R. Kelly silenced Aaliyah and her family through a non-disclosure agreement, following his marriage and subsequent annulment to the then 15-year-old singer.
The new allegations were made in the final installment of Lifetime’s “Surviving R. Kelly,” which aired on Jan. 2 and Jan. 3. The docuseries centered around R. Kelly’s 2022 federal trial where the NDA was brought up in the courtroom as evidence. The late Aaliyah was Jane Doe #1 in the trial.
“Surviving R. Kelly” utilizes Aaliyah’s story to spotlight her as a victim of R. Kelly, after years of the media and music industry scandalizing her marriage to the now-convicted singer in the 90’s.
Aaliyah’s debut album in 1994 was titled “Age Ain’t Nothing but a Number” and was recorded when she was 14-years-old. R. Kelly — who was Aaliyah’s mentor and was first introduced to her by her uncle, music executive and manager Barry Hankerson — was...

Exclusive: Gladys Knight, the Empress of Soul who recorded hits such as “Midnight Train to Georgia” and “I Heard It Through The Grapevine,” is gearing up for a scripted mini-series about her life.
Knight has teamed up with Cineflix Productions to develop the series and she will exec produce through her Empress of Soul Productions banner.
It’s suggested that the project could run similar to The Crown, taking on different periods of Knight’s life.
If the project progresses, Knight would become the latest soul legend to have a series set around her; Cynthia Erivo starred as Aretha Franklin in the third iteration of Nat Geo’s Genius anthology last year.
Cineflix Productions is coming off the success of feature doc Desperate Souls, Dark City and the Legend of Midnight Cowboy, from Nancy Buirski, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival.

Chicago, Il — The defense teams in the R. Kelly federal trial at Dirksen U.S. Courthouse rested on Friday following three days of testimony from the disgraced singer’s former business manager and co-defendant.
On Derrel McDavid’s third day on the stand on Friday, he faced cross examination from the government as the trial rounded out its fourth week. The Cpa-turned-business-manager McDavid has insisted he wholly believed the disgraced singer’s claims that he never engaged in sexual acts with minors while they worked together from the early Nineties until 2014 throughout his testimony.

Music icon Aaliyah released countless hits during her career and, for years, many of them weren't available to stream - until last August. For the first time since the early 2000s - with the exception of Aaliyah's debut album "Age Ain't Nothing but a Number" - all of the singer's music was released on streaming platforms, starting with her sophomore offering, "One in a Million," with her other works eventually arriving weeks later.
The gesture was announced just days before the 20th anniversary of her death on Aug. 25, 2001. Aaliyah's superstar success was, unfortunately, cut short when she and others died in a plane crash in the Bahamas a day after she shot her "Rock the Boat" music video. She was 22 years old.

Aaliyah's posthumous music rollout continues with a new collaboration with The Weeknd titled "Poison." The new single from the late singer and the After Hours artist arrived on Dec. 17, but it was almost immediately hit with backlash from fans who are dragging the song for its production quality. "Why does Aaliyah sound like she left The Weeknd a voicemail and he decided to record it himself ??? Fix it now !" one Twitter user wrote.
A handful of artists have tried their hand at sampling Aaliyah after her death in 2001, but some of the collaborations have come off tone-deaf considering the fact that the late singer's input is absent from all of these decisions. Fans are also calling out Blackground Records founder Barry Hankerson - Aaliyah's uncle and former manager, who controls the rights to her recordings - for rushing the release of the single.

For the first time in nearly a decade, a new posthumous Aaliyah track has arrived, with Blackground Records 2.0/Empire releasing “Poison,” featuring the Weeknd.
The tender R&b ballad features Aaliyah and the Weeknd’s vocals drifting over atmospheric production, with synths that waver and percussion that lands with a sharp hit before dissolving slowly into the soundscape. “Now, it’s too late for both of us,” Aaliyah sings in her falsetto, “No regrets of what we’ve lost and what we’ve shared/Maybe tomorrow we’ll love again...

It’s been a whirlwind few months for KueenD, the 30-year-old Dallas rapper behind “Shake That a$$,” a slinking, clapping single designed to torch late-night dancefloors. Funnyman Katt Williams has blasted cops for quizzing him in a shopping centre car park last week, branding the incident "a witch hunt".
Initial reports suggested Williams and members of his entourage were involved in an incident with another "crew" outside a Walmart store in Newnan, Georgia, during which a shotgun was pulled.
Two people were arrested while Williams was questioned at the scene, and investigators have since revealed the drama occurred after an argument over a woman.
Williams has now spoken out about the incident, insisting cops damaged thousands of dollars worth of equipment in his trailer at the car park.
He tells U.S. show Action News 2, "This guy's saying he's her boyfriend and he's brought his family with him. Now one of them has a holster and a pocket full of bullets and a pistol. So I tell them, 'Let's step outside.'
"Once they get me outside and there's six of them and one of me. Then all of a sudden, they calling (sic) the sheriff to tell the sheriff I got guns and I'm the problem."
And the star, who was last month arrested and accused of breaking into music mogul Barry Hankerson's Georgia home, is adamant he is being "persecuted" by police.
He adds, "This is a witch hunt, it's getting to the point where I feel like I'm being persecuted because this don't (sic) make no sense. You can't act like I'm a troublemaker, I been (sic) here for two months, I ain't been to a club yet."
Williams posted $40,000 (£25,000) bail in relation to the burglary allegations and has denied reports he stole jewellery and collectible coins from his friend's rural mansion.

34-year-old Katt Williams was arrested in suburban Atlanta, Georgia on Sunday, November 8 after allegedly breaking into a house located in Newnan, about 38 miles southwest of Atlanta and stealing $3,555 worth of jewelry and collectible coins. He was said bringing a crowbar when he entered the building. His bail was set at more than $41,000.

Comedian Katt Williams was the victim of a burglary hoax after falling out with a fellow house guest at his producer pal Barry Hankerson's home, his lawyer has proclaimed.
The funnyman was arrested on charges of burglary and criminal trespassing in Georgia early on Monday, and he was booked into Coweta County Jail and was ordered to appear before a judge hours later.
But the star's lawyer, William Briggs, claims his client was in Georgia filming a movie and had "full permission" to stay at Hankerson's property, where he has been living since last month, reports TMZ.com.
According to Briggs, Williams was taken into custody after a dispute with one of Hankerson's employees turned nasty and they called the cops to report a false crime.
As WENN went to press, further details about Williams' bail hearing on Monday afternoon had yet to be revealed.
