In the late 1930s he filmed a number of documentaries and travel films for Shell, and he also covered the Spanish Civil War. At the outbreak of the Second World War he joined the Air Raid Protection Unit in Croydon, UK.
He was posted to the Middle East in 1941 as part of the Army Film Unit, and filmed German troops and tank battles on the front line at Alamein.
Between 1960 and his retirement in 1980 he made industrial films, first for the Bowater Corporation and then for the North Sea oil industry.
