

David Gordon Green aims for the middle ground between arthouse and fratpack with this unfinished-feeling film about road painters
David Gordon Green has one of the strangest careers of any director in modern Hollywood. Once hailed as a serious indie-arthouse film-maker in the vein of Terrence Malick, he switched to broad comedy and stoner comedy, claiming a fratpack alliance with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. Could there be any middle ground in his utterly different styles? Well, yes, sort of: his new film is a down-at-heel road movie about a couple of gloomy guys employed to paint yellow lines down the middle of a new asphalt road in a Texan national park. Paul Rudd plays Alvin, notionally the boss, and Emile Hirsch is Lance, whose sister Alvin happens to be dating – which is the focus of excruciating tension between the two men. It is a remake of an Icelandic movie...

Pineapple Express and Eastbound & Down director David Gordon Green chats to us about his latest indie comedy drama, Prince Avalanche...
"David can’t come to the phone right now, his house is flooded." That’s my first introduction to David Gordon Green. A pretty good reason for postponing a 10 minute phone interview, you have to admit. I can't really hold a candle to Mother Nature.
So we hook up a day later. Luckily, that biblical rainstorm in Texas has subsided, and for a man who I imagine must have bigger things on his mind, he’s incredibly accommodating.
He’s also something of a challenge. How can ten minutes hold all the questions I have for a man who’s gone from American indie (George Washington, All The Real Girls) to stoner comedy (Pineapple Express) over to TV (Eastbound & Down) back to studio comedy...

The mercurial director describes his latest film, Prince Avalanche, as an art movie invaded by a pair of multiplex goofballs – it's a tribute to the wide-ranging films of his adolescence
Prince Avalanche is a poignant comedy featuring tender performances from Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch as mutually antagonistic road-painters working the fire-scorched highways of late 1980s Texas. But as delicious as the film is, cinemagoers with long memories may regard it with justifiable caution. It's the latest movie from the writer-director David Gordon Green, whose work is best approached as the cinematic equivalent of a perpetually spinning coin. If a Green film falls shiny side up, it will transpire to be a lyrical arthouse elegy such as his debut, George Washington, which led to the director being anointed the new Terrence Malick, or All the Real Girls, a faltering love story from that bygone age before its star, Zooey Deschanel,...

One way to describe the tone of Prince Avalanche, the new film by director David Gordon Green, is that it feels like a mash-up of Terrence Malick and Judd Apatow. There is the meandering, minimalist plot and reverence to nature that are staples of Malick’s work, but there’s also a central bro-mance between characters played by Emile Hirsch and Apatow staple Paul Rudd. However, to invoke Malick and Apatow is really just another way of saying that Avalanche is a meeting between the old and new David Gordon Greens. It may be Green’s most autobiographical film yet, but not in the usual ways. Through its mix of styles and an ingenious central metaphor, it serves as a meditation on the young director’s career, particularly the odd choices he has made from 2009 to 2012. It’s been a wild, frustrating ride for those of us who fell in love with Green’s early work. George...

Editor’s note: Rob’s review of Prince Avalanche originally ran during this year’s Sundance Film Festival, but we’re re-posting it now as the film opens in limited theatrical release this weekend. There are two David Gordon Greens. But this is news to no one, so I won’t bother breaking down the differences between the Green who directed the bleak, dramatic and emotionally oppressive Snow Angels and the one who made The Sitter, but let’s all just acknowledge the massive rift in quality, character and narrative and move forward from there. His first move away from serious dramas, Pineapple Express, was surprisingly funny and exciting, and Your Highness was a highly inconsistent mix of chuckles and misfires, but by the time The Sitter hit theaters in 2011, even his most ardent and highest supporters were silently slinking away. Hopefully they booked a return trip, though, as Green’s latest film, Prince Avalanche...

Nicolas Cage has been cast in yet another movie! This latest movie is an action-thriller called I Am Wrath. Director William Friedkin (To Live And Die In La, The French Connection) is looking to direct the film after he finishes making Killer Joe.
Here's a description of the story:
Following the murder of his wife, Stanley (Cage) finds that the police are unable to catch the perpetrators. He uncovers a thick plot of police corruption and realizes that he will have to find justice on his own. As he awakens to the level of degradation of the people sworn to serve and protect, we get a little Rage in the Cage as he becomes a vigilante out to destroy those who abuse their power.
This seems like the kind of film Cage would take on, but not one I think I would enjoy seeing him in. It's kind of amazing...

There have been plenty of obstinate and hopelessly self-involved male characters at the center of popular TV programs, but it's safe to say there has never been one quite like Kenny Powers, the struggling baseball player played by Danny McBride on HBO's "Eastbound & Down." Often a delirious exercise in raunchy jokes about the male libido, "Eastbound" is remarkably hard to categorize. Although technically a half-hour comedy, it can easily shift gears mid-episode and turn into a sad, introspective drama before reemerging with a renewed wacky energy. To truly understand the roots of "Eastbound," you have to turn to its creators' other work. The show -- which concludes its third and supposedly final season on Sunday night -- is the product of an ongoing collaboration between a close-knit group of former college buddies from the North Carolina School of the Arts, including Ben Best, McBride and Jody Hill (another Ncsa alumnus,...
