Javier Hernandez has overcome a lot of obstacles to get to where he is today.
“I was always overweight,” Hernandez, 32, tells People. “Out of eight kids, I was the fat one with the huge appetite.” But life at home was hard. Raised by a single mother in the projects of Tempe, Arizona, Hernandez and his family didn’t have a lot of money. “My food options weren’t the best – we would have cheap fast foods, donation boxes of foods,” he says. “Playing outside wasn’t much of an option due to the high crime rate in our projects.” They even endured bouts of homelessness.

Arsene Wenger has been uncharacteristically open about his approach to transfers this winter. Perhaps because he’s currently sitting on top of the Premier League (with only one realistic competitor for the title in Man City), the Frenchman has openly admitted that Arsenal will be looking for “quality rather than quantity” with a “maximum of two” players in mind now that the window is open.
One of those two will presumably be Fc Basel midfielder Mohamed Elneny, who Sky Sports claimed was “on the verge” of signing for Arsenal yesterday, but the other won’t be former Man Utd striker Javier Hernandez if his current boss has anything to do with it.
Rudi Voller, now sporting director at Bayer Leverkusen has spoken out to Sky in Germany on Hernandez’s situation and the club’s need to do any business.

Tim Krul has told of how aggressive new £13 million Newcastle signing Aleksandar Mitrovic is behind closed doors at Newcastle United, but wouldn’t change him for the world.
The former Anderlecht man impressed during his full debut at Old Trafford against Manchester United on Saturday after a couple of less than convincing substitute appearances against Southampton. The Serb infamously received two yellow cards moments after coming on in both games with reckless tackles that had many questioning his character, but all those doubters were silenced as the forward ran his socks off and played a huge part in Newcastle’s 0-0 draw.
In fact, he could have scored with a wonderful header from all of 16 yards.
But Krul, who himself excelled with a wonderful save to deny Javier Hernandez, doesn’t want his new teammate to lose that mean streak and instead channel his energies at...

Newcastle United ended a run of seven successive away defeats by claiming a battling point at Old Trafford against Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United.
Aleksandar Mitrovic even had a couple of chances for the Magpies on his full debut, but in truth it was Newcastle’s defence that starred in Manchester to earn Steve McClaren a 0-0 draw on his return to his old stomping ground.
Florian Thauvin also made his Newcastle debut off the bench as Tim Krul and Fabricio Coloccini in particular kept the Red Devils at bay.
In terms of McClaren’s starting line-up at Old Trafford, Steven Taylor came in for the suspended Daryl Janmaat, with Chancel Mbemba shifting to right-back, while the injured Moussa Sissoko was also replaced by Ayoze Perez. Additionally, Aleksandar Mitrovic made his full Newcastle debut, coming in for Papiss Cisse up front.

Despite signing exciting Dutch forward Jeremain Lens earlier this week, Sunderland seem keen to further bolster their attacking options, having been linked with young Manchester United winger Adnan Januzaj.
Rumours of the 20 year old’s departure have emerged as a result of his slide down the United pecking order, with Sunderland the bookies’ favourite among a gaggle of suitors including Everton and Real Sociedad.
The young Belgian shone during David Moyes’ brief reign at Old Trafford, but seems to have fallen out of favour under Louis van Gaal. Despite being given the number 11 shirt last worn by Ryan Giggs, he was forced to oversee much of the 2014/15 season from the bench, rarely making an impression in the starting line-up.
Sunderland fans will be more familiar with Januzaj than most. The winger scored two goals at the Stadium of Light in 2013, turning Craig Gardner’s opener into nothing more than a footnote.

Manchester United’s hopes of signing Mats Hummels appear to be over after manager Louis van Gaal conceded the Borussia Dortmund defender is likely to be unavailable for the next two transfer windows, according to the Telegraph. United were liked with Hummels for much of the summer, but nothing materialised on deadline day this week.
And any hope van Gaal may have held of signing the centre-back in the January transfer window appears unlikely at best, while the Germany World Cup winner may not even be available next summer, either. United were frustrated in their attempts to sign Hummels over the last few months, and with the player under contract at Signal Iduna Park until July 2017, know it will not be easy for them to strike a deal in the near future.

Miguel Herrera has seemingly confirmed Javier Hernandez’s switch to Real Madrid on Twitter. The Mexico manager wrote a short message on the micro social networking site earlier this morning congratulating the Manchester United striker on his switch to the European champions, writing: “Going to Real Madrid is a great opportunity for [Chicharito], I wish him the utmost success.”
Hernandez has been linked with a move to Real for the last couple of days with rumours suggesting the Mexico international is set for a loan move to the Santiago Bernabeu, and now this speculation has seemingly been confirmed. United manager Louis van Gaal is looking to offload players before tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline and ‘Chicharito’ appears to have been deemed surplus to requirements.

Manchester United have reached an agreement with Ajax for the signing of defender Daley Blind. Although officially undisclosed at this point, Sky Sports understands that the fee is £14 million for the full-back.
The Dutch international, who played in the World Cup for Louis van Gaal’s Holland, will become the latest new Old Trafford recruit, pending the completion of a medical and personal terms.
Blind, 24, was withdrawn from Dutch champion’s Ajax’s squad for their match on Sunday at Gronigen as his United signing looked imminent.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly lining up a sensational double swoop for Manchester United pair Javier Hernandez and Marouane Fellaini.
New Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has been keen to strengthen his attacking options all summer, with a host of players having been linked to White Hart Lane since his arrival, and he is now looking to bring in the striker and midfielder from Old Trafford.
The former Southampton boss is known to be an admirer of Mexican international striker Hernandez, who has scored an impressive 59 goals in 152 appearances for United since joining the club after the World Cup in 2010.
He also thinks Belgian Fellaini can add some power to his midfield – both defensively and offensively – and will be particularly keen to sign him after numerous attempts to sign his former Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin have failed. He has made just sixteen Premier League starts for United since...

After promising so much of a revolution, and investing so much in a new system that would be the end to Man Utd’s much publicised problems of last season under David Moyes, Louis Van Gaal opened his United account with a loss.
The Red Devils were undone by injuries ahead of the game that led to surprising starts for Jesse Lingard, Javier Hernandez and Tyler Blackett, and during, as Lingard went off after 23 minutes, and shipped two goals to lose for the first time at home on an opening game since 1990.
Those goals – from Ki Sung Yueng and Gylfi Sigurdsson showed the problems Van Gaal faces with so few first choice defensive options, and though he was billed as the key to bringing in new signings, United simply have not addressed the problems.

With Javier Hernandez leaving the pitch at half time to be replaced by Portuguese winger Nani, Louis Van Gaal has done the unthinkable and abandoned his 3-5-2 formation that he spent pre-season building for a 4-4-1 system.
Phil Jones has moved to right back, Ashley Young is at left-back and Nani and Januzaj are playing wide.
And not long into the second half, the change paid off with Wayne Rooney hitting the net from close distance to cancel out Ki’s opener with an improvised acrobatic effort:

After putting in 12 crosses without any success in the first half, United put a cross in from Mata and Phil Jones flicked on for Rooney at the back post.
The game is beginning to get scrappy with Taylor and Shelvey yellow carded in the minutes leading up to the goal.

With the second half now underway, Man Utd are currently trailing against Swansea City thanks to a Ki Sung Yueng goal from outside the box – with a massive, and questionably legal assist from Wilfried Bony, who blocked Phil Jones from intercepting.
The tale of the half was very much that goal, as well as the performances of United’s young understudies Jesse Lingard and Tyler Blackett. Meanwhile, the third replacement – Javier Hernandez – has now gone off to be replaced by Nani as United look to hit back in the second half at Old Trafford.
Here are the key stats from the first 45..
7. 56%
Man Utd have had the lion’s share of possession, but crucially they haven’t taken advantage of their superior time on the ball to break down Swansea’s defence decisively.

When Louis Van Gaal released his first Premier League team-sheet and it featured not only Javier Hernandez – a reasonable guess for the chosen under-study for the unfit Robin Van Persie – but also rookie defender Tyler Blackett and Jesse Lingard at left wing-back.
It seems that the Dutchman is keen to show early on how committed he is to his system, and rather than altering the 3-5-2 system he favours, he has handed the Mancunian 20-year-old centre-half his first Premier League start, and deployed Lingard in a more reserved position than he is traditionally used to.
Van Gaal was expected to make compromises in his ideal starting line-up, and Blackett seemed the obvious choice if Jonny Evans failed to make the team, but Lingard’s choice seems more out of left-field:

Manchester United football club could be about to witness a busy period of comings and goings as the summer transfer window enters its final three weeks. United have been linked with a series of big-money signings but today talk turned to departures. According to reports, manager Louis van Gaal is prepared to sell up to five of his misfiring stars.
Right-back Rafael, winger Nani, central midfield pair Marouane Fellaini and Anderson along with striker Javier Hernandez are all in line for the chopping block if recent speculation is to be believed, with van Gaal informing the quintet to instruct their representatives to find them new clubs for the 2014-15 season before the transfer window slams shut.
It’s a ruthless action from the notoriously-hard-to-please Dutchman, who is looking to leave his own mark on the Red Devils after succeeding from the sacked David Moyes.

English football audiences may like to think that they have an insight into the players likely to feature at this summer’s World Cup, with 16% of all the players in the tournament playing in England. Only Italy, Switzerland, Costa Rica and Russia have no players currently playing in England, although the first three all have players with plenty of English league experience (Russia are unique at the World Cup in having all their players play in their home league).
Because we see them deliver brilliant game changing performances throughout a highly competitive season, we have a sense that Luis Suarez, Eden Hazard and Sergio Aguero will star in Brazil. But will they? Might the match winning moments equally come from someone else entirely?
As anybody who remembers the brief and wholly disappointing post-usa ’94 English league careers of Florin Raducioiu or Tomas Brolin can attest to,...

As many as six current United stars could represent England at this summer’s tournament with Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Danny Welbeck and Rooney named in Roy Hodgson’s provisional 23-man squad, with Michael Carrick and Tom Cleverley on standby.
Meanwhile, Shinji Kagawa, Juan Mata, Javier Hernandez, Robin van Persie and Luis Nani will each represent Japan, Spain, Mexico, Holland and Portugal, respectively, at the finals.

Mexican striker Javier Hernandez has been told by Mexico boss Miguel Herrera that he should leave Manchester United after the World Cup if he wants to keep being selected for his national side.
The diminutive striker has been limited mostly to substitute appearances at Old Trafford since his 2010 arrival, but this has not prevented “Chicharito” from starring for his country in that period and he has an extremely impressive international record of 35 goals in 58 games – but that could seemingly change unless he plays more first team minutes at club level.
Tottenham Hotspur have long been linked with signing the striker and would no doubt be interested, should Manchester United make him available. Spurs would, however, reportedly face competition from the likes of Premier League rivals Aston Villa and Italian giants Inter Milan.

United started the game brightly but fell behind when Sidwell stabbed in Lewis Holtby’s cross after 19 minutes as the bottom of the league club went in front.
The Red Devils may even have been two goals down at half time when Muamer Tankovic broke with another counter attack and played in Kieran Richardson, who blazed over.
United pressed for an equalizer and upped the tempo and at last...

Chelsea’s long-term problems with their strikers have been well-documented, and their search for a proven goalscorer looks set to continue into the summer. The Blues have recently given up on signing Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney as the England star is close to signing a new £300K a week deal at Old Trafford, according to The Mirror.
However, Jose Mourinho could end up calling David Moyes about another one of his players.
Javier Hernandez has made 141 appearances for Manchester United since signing for them in 2010 and has scored 58 goals, giving him a ratio of one goal every 2.4 games. When you factor in his 14 assists, it becomes clear that he is a better option up front than any of Chelsea’s current trio.
Fernando Torres has turned out 158 times for the Blues, scoring once every 3.4 games, while Demba Ba’s limited appearances have seen him produce a goal every 4.4 games.

Samuel Eto’o trebled his Premier League goal tally for Chelsea by hitting a hat-trick against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge that keeps the Blues hot on the heels of Arsenal.
David Moyes’s Red Devils slumped to their seventh league defeat of the campaign meanwhile, leaving their title defence all but over with 16 games to go. Javier Hernandez netted a consolation here, but United captain Nemanja Vidic saw red before the end. Rafael almost followed suit too.
Jose Mourinho made two changes to the Chelsea team that won at Hull. Ashley Cole and Fernando Torres made way as Branislav Ivanovic returned from injury in defence. Eto’o was preferred in attack and Cesar Azpilicueta switched flanks to left back.
Moyes meanwhile fielded an XI sporting three alterations from the league win over Swansea last time out. Darren Fletcher, Shinji Kagawa and Chris Smalling all dropped to the bench.

Samuel Eto’o became the first Chelsea player since 1954 to hit a hat-trick against Manchester United. A heavy defeat at Stamford Bridge despite Javier Hernandez’s consolation left David Moyes and the Red Devils 14 points off the pace, effectively ending their bid to defend the Premier League title.
Ashley Young drew a low early stop from Petr Cech as United made the better start. Despite that hosts Chelsea went ahead after a quarter of an hour through Eto’o. The veteran African saw his near post shot loop off Michael Carrick and over David De Gea in the opposite corner.
Goalmouth action scarcely followed in this tight, cagey contest. Danny Welbeck scuffed a close range effort straight at Petr Cech late on in the first half after. Cesar Azpilicueta did just enough to put the Red Devils frontman off.

Premier League champions Manchester United steadied the ship with a 2-0 win over Swansea at Old Trafford to end a run of three straight defeats in all competitions.
David Moyes’s first season in charge of the Red Devils so far has made a compelling case for the club needing to reshape its squad. A report in the Mail on Sunday suggests this process will begin in the January transfer window.
Brazilian midfield flop Anderson will be the first to go in a clearout as he nears a reported transfer to Italian Serie A side Fiorentina. Moyes may also send winger Nani back to his native Portugal and former club Sporting Lisbon on loan.
Wilfried Zaha – the last signing made at United by Moyes’s predecessor Sir Alex Ferguson – could leave Old Trafford temporarily too with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looking to take him to Cardiff City.

Sunderland have not beaten Manchester United since they last met in the League Cup over 13 years ago. Kevin Phillips’s extra time penalty took the Black Cats into quarter-finals in November 2000 with Red Devils goalscorer Dwight Yorke being sent off.
United have since won 16 of the 20 subsequent encounters that have all come in the Premier League and the other four were drawn. The Black Cats will have home advantage first in this two-legged tie with the winners to face either West Ham United or Manchester City at Wembley.
Gus Poyet has had defensive injuries worrying him, but despite Sunderland’s struggle in the league they remain in both domestic cup competitions. The basement club of the English top flight will be targeting an upset in this first leg similar to their shock win over City in November.

Swansea made history by winning at Old Trafford thanks to Wayne Routledge’s early chip and a late Wilfried Bony header. Manchester United fell at the first Fa Cup hurdle despite Javier Hernandez scoring as substitute Fabio was sent off.
Defeat for the Red Devils – their fifth at home in all competitions this term – increases the pressure on David Moyes. United are still in the Capital One Cup, but look short of strength to defend their Premier League title and make a big splash in the Champions League.
Wayne Rooney joined a lengthy injury list for the hosts as Moyes made six changes from the home loss to Tottenham Hotspur on New Year’s Day. Defenders Nemnaja Vidic and Patrice Evra were rested completely whilst Michael Carrick, David De Gea and Adnan Janzuaj dropped to the bench.

Wayne Routledge scored the opener and made the winner for Wilfried Bony as Swansea upset Manchester United in the Fa Cup to earn their first ever win at Old Trafford. Javier Hernandez gave the hosts parity, but they later saw Fabio sent off.
Swans winger Routledge stunned the Theatre of Dreams by chipping Anders Lindegaard and giving the visitors an early lead. He was set away between the United centre backs by Alejandro Pozuelo’s reverse pass on 12 minutes for his fourth of the season.
The visitors only enjoyed a brief lead, however. David Moyes’s men equalized after a quarter of an hour when Hernandez ended his goal drought by converting a whipped in Alex Buttner cross from close range.

Antonio Valencia then blazed over from another decent Red Devils move following good work by Danny Welbeck.

Tottenham Hotspur picked up a third win under Tim Sherwood and victory at Old Trafford for the second season running as Emmanuel Adebayor and Christian Eriksen goals sunk Manchester United.
A fourth home defeat of the campaign for David Moyes’s Red Devils leaves the Premier League champions with little hope of defending their crown. United are now 11 points behind current leaders Arsenal. Danny Welbeck’s strike in reply on New Year’s Day proved the smallest crumb of comfort.
Sherwood made three changes to the Spurs team that won at home to Stoke City last time out for this trip to the Theatre of Dreams. First choice fullbacks Kyle Walker and Danny Rose returned. Box-to-box midfielder Paulinho missed out, however, after damaging ankle ligaments. Etienne Capoue replaced him whilst Kyle Naughton and Zeki Fryers dropped out.
Moyes fielded an XI with four alterations from the narrow away win at Norwich.

Premier League champions Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have drawn their last two meetings. They start 2014 level on points and next to one another in the table both looking to close the gap on the top four.
David Moyes’s Red Devils have hit fine form in their festive fixtures by recording six successive victories after failing to win the first three matches in December. Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood meanwhile got the second win of his reign against Stoke on Sunday.
Spurs are also buoyed by the fact they won on their last visit to Old Trafford in September 2012. Clint Dempsey netted the winner then, but has re-joined former club Fulham on loan from Mls franchise Seattle Sounders.

Position: 6th

Top Scorer: Wayne Rooney (8)
Positives: 2nd Best Pl away record, Form of Wayne Rooney
Negatives: Worst start to a season since 1989, Conceding Late Goals
Two words that spring up when people think of Manchester United’s first half season without Ferguson in over a quarter of a century might just be: false starts
Evident around from day one, where United fans were excited and positive over the future direction of the team after the 4-1 victory over Swansea, they can’t seem to seize the momentum created by a decent league win and keep it going over a sizeable timespan. Before December only once, after winning 3-2 at home to Stoke and then following that with victories over Fulham and Arsenal have United managed to win back-to-back Premier League games which is testament to this notion of constant false starts to United’s Premier League season.

Ashley Young scored his first club goal since May 2012 as Manchester United survived stormy weather to win at Stoke City in the Capital One Cup quarter-finals. David Moyes’s Red Devils edged a match of few chances with captain Patrice Evra also on target.
Young fired wide into the side-netting for United as hosts Stoke survived an early scare. Anderson then worked Thomas Sorensen in the home goal with a low effort midway through the first half.
Referee Mark Clattenburg briefly brought the players off amid a hailstorm. The delay lasted about eight minutes. Just before half time both Red Devils centre backs almost combined for a corner when Chris Smalling nodded across to the unsuspecting Jonny Evans.

Premier League champions Manchester United could clearout as many as ten first-team players as David Moyes weighs up a major overhaul of the Old Trafford squad.
According to the Manchester Evening News, senior Red Devils names, fringe players and struggling performers could all face the axe as United’s title defence falters.
Moyes suffered consecutive home defeats in four days to former club Everton and then Newcastle United at the weekend. These losses have left the champions 13 points and eight places behind league leaders Arsenal.
Veteran defenders Rio Ferdinand, 35, and Patrice Evra, 32, are the first names linked with exiting Old Trafford in the local press. Ferdinand has to be carefully managed and can no longer play every game, so he could retire at the end of the season.
Men’s United writer Stuart Mathieson describes reported target Leighton Baines as “casting a shadow” over French left back Evra since Moyes took charge.

A single goal from Yohan Cabaye helped Newcastle United to their first win at Old Trafford since 1972 and pile yet more pressure on under fire manager David Moyes.
The Frenchman stunned the home crowd on the hour mark with a close ranged finish after disastrous defending from Patrice Evra as the Magpies claimed their first away win over the champions in over 40 years.
The big news ahead of kick-off was Robin van Persie being named in the starting XI after four games out with a groin injury.
But even the returning Dutchman couldn’t inspire a lackluster United who are now four games without a league win and could find themselves 15 points off leaders Arsenal by the end of the weekend.
The Magpies showed the same sort of industry exhibited by Everton on Wednesday and got at United, in what was a cagey opening half of very few clear-cut opportunities.

Wayne Rooney bagged a brace as Manchester United twice came from behind at White Hart Lane to hold Tottenham Hotspur. The hosts registered through Kyle Walker’s free kick and a stunner from Sandro.
This slow burning contest saw goalmouth action markedly absent early on. Aaron Lennon produced a tame effort off his weaker foot, so it trickled through to David De Gea for the hosts.
Sandro then had to be on hand to block Rooney’s effort after Vlad Chiriches cheaply ceded possession. Spurs went ahead on 18 minutes after surviving that Red Devils scare.
Jonny Evans fouled Paulinho on the edge of the box and up stepped Tottenham right back Walker, who fired a low free kick under the wall and past De Gea.
Spurs skipper Michael Dawson then saw a shot blocked by Rooney as he turned a right wing corner towards United’s goal.

Arsenal are lining up a sensational New Year bid for Manchester United’s Javier Hernandez, according to the Daily Mail.
The Gunners are weighing up a move for the Mexican striker, over concerns about Oliver Giroud’s workload.
Giroud is Arsenal’s only fit senior striker with Lukas Podolski still out injured, and manager Arsene Wenger is eager to bring in a new recruit to ease the Frenchman’s goalscoring burden.
Liverpool’s Luis Suarez remains a target, but, in news that will almost certainly heighten hostilities just two days before their clash in the Premier League, the Gunners are also eyeing United’s ‘Chicharito’.
Wenger will try to sign a new forward in January and considers the potential procurement of Hernandez’s services realistic, given how little game time he has been getting at Old Trafford recently.

Real Sociedad and 10-man Manchester United both take a point from a game neither really did enough to warrant winning.
Both sides exchanged half-chances in the first-half but not enough to break the deadlock. Manchester United’s Shinji Kagawa came close, but saw his shot deflected wide, while the hosts failed to create any clear-cut chances in the first 45 minutes.
In the second-half Javier Hernandez had a glorious opportunity to put the visitors ahead, but the Mexican hit his shot over the bar from inside the six-yard box.

Manchester United have Danny Welbeck and Darren Fletcher as the confirmed absentees. Marouane Fellaini is likely to start alongside Michael Carrick in midfield – replacing the equally unimpressive Tom Cleverley. Manager David Moyes must consider whether Javier Hernandez deserves a starting birth after his recent goal-scoring form.
Fulham are coming off the back a 4-3 defeat to Championship side Leicester City in the Capital One Cup. The side also lost to Southampton 2-0 prior to the cup game. Jol is under intense pressure as the London outfit are...

Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez (nicknamed Chicharito) boasts a great goalscoring record for the side – 52 goals in 124 games – but he’s a player who will never be first-choice for the title-holders in the future. Dubbed ‘super-sub’ by the masses, Hernandez has made nearly half of his United appearances from the bench to devastating effect, meaning he’ll have to be content with the moniker as a result.
His manager David Moyes has faced a number of questions from his critics already this season, but one of the biggest qualms many people have is why he doesn’t give the striker more time on the pitch given his above goal record.
The Mexican international is far down the striker pecking order, and is forced to make do with cameo appearances off the bench. This season, he’s made just one league start for United, while amassing less than...

Can Manchester United continue their mini-revival when they welcome Norwich in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup?
Team News
Manchester United manager David Moyes is likely to rest Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie as his side prepares to play host to Norwich in the League Cup, meaning Javier Hernandez will be handed a rare start.
Wilfried Zaha is also expected to feature alongside a host of other fringe players, and is set to make only his second competitive appearance for the Red Devils.
Norwich manager Chris Hughton is also set to ring the changes, with many alterations expected to be made to the side that drew 0-0 with Cardiff City at the weekend.
Ricky van Wolfswinkel has a toe injury so may not feature while Alex Tettey could also sit this tie out.

Manchester United striker Robin van Persie was embroiled in a heated tunnel bust-up with defender Ryan Shawcross during the clash against Stoke City at Old Trafford on Saturday, according to the Express.
The feuding duo reportedly clashed on the pitch and off it when Shawcross appeared to grab Van Persie by the neck at a corner.
The pair then continued the fracas at half time as Shawcross barged into the Dutchman as he was heading down the tunnel at the interval, and a verbal exchange ensued.
Referee Lee Mason stepped in and visited the Stoke dressing room to caution Shawcross, yet the exchanges continued at the final whistle and again outside the dressing rooms.
Stoke boss Mark Hughes said of the incidents:
“Apparently Van Persie flicked his leg and it was a little bit close to Ryan’s face – I think that’s what caused it. Then...

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas will strengthen his attack in January by ditching Emmanuel Adebayor and using the proceeds to fund a move for Javier Hernandez, according to the Independent.
Adebayor is currently third choice at White Hart Lane and has fallen even further down the pecking order thanks to the summer arrival of Roberto Soldado from Valencia.
But Villas-Boas wants to improve his strike force even further and will look to buy another forward in the winter window having set his sights on United’s out-of-favour Hernandez.
The Mexican has struggled for first team football this season having made only three appearances so far – two of them from the bench.
Like Adebayor, he too has fallen down the pecking order with United boss David Moyes preferring Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck up front.
“Chicharito”, as he is affectionately known by fans, admitted last week that he...

Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez has hinted that he may have to quit the club to seek more regular playing time, according to the Mirror.
Hernandez has started a mere two games out of 11 under new manager David Moyes and has yet to play a full 90 minutes of football for the champions this season.
The 25-year-old has been with United since 2010 but has always played the role of “impact substitute” with many of his appearances in the last three years coming from the bench.
And though the Mexican says he is happy to remain at Old Trafford, he conceded that he may have to move to another club in order to achieve his aim of starting games on a regular basis.
Hernandez, who was a target for Atletico Madrid over the summer, admits his lack of playing time is a concern for him when it comes to assessing his future.

Manchester United crashed to their worst start to a Premier League season since 1989 with a shock defeat against West Brom at Old Trafford.
Second half goals from Morgan Amalfitano and Saido Berahino either side of a sumptuous Wayne Rooney freekick condemned the defending champions to their second consecutive league loss.
The Red Devils started the brighter of the two and had the Baggies hemmed into their own half in the early exchanges, with Javier Hernandez and Nani looking threatening.
The latter almost created an opening midway through the first half after floating a cross in toward Rooney, who saw the ball drift past him out of play.
West Brom weren’t without their chances either, and were happy to operate on the counter attack for large swathes of the first half.
Stephane Sessegnon came the closest for the away side when he flashed a header across the...

Manchester United striker Robin van Persie will miss his side’s Capital One Cup third round tie after failing to recover from his groin injury.
The Dutchman missed the weekend’s 4-1 defeat at rivals Manchester City and manager David Moyes has confirmed that he will also miss tomorrow night’s match.
“I don’t think he will play on Wednesday. He will have an outside chance for Saturday” said Moyes.
It means that Van Persie may be back to face West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford at the weekend.
The 30-year-old has scored six goals this season from his six appearances including braces against both Wigan in the Community Shield and Swansea in the opening Premier League match of the season.
With Van Persie missing, Mexican international Javier Hernandez is expected to come into the side to make his first start of the season following just three substitute appearances so far.

Tottenham are plotting an audacious raid on Manchester United for Javier Hernandez, but have been told they must pay £15 milion, according to the Mirror.
The big spending Londoners have approached United about the 25-year-old, who has yet to play for the champions this season due to a thigh injury.
Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas knows he needs a new finisher and there are few better options than the Mexican, who enjoyed an excellent strike-rate last term despite making just 22 league appearances.
Villas-Boas could sell Jermain Defoe before the transfer deadline next Monday, with the England forward being chased by several clubs – one of them Qpr, whose manager Harry Redknapp wants to be reunited with the 30-year-old.
The White Hart Lane outfit have also been trying to offload Emmanuel Adebayor for much of the summer, with little success so far.
Hernandez would be a more than capable replacement for either of them...

The first game at Old Trafford of the 2013-14 season could hardly be a more tantalising one.
There have been managerial changes at both clubs over the Summer, but there is only one player that has dominated the column inches when it comes to these two sides; Wayne Rooney. The England striker came on as a 62nd minute substitute in the Red Devils’ 4-1 opening day victory against Swansea last weekend, and it remains to be seen if David Moyes will include him in his starting line-up later today.
Rafael is sidelined for up to a month with a hamstring injury, along with Nani (groin), Ashley Young (ankle) and Javier Hernandez (hamstring).
David Luiz is a doubt for the blues after picking up a hamstring problem, and Mourinho may opt to start Romelu Lukaku in attack.
