The secret weapon of Ezra Edelman’s excellent new O.J. Simpson documentary, O.J.: Made in America, is time: a full seven-and-a-half hours, which played together in an Oscar-qualifying theatrical run before a five-part premiere on Espn last week. The major benefit of this luxurious runtime is that Edelman has the chance to make the case, compellingly and in detail, that Simpson’s acquittal on charges of double homicide may have had less to do with specific evidence than with Simpson’s reputation as a public figure and, equally important, with the greater history of Los Angeles. Indeed, Edelman dedicates no less than three hours to framing Simpson’s life before the trial against the wider history of the city, which K. Austin Collins describes at The Ringer:The history of Los Angeles violence and the stories of O.J.’s relationship with Nicole twine, tightly, around O.J.’s image. Our...

Stepping out for some gourmet food and good company, Lily Collins showed up at a local Los Angeles eatery with Ashley Hamilton on Wednesday night (June 25).
The “Mirror Mirror” starlet and the “Iron Man 3” hunk looked to be getting along quite nicely and even shared a laugh as they exited the establishment.
Despite their age difference (Lily is 25, Ashley is 39) nothing about the nearly-three-hour dinner on the patio seemed awkward in the least.
Ms. Collins and Mr. Hamilton are currently filming an Untitled Warren Beatty Project as Marla and Rudolf, respectively.

The memorial, which includes wreckage of a downed U.S. B-52, was used as a location where contestants hunted for clues. The Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion organizations had criticized CBS over the show’s use of the memorial. Two Americans were killed when the bomber went down. The segment also included a choir singing a tribute to the Vietnam Communist Party. “Parts of last Sunday’s episode, filmed in Vietnam, were insensitive to a group that is very important to us — our nation’s veterans,” said the CBS statement, read before the start of tonight’s episode. “We want to apologize to veterans, particularly those who served in Vietnam, as well as to their families and any viewers who were offended by the broadcast.” There was no immediate response from the Vfw, whose National Commander Jack Hamilton had written to CBS President Les Moonves charging that “the B-52 scene,...

Yesterday, we reported on the Cleveland Galleria mall's plan to build a massive urban greenhouse where retail shops once stood. The real story, it turns out, is what the two people behind the Gardens Under Glass project have planned for tomorrow. An urban wasteland is being transformed into a green paradise.
The idea came about as a way to put some of the mall's empty space to good use, the Galleria's marketing and events director Vicky Poole tells FastCompany.com. At its peak, the Galleria had approximately 200 shops. Then the economy tanked. Stores shuttered. A regional bank took over a quarter of the building, the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association took over another chunk of space, and much of the rest of the mall was left abandoned.
Poole's first venture into making some extra cash for the mall came 5 years ago when she transformed the food court into an event space for weddings.
