While delving into the lore of Jack Reacher, it seemed strange and kind of funny to notice that most well-known everyman heroes in the modern action-crime genre of movies share names that start with ‘J.’ We don’t know for sure whether it is completely arbitrary or whether it implies some intertextual commentary, but one aspect can certainly be pointed out: aside from the initial alphabet of the name, the majority of the protagonists share similar, quite basic characteristic traits, i.e., they’re invariably a mentally unstable stoic loner, a do-gooder with an infallible moral compass and a penchant for fashionable appearance. The character on point, Jack Reacher, the burly happy-go-lucky protagonist of James Grant’s crime novel series, strays from this generic portrayal by being an out-of-time, vagabond wanderer—a knight-errant of sorts, roaming through the drudgeries of Midwestern America and doling out justice as he deems necessary.

Exclusive: UK management agency Ymu is set to make up to 9% of staff redundant following a company review. At the same time, key lender Permira Credit will become its majority shareholder as part of the restructure, we can reveal.
Staff have been informed of the plans internally in the past hour. We hear headcount will be reduced by around 8-9% — up to 32 of Ymu’s 350 employees — and the redundancy process will begin in September. This comes after an independent review of the business by AlixPartners was undertaken to assess routes to a firmer financial footing following a testing post-pandemic period.
Specialist credit investor Permira Credit, which has been a major lender to Ymu, is planning to make what’s thought to be a sizeable investment in the company, and the agency’s leadership team will also equity partners as part of the agreement. Ymu’s clients include British presenting duo Ant and Dec,...

Award-winning author Paul McAuley’s acclaimed science fiction novel “Austral” is set for an epic series adaptation from Circle of Confusion Television Studios and ITV Studios’ Big Talk Productions.
“Austral” is an expansive drama set in Antarctica during the year 2098, decades after the melting glaciers have given way to a new frontier of resource-rich land, and a generation of settlers from all around the dying world have converged there. But for Austral Ferrado, one of a number of “huskies,” or people who have been gene-edited to better withstand the still-unforgiving climate of the far south, this new Antarctica is no paradise. Trapped in a society that has imprisoned her and treated her kind more as animals than humans, Austral will stop at nothing to gain her freedom.
Elise McCredie — Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts screenplay award winner for Cate Blanchett-produced series “Stateless” — will adapt the novel, while Erik Skjoldbjaerg (“Occupied”) will direct.

Ymu Group, the management firm borne out of private equity firm Trilantic’s acquisition of the James Grant Group, has shuffled its management pack, creating a U.K. CEO position, and naming a new entertainment MD, and head of drama.
Ymu upped Mary Bekhait to a newly created U.K. CEO role last week that spans sport, music, drama, entertainment, and business management. On Thursday, Ymu said Holly Bott will fill the MD, entertainment, role vacated by Bekhait. Bott will lead the teams working with leading TV presenters, broadcasters, experts, social influencers, and authors.
Another change sees Paul Randle confirmed as the new boss at Troika, the Ymu drama and comedy division. He fills a newly created MD role and joins the business from NBCUniversal International Studios where he was senior legal and commercial officer.
Troika became part of James Grant before the Trilantic deal and subsequent rebranding. Jgg had also already absorbed L.
