‘The Whale’ director Darren Aronofsky is getting a lot of buzz for his latest film ‘The Whale’ and is now looking to create a musical based on Black Swan.
Aronofsky directed Natalie Portman in the 2010 psychological horror film based on a story by Andres Heinz. The film received multiple Oscar nominations and Portman won in 2011 in the Best Actress category.
“We’re trying to do the Black Swan musical,” the director told The A.V. Club.
“We’ll see what happens. But we’re working on it.”
The reporter suggested Aronofsky do a movie musical of the film, which the director said he “would love to” and had “talked to many people about it.”
“I’ve come close to a few ideas,” he added.

StudioCanal’s Red Production Company has secured the rights to Boy In The Striped Pyjamas author John Boyne’s latest novel The Echo Chamber, with Boyne set to adapt as a 10 x 30-minute series.
Red said the deal took place following a “highly competitive auction” for the book, which has already topped Irish bestseller lists after being published over the summer.
The Echo Chamber follows The Cleverley family, comprised of a TV interviewer dad, novelist mum and adult children, who live a privileged life but are just one Tweet away from disaster. A week may be a long time in politics, but five days is all it takes for the lives of the Cleverleys to be turned on their heads.
Boyne achieved global recognition for 2006 Holocaust YA novel The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas, which was turned into a Mark Herman film starring Asa Butterfield, Vera Farmiga and David Thewlis.

Studiocanal’s Red Production Company has secured the rights to Irish novelist John Boyne’s latest critically-acclaimed novel “The Echo Chamber,” after a competitive auction.
The novel will become a 10-part returnable series, which Boyne will adapt for screen. Boyne is the author of 2006 novel “The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas,” which has sold more than 11 million copies worldwide and has been adapted for cinema, theatre, ballet and opera.
“The Echo Chamber” follows five days in the gilded lives of the Cleverley family as their respective worlds come crashing down. The novel topped the bestseller charts in Ireland on publication earlier this year.
The deal was negotiated by Emily Hayward Whitlock and Robert Taylor at the Artists Partnership in association with Simon Trewin.

'Black Swan' movie with Natalie Portman. 'Black Swan' movie review: Darren Aronofsky's 'most mature' effort Darren Aronofsky has one of the most amazing talents for not only crafting impeccable works of fiction, but also for framing these works against the backdrop of worlds the average person will never be a part of. In Requiem for a Dream, he took a stylized and brutal eye to the dangerous world of drug addiction. In The Wrestler, he gave us a brilliant and tragic human story set in the world of professional wrestling. In Black Swan, he gives us the fascinating story of one person's psychological downward spiral within the world of professional ballet. Black Swan, arguably Aronofsky's best effort, was surely his most mature to date. 'Black Swan': Nina and her 'ballet mother' Mark Heyman, Andres Heinz, and John McLaughlin's screenplay tells the story of Nina Sayers (Natalie Portman...

Special Mention: Spirits Of The Dead (Histoires extraordinaires)
Written and directed by Federico Fellini (segment “Toby Dammit”), Louis Malle (segment “William Wilson”), Roger Vadim (segment “Metzengerstein”)
France, 1968
The first thing you should notice is the three directors: Federico Fellini, Louis Malle, and Roger Vadim. Secondly, take notice of the cast, which includes Brigitte Bardot, Jane Fonda, Peter Fonda, Alain Delon, Terence Stamp, Salvo Randone, James Robertson Justice, Françoise Prévost and Marlène Alexandre. Spirits Of The Dead is an adaptation of three Edgar Allan Poe stories, one of which demands to be seen.
The first segment of the film, Vadim’s “Metzgengerstein”, is unfortunately the least impressive, but is still great in its own right, and features a marvelous performance by Jane Fonda. Malle’s segment, which is the second of the three, turns Edgar Allan Poe’s 1839 story into an engrossing study in cruelty and sadism. This episode is an engaging enough entry,...

Throughout the month of October, Editor-in-Chief and resident Horror expert Ricky D, will be posting a list of his favorite Horror films of all time. The list will be posted in six parts. Click here to see every entry.
As with all lists, this is personal and nobody will agree with every choice – and if you do, that would be incredibly disturbing. It was almost impossible for me to rank them in order, but I tried and eventually gave up.

50: Thundercrack!
Directed by Curt McDowell
Written by George Kuchar
1975, USA
Thunderstruck! is by far the most obscure film you will find on this list. It is without a doubt one of the true landmarks of Underground cinema. With a screenplay by veteran underground film maker George Kuchar (story and characters by Mark Ellinger) and directed Curt McDowell (than student of Kuchar),
Thundercrack! is a work of a crazed genius.

Mark Heyman’s script for Xoxo has been described as “Fatal Attraction for the digital age,” and after months of negotiating, Lionsgate has purchased the rights to it, reports Variety. The film also has Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky, Kelly Mullen, and Michael London of Sideways to produce.
The story focuses on a young engaged man to begins to interact with an attractive woman on Facebook. But their the electronic relationship proves to be a deadly one as the woman begins to stalk her online lover.
Like Lionsgate’s own 2005 thriller “Hard Candy,” “Xoxo” explores misleading digital identities, as the film also makes use of streaming video and other social-media platforms. These online interactions will be made more cinematic by employing stylized visual sequences, though no director has been brought on board yet.

[1] It's been months since Black Swan co-writer Mark Heyman began shopping [2] his upscale thriller Xoxo, but the project has finally found a home at Lionsgate. After months of negotiation, the studio has just finalized a deal to acquire Heyman's spec script, described as "Fatal Attraction for the digital age." As previously reported, Darren Aronofsky and Michael London (Sideways) are set to produce, along with Kelly Mullen. More details after the jump. Xoxo centers around a young up-and-coming who indulges in online flirtation despite being engaged to be married. He meets an attractive woman on Facebook, but their digital relationship proves to have deadly real-world consequences when she begins stalking him. Xoxo will incorporate stylized visual sequences to show the characters interacting, as well as streaming video and other social media platforms. It's unclear at this point what those scenes will look like, exactly, but they're bound to be more interesting...

Chicago – Darren Aronofsky’s Oscar-winning “Black Swan” was one of the most ambitious films of 2010, a piece of psychological drama that, despite an incredibly stupid recent backlash of the kind that always comes eventually with a project this highly-acclaimed, will absolutely stand the test of time. It doesn’t just reward repeat viewing as much as anything from 2010, it practically demands it. You can’t fully appreciate any of the accomplishments if you see them only once.
And I mean Any of them. I’ve seen “Black Swan” multiple times, more than any film from 2010, and I’m flabbergasted at how well it holds up. There’s always something new to admire, like a symphony performance in which you hear a different instrument every time. Of course, Natalie Portman’s spectacular work stands out the first time, as it should. Portman gives a physically and emotionally draining turn that earned her a well-deserved Oscar.

People say you don’t go to film school just for the education, that the connections are sometimes even more important. For Mark Heyman, that was definitely the case. Sure, he’s proven himself a skilled producer, a great development executive, and now screenwriter, but had he not been forced to hang around class late one day, he’d never have met the reigning national champ of filmmaking Darren Aronofsky. Yes, I do believe that the really good people out there will succeed in this business with or without the right partnerships, but Heyman’s serendipitous beginnings with Aronofsky cannot be ignored when it comes to discussing his career. In less than 10 years, Heyman has gone from unpaid personal assistant to the director, to producer and writer of what should be considered not only the finest film of Aronofsky’s career, but best of this decade (despite this decade being really young,...

The 2011 Orange British Academy Film Awards were handed out today and to very little surprise The King's Speech led the way with seven BAFTA Awards as it was also the most nominated film among all nominees with 14 total nominations.
Among its achievements it took home Best Picture, Outstanding British Film, Best Actor for Colin Firth, Best Original screenplay for David Seidler and Best Score for Alexandre Desplat. Where the surprises came were in the supporting wins for both Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter showing The Fighter apparently doesn't pack as much of a punch across the pond as it does here.
Also, for those of you trying to predict the Oscars and are wondering which direction to go with Best Director, David Fincher took home the award for The Social Network, one of three wins on the night for the film. Aaron Sorkin also won for Adapted Screenplay and Film Editing.

As soon as we thought we could predict the outcome of the Oscars, here comes another surprise! This one's brought to you by the Writers Guild of America. Picked for Best Original Screenplay was Christopher Nolan's "Inception." The director, famously dissed for not getting a Best Director Oscar nomination, may just win the Best Original Screenplay come Oscar night. Oscar front-runner, "The King's Speech" was not nominated because it didn't quality under union rules which prompted Nolan to say during his WGA acceptance award that he looked forward to a time when he could accept the award "without qualification."
That could be the beginning of a great script Mr. Nolan, go write it :happy
For adapted screenplay, I'm happy to report that Aaron Sorkin's fantastic script won! Based on "The Accidental Billionaires" by Ben Mezrich, "The Social Network" was the only film last year that I predicted to win this very category.

More: One of our favorite “Charmed” actresses is coming to “Law & Order: Svu” this winter. Rose McGowan, so good in Quentin Tarantino‘s “Grindhouse,” is filming an episode of “Svu” this week called “Bombshell.” What we hear is that she’s going to play some kind of sex club worker who tries to de-stablize Det. Elliot Stabler–Chris Meloni. Can’t wait to see this. McGowan is one of Hollywood’s most under-utilized players. “Svu” meantime is on a roll. Last week’s episode with Colm Feore was great. Finally, winners we can all be happy about! The 2011 Writers Guild Awards were held last night at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles. The two key winners: Inception, written by Christopher Nolan, winner of Best Original Screenplay from the WGA; and The Social Network, written by Aaron Sorkin (seen above), winner of Best Adapted Screenplay (original nominees below). As for documentaries, Charles Ferguson's Inside Job took top prize. Last year, Up in the Air did not go on to win the Oscar even though it won a WGA, so it's hard to tell, but I would absolutely love to see Nolan take home an Oscar, too. The other nominees in Original Screenplay included: Mark Heyman, Andres Heinz & John McLaughlin for Black Swan, Scott Silver, Paul Tamasy & Eric Johnson for The Fighter, Lisa Cholodenko & Stuart Blumberg for The Kids Are All Right and Nicole Holofcener for ...

Writers Guild of America (WGA) have revealed the winners of the awards for best original, adapted, and documentary screenplays. As previously reported, "The King's Speech," "Winter's Bone," "Another Year" and "Toy Story 3" were not eligible for the award, despite being nominated for Oscars. The big winner was Christopher Nolan for his work on "Inception," beating out "Black Swan" and "The Fighter." "This is one of things I'm most proud of," he said, noting that his script for "Memento" wasn't eligible for the WGA Awards nine years ago. Aaron Sorkin also won for "The Social Network" screenplay. "I wrote a good script but David Fincher made a great movie," he said. The list of nominees and winners (in red): Original Screenplay * Inception (Christopher Nolan) * Black Swan (Mark Heyman, Andres Heinz, John McLaughlin) * The Fighter (Scott Silver, Paul Tamasy, Eric Johnson) * The Kids Are All Right (Lisa Cholodenko, Stuart Blumberg...

“Inception” has finally gotten some real love.
It’s been a bit puzzling as to why Christopher Nolan’s expertly structured and endlessly fascinating sci-fi tale hasn’t been getting more attention from industry award-givers. While it’s received kudos for its technical prowess, “Inception” has yet to be truly acknowledged for its significant achievements in directing, writing and acting.
Until now, as Nolan’s script was given the award for Best Original Screenplay by the Writers Guild of America at the WGA Awards. “Inception” emerged the winner against some extremely strong competition, including “The Kids Are All Right” and “The Fighter.”
Meanwhile, Aaron Sorkin’s script for “The Social Network” took home the award for Best Adapted Screenplay (no surprise there) and Charles Ferguson’s “Inside Job” won for Best Documentary Screenplay. Both films were winners at the recent Directors Guild Awards as well.

No big surprises here as the Writers Guild of America announced their winners tonight and Aaron Sorkin's script for The Social Network and Christopher Nolan's script for Inception took home top honors. Charles Ferguson's script for Inside Job was also awarded for Best Documentary Screenplay.
It's important to note that screenplays for Oscar nominated films such as The King's Speech, Winter's Bone, Toy Story 3 and Another Year were all ineligible for the WGA awards as the WGA restricts "nominations to films that are written for productions that are signatories to the guild's Minimum Basic Agreement, or the agreements of several affiliated international guilds... their purpose is to honor the best films produced by WGA members, or under WGA guidelines."
So, if you currently predict David Seidler's screenplay for The King's Speech is the likely Oscar winner over Nolan's Inception script then perhaps these awards don't mean as much to you.

Last year, noticing that studios throughout Hollywood were posting the screenplays for their “Oscar movies” online for free, I compiled the download links for every screenplay I could find and posted them to this site. The article was a hit, many of the screenplays were downloaded, and things went quiet…until a few months ago, when the page started getting a lot of traffic again, no doubt thanks to the start of this year’s Oscar season.
The problem was, a lot of those studio sites from last year have been taken down, so if, say, you try to click the link to download the Avatar script, you get an ugly Not Found error. I won’t make that same mistake again: this year, I’ve downloaded all the new screenplays and stored them here, so the links will always work.

In less than 24 hours we will no longer be discussing who will be nominated for an Oscar, but rather who will win. On Tuesday morning at 5:38:30 a.m. Pst (seriously, the Academy has nailed it down to the second) the 2011 Oscar nominations will be announced.
