Millennium #1
Writer: Joe Harris
Artist: Colin Lorimer
Colorist: Joana Lafuente
Publisher: Idw Publishing
Price: $4
My experience with the world of Chris Carter’s TV shows consists of a few scattered X-Files episodes (specifically ones written by William Gibson or starring Tony Todd) and a half hour of the Millennium pilot (also about fifteen minutes of Harsh Realm). I remember absolutely loving these things but not being able to watch more because up until I was about 16, I wasn’t allowed to watch much TV, and certainly not the scary stuff. By the time I was 16, any interest I might have had in TV was scoured away by my devoted passion to my Super Nes. As I’ve gotten older, my caution in sampling The X-Files and Millennium has been due to the size of the commitment; I know the series are intertwined and that The X-Files...

He’s not your typical gangster rap star, in fact T.I. is quite a bit more than meets the eye, as seen in his November 2014 feature for Elle magazine.
The “Change Your Life” hitmaker explains his definition of ‘mediocre ho’ in his track “No Mediocre”- “Sometimes it’s a fashion thing. Sometimes it’s the attitude thing. I think women are born on a pedestal, and the only thing that can remove them is a lack of respect for themselves.”
As for his lyrics about having relations along the shore, T.I. notes, “I’ve had sex on a beach. Not exactly in Bermuda. It was more of a metaphor…You gotta have your utensils together, you know what I’m saying? A towel, a blanket—come prepared for the elements. It’s the kind of thing you do once, say you’ve done it, and then say,...

I’ve turned over a new leaf. You see, I passed up an opportunity this week. I could’ve reviewed the much anticipated Grendel Vs The Shadow crossover and passed up on either Alice Cooper or the new Silent Hill comic, even though they actually fit better the horror movie format of Destroy The Brain. But I didn’t! So instead you get three reviews of three horror comics, and I’m going to try to stick more to horror comics from here on out, when I can.
Full disclosure; the Grendel Vs The Shadow comic is $6! Honestly, this pretty well scared me away from doing it even more. Sure, I probably could’ve just reviewed that and skipped Alice Cooper and Silent Hill, but that would’ve been even more of a betrayal of Destroy The Brain.
You can trust me to be honest about these things. Really, you can.

Week after week, the shelves of local comic book stores nationwide are packed to brim with shiny new comics. Sure you’re a smart cookie and probably have tonnes of grabs already but many books do go unnoticed and its my job to make sure you are getting your moneys worth. I could ramble on for a bit but I sincerely doubt you’re still reading this paragraph and have long since scrolled down to the good bits– So without further to do, enjoy and note this is preference, what’s exciting to me may not be exciting to you and hey friend, I’m Ok with that:

It seems almost inconceivable that it’s been twenty years since The X-Files first graced our screens, and that the final episode aired over a decade ago. Back then there wasn’t the rich banquet of science fiction shows on television and so Chris Carter’s creation wasn’t so much a breath of fresh air as a bolt from the blue as we were introduced to Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.
2008’s The X-Files: I Want To Believe movie was a welcome return to Mulder and Scully’s world, but there wasn’t enough of the old mythology that made the show such compelling viewing in its heyday to satisfy the true X-Philes among us. It’s a pleasant surprise, therefore, to find that Idw Publishing’s new X-Files Season Ten comic has taken all of the elements of the TV show and created a five issue arc that really hits the spot.

Though the majority of filmmakers never get the chance to expand upon the short films they make, it’s not all that uncommon for a feature film to be spawned from the kernel of an idea presented in a short. There’s really no better way to generate interest for a movie idea than to bring that idea to life in a short film; it's a much more attention-grabbing way of presenting a concept than sending out a script and hoping someone reads it. There are a handful of horror films over the years that started small before they got to the chance to grow bigger, and today we take a look a ten of those movies. Where available (which is thankfully nine out of ten cases), the original shorts have been included so that you can witness the small beginnings of these well-known horror flicks! (Cbr) Oni Press supernatural thriller "Ghost Projekt" is now in development as a potential drama series at NBC, according to Deadline. The show looks to follow the same premise as Joe Harris and Steve Rolston's original five-issue miniseries, which depicted American weapons inspector Will Haley and Russian detective Anya Romanova teaming for an investigation with supernatural implications. "Troll Hunter" writer and director André Øvredal is set to direct and co-write the pilot; Oni publisher and co-founder Joe Nozemack and editor-in-chief James Lucas Jones will serve as producers. Deadline has reported that "Ghost Projekt," a limited series published by Oni Press in 2010, has just been snatched up by NBC for development. The news comes just a few months after NBC passed on a pilot produced for Oni Press' runaway hit comic "The Sixth Gun"
The 5-issue series was written by Joe Harris with art by Steve Rolston and Dean Trippe. This makes the second Oni Press-published, Rolston-illustrated series to get Hollywood attention following Fox's interest in "Queen and Country."
"Ghost Projekt" features the unlikely pairing of an American weapons inspector and a Russian Federal Security Service agent teamed up to stop a dangerous group from unleashing powerful ghostly forces found in a decrepit Soviet weapons lab.
Series writer Joe Harris was understandably excited about the announcement, especially with it coming as he preps a second volume of the series.

Deadline reports Oni Press' Ghost Projekt is now being developed as a series over at NBC. The property, created by Joe Harris originally landed at SyFy in 2011. Now, John Glenn and Troll Hunter's André Øvredal are penning an adaptation with Øvredal expected to direct the pilot.
The plot crunch goes like this: Russia is often remembered from the shadow cast during the Cold War-era when every stranger was a spy, but now that the Cold War is long over, some things left behind from that era may not stay lost. An abandoned Soviet research facility somewhere in Siberia has been home to a strange and dangerous weapon that is now in the hands of thieves claiming it for their own.

NBC has begun developing the drama series "Ghost Projekt" based on Joe Harris' graphic novel series. Andre Ovredal and John Glenn are penning the scripts, with the former set to direct the pilot.
The story centers on an American Un weapons inspector and a Russian Fsb agent who are forced to team up to chase a group of thieves. The crooks have stolen dangerous supernatural material from an abandoned Soviet weapons lab.
Meanwhile, HBO has decided to pass on its Cold War spy drama pilot "The Missionary" which Malcolm Gladwell, Stephen Levinson and Mark Wahlberg produced.
Charles Randolph penned and Baltasar Kormakur helmed the pilot about an American missionary (Benjamin Walker) trying to help a young woman escape East Berlin in the late 1960s.

Idw and series creator Chris Carter have followed in the trend of continuing cancelled shows in comic book form a la Dark Horse’s Buffy and DC’s Smallville. But it...

And just like that, it was Sunday, the final day of the con.
I suspect I wasn’t the only one there, who, by the end, almost felt as if they were going through the motions, that feeling of Con fatigue in full effect. My feet hurt, the spectrum of colors blur, comic companies meld, and the idea of sitting down at panels regain its appeal.
Even the atmosphere felt a tad muted, the costumes a bit less ubiquitous and clever, but the throng of fans still thundered along the show floor, squeezing through doors and escalators to get to panels on time or to see their favorite comic book artist.
This afternoon, I spent more time at comic book panels, seeing just one celebrity to finish off the Con.

Over the weekend at Emerald City Comicon, Idw Publishing and Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products announced plans for X-Files season 10… in comic book form.
Taking a cue from what Dark Horse Comics did with Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel by bringing Joss Whedon onboard, The X-Files: Season 10 will be produced by Chris Carter, the series creator. The X-Files: Season 10 will be written by Joe Harris (Great Pacific) with art by Michael Walsh and colorist Jordie Bellaire.
Chris Ryall, Idw’s Chief Creative Officer/Editor-in-Chief on the project:
“It was already an incredibly exciting prospect to tell stories set after the second The X-Files movie, especially after Joe Harris worked up such a great plan in that regard…But my excitement level went off the charts after a meeting with Chris Carter, where he agreed to come aboard and executive produce our Season 10. Rapper-turned-actor T.I., Clifford Joseph Harris, revealed back in March that he was being courted for a role in an existing Marvel franchise's newest installment. And while promoting his latest album, via Rap-Up TV, the Grammy-winning artist not only confirmed that Iron Man 3 was the film in question, but also that he turned it down. Check the video interview with the Atl star below. “I was being considered for this one film. Now that it's over with, I can say it. Iron Man 3. I was being considered for Iron Man 3 and it wasn't to be Iron Man, it was to be another character in the film but our schedules did not align and they had to do their little movie anyway. I told them go on ahead, I didn't want to get in their way. [laughs] But yeah man, I mean, I think my dream movie is an action-comedy.

Our first glance at Oz himself, James Franco...
Sam Raimi's highly-anticipated Oz The Great and Powerful may not be out until March 8, 2013, but that won't stop Disney from launching promos early and often. It's evidenced today with the first officially released poster for the film that will see James Franco as the titular Oz character before he became so great and powerful, as Oscar Diggs. The photo, previously shared by Gtbp's Joe Harris, above being the first glimpse we saw from him in costume.

[This week’s "Retro Active" pick is inspired by the history-rewriting presidential actioner Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.]
Political satire is nothing new to the horror genre, and on more than a few occasions—for example, William Lustig and Larry Cohen's Uncle Sam, or Joe Dante's Masters of Horror episode "Homecoming"—it's managed to find a suitable equilibrium with nasty carnage. Such a balance, alas, is nowhere to be found in The Tripper, the feature directorial debut of actor David Arquette, about a bunch of twentysomething friends who find themselves coping with all manner of clichéd slasher-madness circumstances, none more deadly than being pursued by an axe-wielding maniac in a Ronald Reagan mask. If you’re immediately wondering whether the Gipper—who's stalking victims at a drugged-out hippie-dippie Free Love music festival at Redwoods National Forest—eventually finds a way to carve "Just Say No" into his victims’ bodies, you're already one step ahead of this leaden effort. You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.
Or you start a crime spree so you can be the hero. Such is the premise of tonight's episode of Svu, "Street Revenge," a dark exploration of vigilante justice. While not as unsatisfying as last week's installment, this episode was not a complete success. But it did offer some stimulating drama between Amaro and his wife.
The moody atmosphere of Svu seemed like an odd place for costumed vigilantes; it seemed a little too lighthearted for such a serious criminal drama. The masked crusaders did react rather violently to suspected rapists, but it just came across like a ridiculous concept. One of them was even named Fantastica. NCIS took on Batman-wannabes earlier this year in "Secrets," but that show has a more relaxed and jokey tone than Svu.
I won't say (again!) that the plot was predictable.

We hold in our hands the covers for DC Comics this March. As a child of four can plainly see, these comics have been hermetically sealed in a Cgc 9.8 slab, and they’ve been kept in a #2 mayonnaise jar under a giant pile of Christmas tinsel since noon today.
What do we have worth noting? The first fill-in artist on Justice League, although Gene Ha is certainly no slouch in that department. We also have new writers on Firestorm and Green Arrow, new backups in Justice League and Action Comics, and the DC 52 hits lucky number 7.

Ratings are up for SyFy, and the channel is developing three new shows: “Ghost Projekt,” “Seeing Things” and an as-yet-untitled Robert H. Wolfe drama.
Of the three, “Ghost Projekt” would probably interest Splash Page readers the most because it’s based on a comic book series. Released in 2010, the Oni Press-published series stars Will Haley, an American weapons inspector, and Anya Romanova, a Kgb agent, as they track down a very dangerous stolen weapon. They’re often described as being an “unlikely” team, but of course those teams are the most fun in fiction. Coming to us from Joe Harris and Steve Rolston, the comic has released five issues.
The Hollywood Reporter gave us the heads up on this development, but there’s not a whole lot of news on it yet. Brett Matthews, a writer for “Supernatural,” has been hired both as a script writer and an executive producer for “Ghost Projekt.

One of the most interesting comics of the past few years was a short-run series from Oni Press, Ghost Projekt.
The story was set in Russia (which you knew because of the "k" in "project"), where female "operativnik" Anya Romanova crosses paths with a male U.S. weapons inspector while investigating an abandoned Soviet research facility in Siberia. The facility had been the site of research and experiments to find new weapons of mass destruction — one of scores of such abandoned labs. After 9/11, the U.S. increased efforts to help the Russian government make sure that anything left in the facilities was inventoried and secured.
One of America's top inspectors, Will Haley, is sent to Siberia to investigate a burglary of the lab. Anya is there as well, investigating a string of murders linked to the weapons research that went on at the site. Eventually, Anya and Will learn that...
