In the opening scene of Episode 8, Season 4 of Netflix’s “The Crown,” a young Princess Elizabeth, played by Claire Foy, addresses the British Commonwealth from Capetown, South Africa, on the occasion of her 21st birthday.
What follows is a montage of people listening to her radio broadcast speech in different member countries, from India to Australia, to Jamaica and a number of African nations. These scenes were all shot in Spain, encapsulating — in less than three minutes — the great diversity of the country’s locations.
Several scenes in Seasons 3, 4 and the upcoming Season 5 of “The Crown” have all been shot in Spain while the sixth and final one, which starts shooting in late August, promises to be the show’s “largest investment in Spain in terms of time,” says independent producer Martin Harrison, one of the key producers behind the award-winning series for Sony backed London-based shingle Left Bank Pictures.

Ten reasons why Spain is a favorite for big-budget productions:
Up to 70 Tax Incentives In 2020, a tax break hike catapulted Spain into the top echelon of destinations for big international shoots. Its mainland offers a competitive 30 tax rebate for the first €1 million (1 million) of spend and 25 for further expenditure, capped at 10.1 million. In the Canary Islands, the rebates reach 50 for the first 1.1 million and 45 thereafter, with a 19.4 million ceiling. The Basque Country’s Bizkaia province looks set to offer tax breaks up to 70 beginning in 2023. One thing are these figures, another the general international industry take that the tax breaks and rebates are reliable, in contrast to someplace around the world.
A Compact Variety of Climates and Landscapes Spain boasts mountains, deserts, forests, rivers and lakes, 5,000 miles of coastline, nature parks, tropical areas, flatlands and plateaus. “The combination of its extensive and diverse location backdrops, great climate, multiple airport hubs...

The Producers Guild of America Awards awarded Chloé Zhao’s “Nomadland” with their top prize, one of the key indicators for the Academy Awards, particularly the best picture category. Edging out its closest competitors including Emerald Fennell’s “Promising Young Woman,” Lee Isaac Chung’s “Minari” and Aaron Sorkin’s “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” this might just end any questions about whether or not the moving drama is running away with the Oscars’ big prize.
All the acceptance speeches were pre-recorded with “Nomadland” giving a more produced, glitzier presentation than what we’ve seen at other award shows.
It should be noted that last year’s “1917” from Sam Mendes lost the Oscar after wins from PGA and DGA to “Parasite,” which only had the coveted SAG cast ensemble prize under its belt. Coincidentally, “Nomadland” is not nominated at SAG in their top category, leaving an opening for...

“Nomadland” look home the top film prize at the 2021 Producers Guild Awards Wednesday, bringing it closer to a Best Picture win. The winner of the PGA Awards’ top prize has historically been a strong indicator of which film will will go on to win the Best Picture Oscar. Since 1989, the PGA winner has matched up with the top Oscar 21 out of 31 times. It happened in 2018 with “Green Book,” but not last year: “1917” won at the 2020 PGAs, but the Academy Award for Best Picture went to “Parasite.”

The last two Producers Guild of America Awards told us which movies — “Green Book” (2019) and “The Shape of Water” (2018) — would win the Oscar for Best Picture weeks before the Academy Awards. In fact, 21 of the previous PGA Awards winners have then gone on to claim Best Picture victories.
For the 31st annual ceremony slated for Saturday, January 18 at the Hollywood Palladium, we already know the top choice will be at the very least a major front-runner for this year’s Oscar. The PGA’s 10 nominated films are “Ford v Ferrari,” “The Irishman,” “Jojo Rabbit,” “Joker,” “Knives Out,” “Little Women,” “Marriage Story,” “1917,” “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” and “Parasite.” All but “Knives Out” contend at the Oscars for Best Picture.

Mere moments ago, the Producers Guild of America announced the nominations for their annual PGA Awards. This is one of the most reliable predictors for the Academy Award category of Best Picture, so pay attention! The ten movies cited in their top category (known as the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures) are almost always Oscar finalists in Picture. This seems likely to hold true again this year. Read on for more… You can see all of the Producers Guild citations below, but the ten films honored in the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures category are 1917, Ford v Ferrari, The Irishman, Jojo Rabbit, Joker, Knives Out, Little Women, Marriage Story, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Parasite. The Best Picture nominees that the Academy cites will likely come from this bunch, though not all will make it, obviously.

The Producers Guild of America has revealed its nominees in the motion picture and television categories for its 31st Annual Producers Guild Awards; nominees include recent Golden Globe winners “1917,” “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood,” “Missing Link,” “Succession,” “Fleabag” and “Chernobyl.”
The PGA, which has about 8,200 members, has matched the Oscar for best picture in 21 of its 30 years, including “The Green Book” last year and “The Shape of Water” in 2018.
The PGA uses a preferential balloting system that’s similar to that employed by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The PGA and AMPAS both expanded their voting for the top film to 10 nominees in 2009. About three-quarters of the PGA’s Zanuck nominees wind up as Oscar best picture nominees.
On the TV side, among all of the drama and comedy nominees, only “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” (last year’s comedy winner) is a repeat from last year.

The Producers Guild of America hands out its awards on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018. That is the night before the Screen Actors Guild does the same. Unlike, the latter, which will air on TNT and TBS, the PGA ceremony is not televised. However, it is an equally important stop on the road to the Oscars.
The PGA Awards has an enviable track record at presaging the eventual Best Picture winner at the Academy Awards. The guild and the academy have agreed on 19 of the most recent 28 Best Picture champs. Last year, all nine Oscar nominees for Best Picture numbered among the 10 PGA contenders; only “Deadpool” was snubbed by the academy. The PGA prize went to “La La Land” while the Oscar was (eventually) won by “Moonlight.”

Unknown falls into a very strange category of films, not least because it is decidedly difficult to recommend. By the time the credits roll, I found it to be better-than-average as far as overall entertainment value, and I'm a Liam Neeson fan, but up until somewhere slightly beyond the half-way point, I had a desperate urge to fast-forward, or leave.
It's a vehicle of curious frustration, and I'm inclined to suspect that it is because the story is better suited to an episode of The Twilight Zone (or similar) than feature film. As fans of quickfire story houses (like Twilight Zone) well know, what puts them in a distinct class of storytelling is that they are all endgame. We lead into the clever trick of the story, and then we get a nice "Aha," moment, and that's pretty much the genre.

The Directors Guild of America presented the 63rd Annual DGA Awards on Saturday night, January 29, at the Grand Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland. The King’s Speech won a key award from Hollywood directors, four days after the British royals drama picked up a leading 12 Oscar nominations.
The film’s director, Tom Hooper, was named winner of the union’s prize for outstanding achievement in feature film at a ceremony in Hollywood, beating competition that included another Oscar favorite, The Social Network director David Fincher. The Directors Guild of America contest also included Christopher Nolan for Inception, Darren Aronofsky for Black Swan and David O. Russell for The Fighter. The second of two movies on thing mentioned also received Oscar nominations, along with Joel and Ethan Coen for True Grit, who were unnoticed by the DGA.

The Directors Guild of America announced its award winners for achievement in 2010 last night, and the big winner was Tom Hooper, director of The King's Speech. That, in conjunction with the film's victory [1] at the Producers Guild awards, puts the movie as the odds-on favorite to win the Best Picture Oscar, and makes Mr. Hooper a likely win for Best Director as well. The DGA and Academy have gone different ways for Best Director only six times in the past six decades, and I'm not certain this year will make it seven. In Contention [2] points to the difference at the 2003 Oscars, where the relatively young Rob Marshall won the DGA award for Chicago over directors like Martin Scorsese and Roman Polanski. But the Academy went with Roman Polanski as Best Director for The Pianist, even as Chicago won Best Picture. So will a more experienced director like Darren Aronofsky, David O. Russell...

Directors Guild of America President Taylor Hackford today announced the five nominees for the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film for 2010.
“2011 marks the 75th anniversary of the DGA, making the celebration of this year’s five nominees especially meaningful,” said Hackford. “Their inspired films radiate the passion and unique vision of each of these filmmakers, who are about to become part of our Guild’s rich history. My sincerest congratulations to all five nominees.”
The DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film has traditionally been one of the industry’s most accurate barometers for who will win the Best Director Academy Award; only six times since the DGA Awards began in 1948 has the Feature Film winner not gone on to win the corresponding Academy Award.
The winner will be named at the 63rd Annual DGA Awards Dinner on Saturday, January 29, 2011, at the Grand Ballroom of Hollywood & Highland.
