The Prowler (aka "The Graduation" & "Rosemary's Killer") (1981) D: Joseph Zito Vicky Dawson, Christopher Goutman, Lawrence Tierney, Farley Granger The year 1981 featured a glut of slasher films in the wake of Friday the 13th's success. Many of them, like The Dorm That Dripped Blood, fall way below the entertainment Mendoza line. Before "As the World Turns" concludes its run on September 17, the stars would like to have one final celebration. Terri Colombino, Mick Hazen, Austin Peck, Eileen Fulton and others joined executive producer Christopher Goutman at The Paley Center for Media on Wednesday, August 18 night for a farewell party.
After more than 5 decades on television, "As the World Turns" which catapulted the career of Julianne Moore, is coming to an end. CBS announced the cancellation based on the declining rating. The producers also failed to secure a new home for the soap drama.
However, new beginnings would mark the end of the daytime series with the weddings, reconciliations and reunions. "We're trying to bring a 54-year-old show to a satisfactory and emotional wrap-up and to call it difficult would be the understatement of the century," Goutman told TV Guide. He later confirmed, "Barbara and Henry will finally make it to the altar.

Chicago – When did all slasher pics from the early ’80s become “cult classics”? You will find very few people as well-versed in the sub-genre as this writer who will gladly contrast and compare “Friday the 13th” sequels or discuss the merits of “April Fool’s Day,” “Basket Case,” and “My Bloody Valentine.” And yet not every film from the era deserves a cult following merely because it has grisly deaths, some T&A, and a twist ending. For example, take “The Prowler,” now out on Blu-ray from the great Blue Underground.

Savini’s...

Wagner, 91, passed away on Saturday (May 1), a rep for "As the World Turns" says. Wagner played Nancy Hughes on the CBS soap from its beginning in 1956 -- in fact, she had the first line in the show's first episode -- and holds the Guinness world record for the longest time in a single role on television, 54 years.
"All of us at 'As The World Turns' are deeply saddened by Helen's passing," executive producer Christopher Goutman says.
"She is loved by generations of fans and while we will miss her greatly, Helen will always remain the heart and soul of 'As The World Turns.'"
A native of Lubbock, Texas, Wagner graduated from Monmouth College in Illinois. She appeared in a number of Broadway shows early in her career, including "Sunny River,...

In what looks like could be the final season of As the World Turns, there's a treat is in store for fans of the venerable CBS soap opera.
Atwt has announced that actress Julianne Moore will return to play one half of her Daytime Emmy Award-winning role, Frannie Hughes. Moore played half sisters Frannie and Sabrina from 1985-1988 and won the Emmy the year she left.
Moore won't be in Oakdale for long though. She'll essentially do a walk-on to congratulate her parents as they celebrate their anniversary. The episode was taped on March 3rd.
If Executive Producer Christopher Goutman has his way, Moore's appearance will be just the first of many celebrated returns by big name stars that got their start on the soap. Famous alumni include Parker Posey, Marisa Tomei, and Meg Ryan.

Kathryn Bigelow has nabbed the Directors Guild of America award for her work on "The Hurt Locker."
The feature film award and other directorial achievement awards were announced during the 62nd Annual DGA Awards Dinner on Saturday, Jan. 30 in Los Angeles, hosted by Carl Reiner.
In the past, the DGA's feature film award winner has been a decent predictor of who will win the best director Oscar. Since 1948, the DGA and Academy have only differed six times in that category.
Bigelow beat out fellow directors James Cameron ("Avatar"), Lee Daniels ( "Precious: Based on the novel 'Push' by Sapphire"), Jason Reitman ("Up in the Air") and Quentin Tarantino ("Inglourious Basterds").
The other awards in directorial achievement follow:
Documentary
Louie Psihoyos, "The Cove"
Dramatic Series Night
Lesli Linka Glatter, "Mad Men" episode "Guy Walks Into an Advertising Agency" (AMC)
Comedy Series
Jason Winer, "Modern Family" "Pilot" episode (ABC)

In an historic win, Kathryn Bigelow and her tense Iraq War drama "The Hurt Locker" from Summit Entertainment copped the DGA Award for best-directed feature film Saturday.
The win drew cheers from a packed ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza, where throughout the night it was clear many were pulling for Bigelow to deliver a dramatic victory for female filmmakers. The DGA feature film win was a first-ever by a woman.
"This is the most incredible moment of my life," Bigelow said.
Bigelow overcame competition including Fox-distributed "Avatar," directed by her ex-husband James Cameron; Lee Daniels and "Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire" from Lionsgate; Jason Reitman and "Up in the Air" from Paramount; and Quentin Tarantino and "Inglourious Basterds" from the Weinstein Co.

The Director's Guild Awards were held last night, and they're pretty much useless as awards go, but they do seem to be the last of the major awards before the Oscar nominations are announced on Tuesday. The "major shocker" here, apparently, is that Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker) beat out her ex-husband James Cameron for best director, although it's only a "major shocker" if the Golden Globes were the only awards this season you're familiar with. In fact, the bigger shock would've been if Cameron had won, since of the 9 major awards for director so far this awards season, Bigelow has won seven now, to Cameron's one (Golden Globes) and Clint Eastwood's one (The National Board). So, please, La Times, "shocking" is the last fucking word you could use to describe Bigelow's victory, which you should know since you're the goddamn "Awards Insider." I have no idea why this bothers me,...

The DGA, which unveiled the small-screen nominations in eight categories last Friday, will announce the winners Jan. 30 at its 62nd annual awards ceremonies at the Century Plaza Hotel. The nominations included a trio of season finales in Mad Men, Curb and ABC’s Lost. In the comedy category, two shows — the pilot for ABC’s Modern Family and Glee — also received nominations.

"Mad Men" crew prove themselves that they work with the best. The AMC drama has just received three nominations at 2010 Directors Guild Awards. Three episodic directors, Jennifer Getzinger, Lesli Linka Glatter and Matthew Weiner, will compete against each other in Dramatic Series category.
The domination by "Mad Men" is almost being toppled by Fox's new series, "Glee", which nabs two under the category of Comedy Series. Similarly, HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm" also has two candidates under Comedy, Jeff Schaffer and Larry Charles, who are both known as executive producers as well.
"Television directors play a crucial role in eliciting performance, advancing the story and establishing the look and feel in all genres of television," said DGA President Taylor Hackford. "The DGA Awards highlight the most outstanding examples of excellence in television each year, and our 41 nominees in eight categories have distinguished themselves with creative, compelling projects that entertained and informed a diverse worldwide audience.

Want to know what else Luke had to say? Click on past the spoiler break.
This post contains massive spoilers about the Luke/Noah/Mason storyline. Only proceed if you want to know what to expect. We also ask that you do not put storyline spoilers in the headlines for your comments.
In what may be the most frank and honest interview a soap actor has ever given upon leaving a show, Forbes March reveals that he's already taped his last scarf-wrapped scene in Oakdale. The soap and sci-fi vet set down with TV Guide and dished on his latest project, and his history in the business.
While showing an obvious frustration to the way his character was used, March tells a story of changing writers, confusion, and a lack of passion for the product on set.
Before you get ahead of yourselves: No, he doesn't get strangled by his scarf in a bicycling accident.
